I'm going to shoot a follow up video. Does anyone have any questions? Maybe some issues you're having with this technique. Or other options.

In JJ its all about learning whats bad for his knee/leg/body. It's really just to make him lose balance and fall over. if you dont he will fall on top of you or just pull back.

Si funciona, lo he probado el hecho de abrazar la pierna desestabiliza mucho,eso si tomar la espalda es mas complicado en nogi pero se puede simplemente raspar

I honestly think that students should learn the No-Gi version of Berimbolo 1st, because it's easier to undestand, and if u can get this down, it'll be easier to start using it in a gi match.

Would after getting the sweep taking the top and side control be safer?
@Link00TMM5 жыл бұрын
I'd say the back would probably be safer considering it scores the most points of all positions in BJJ

bueno el berimbolo es verdad es una locura meterlo en el no gi pero te ayuda a saber q el siguiente movimiento del oponente

negao azul That day will never come for any of the major open guard sweeps in bjj because it is neutralized by strikes but that doesn't mean they aren't viable grappling techniques

Check out Marcin Held's fights. Bellator and I believe he pulls it off a few times. He always goes for the leglocks but I'm pretty sure he got some sweeps doing that technique, or at least a very similar one.
@P12ooF7 жыл бұрын
if you are playing delaheva correctly its possible. you might have to avoid an off balance punch or eat it but you are taking the back so well worth it.

Am a fan of the technique but seems to be a high risk low reward move but am sure if done with speed and fluidity can be practical and I say high risk because it takes 3 limbs to one limb to execute aggressive strikers would capitalize I'd say 7or 8 out of 10 times
@matu-cg4cw9 жыл бұрын
It's more a grappling competition move than anything else. Very common in BJJ competitions (mostly in the gi) but so far we've never seen in it MMA.
@77jiujitsu9 жыл бұрын
Can this be good for the street??
@Pric3less19 жыл бұрын
No. The reason why I say this is because berimbolo literally means "complicated/unorthodox", therefore it would not be practical. Let me tell you a little story about me real quick. I've been in martial arts for quite a few years now. I'm a Judoka, but I've also trained with a guy from Holland who taught me Dutch kickboxing which is a super technical style. I had gotten into a street fight about a year ago with a guy who was throwing wild and wide haymakers. Nothing that straight punches couldn't solve, but I was thinking too much. Instead, I was throwing all these crazy ass combinations and wheel kicks and spinning kicks, trying to show off in front of all my peers all because I heard someone yell in the background "WURLLLLLLL STARRRRRRRR!!!". The guy didn't go down, because of all the impractical stuff that I was throwing, trying to be fancy, when I should have just kept it basic. Because of that, the fight was a very unusual ten minutes, which is long as hell for a street fight when I could have ended it in twenty seconds. But nope, instead I was trying to be Jean Claude Van Damme. If you have ever watched the Gracie challenge, when they go around picking fights with other striking arts (but never any grappling arts) about how BJJ was superior to all in street fighting, Royce, Royler, Renzo, etc would always keep it basic. Sure they were black belts, but do you really need to know the ins and outs of De La Riva/X Guard/Spiral Guard/50-50/etc etc to utilize Jiu Jitsu to defend yourself? No. If you end up on your back, then a basic tripod sweep from open guard should do the trick, and when you've swept the guy, get up and run, or get on top and rain down punches. Depending on the nature of the fight. Watch the early Royce Gracie street fights before the first UFC. Royce would only use techniques that you learn as a white belt. Low single -----> Mount/Side Mount -----> Choke/Joint Lock. But if it makes you feel any better, I have pulled berimbolo off in my MMA class a few times. Took some punches, but still got the dudes back. But then again, MMA and the street are two different things.

Neville Allen II I seem to remember them (the Gracies) having a handful of fights with wrestlers during those Gracie challenge days, no? I could have sworn I've seen a video of it somewhere on here... Also, your story is much appreciated. I agree on all points.

everything works if the right person is doing it. everyone said 50/50 was crap and would not work outside of bjj competitions, now Ryan hall is making everyone in his division scared of it. if a rafa or gui mendes do that shit to the best grapplers on earth then they can surely do it to a random Joe if it opens up. Do normal people outside of bjj know what an xgaurd is? Tell me how anyone is gonna stop that shit if Marcelo wants to do it? Also you're missing the point of these techniques is that they work against trained people and they give you an amazing understanding of body mechanics. in training I'll do sweeps I've never drilled because my understanding of balance, body mechanics and reaction time are better than normal people. I've done spider guard in no-gi so if a guy is in a tank top, or a winter coat, I'm sure if I want to I could sweep or submit.
