No Green Screens in Final Cut Pro Ever Again?! +Auto Color Conform for SDR/HDR & Much More!

In this video we want to talk about Final Cut Pro recent feature additions. The new features in Final Cut Pro 10.6.6, including:
• Scene removal mask filter: This filter can automatically remove the background of a video clip without the need for a green screen.
• Color conform for SDR/HDR: This feature can automatically adjust the color of a video clip to look good in both SDR and HDR displays.
• New color presets: There are new color presets available in Final Cut Pro 10.6.6. These presets can be used to quickly get a good starting point for your color grading.
• ProRes RAW settings window: There is a new window for accessing ProRes RAW settings in Final Cut Pro 10.6.6. This window gives you more control over the raw settings for your ProRes RAW clips.
• Camera manufacturer-specific processing: You can now use camera manufacturer-specific processing for your ProRes RAW clips in Final Cut Pro 10.6.6. This processing is optimized for the specific camera you used to shoot the clip.
We also talk about a few other new features in Final Cut Pro for both iPad as well as Mac including:
• Live drawing tool: This tool can be used to draw on video clips with an Apple Pencil or your finger.
• Dynamic soundtracks: These soundtracks can automatically adjust to fit the length of your project.
• Other new mask and keying filters: There are new/improved mask and keying filters available in Final Cut Pro!

Wow this is sooo useful / helpful. I have Keyper and I started to become frustrated with the app - exactly same points you outlined. I am so glad to know there are far better options installed in FCP. Very educational video!

I second that emotion! Keyper is nice in some instances but frustrating in others especially trying to get the fringe fluttering of hair and other parts out! Didn't even know this new feature was in FCP! Thanks SO much an outstanding video!

Thanks, @@djduanestechtips! Yeah, Keyper definitely has its place, but when the footage adheres (enough 😉) to Apple's guidelines, then the SRM is definitely miles above Keyper side-by-side. As you can see. Just the fact that the SRM isn't limited to just humans is the killer feature for me.

This was super helpful. Thank you! I downloaded your plugin to fix up the edges when doing background removal. By the way... the name of this tool: SRM... what does that mean? Would have been amazing if they had included something like this in the Scene Removal Mask effect itself! Question 2: if I have a green screen... is it worth deploying every time I film, or maybe since the wall behind me is fairly static it'll be unnecessary to bother with a green screen. Thoughts?? Yeah I know I should probably just test it out. :)

SRM = Scene Removal Mask 😉 When and if you want to go with a green screen will entirely depend on the content/situation AND what you need the key/matte for. Just for isolating for color correction or cutting out and background replacement etc. etc.? As I show in the video, if you e.g. have any type of transparency you're definitely better off with a green screen. If not, you have good lighting and a static shot, the SRM could be the much easier, quicker, and sufficient solution. So yes… TEST. There's no one right answer.

Danke dir! Freut mich sehr! Wie ich bereits dem „BayernAxel” schrieb: Ich bleibe definitiv bei beiden Sprachen, ja. Die Dinger sind nur ultra-zeitaufwendig und ich wollte zumindest schon mal die E-Version raushaben. Ich habe die beiden Sprachen jetzt auch getrennt, wie es in der Beschreibung steht. Die deutsche Version wird also entsprechend im „D"-Kanal erscheinen, hoffentlich auch nach und nach mit Neuauflagen von den bisherigen deutschen Tutorials, die man (momentan nur) hier findet. Irgendwann nach meiner Reise nach Cupertino nächste Woche zum „FCP Global Summit”, wo ich unter anderem auch zeigen werde, wie ich alles gemacht habe ;) Also... stay tuned! (auf dem anderen Kanal 😄)

vielen Dank für den hervorragenden Vergleich. Bislang war für mich die Funktion in FCPX nicht nutzbar - ich habe nur Keyper verwendet. Das sehe ich nun ganz anders 😀👍

@@SelbstversorgerRigotti Nepp. Habe (noch) kein kompatibles iPad und… es interessiert mich ehrlich gesagt nicht. 😛 ABER… da die iPad version bedeutet, dass es schon am ersten Tag des _Vision Pro_ eine lauffähige Version geben wird (wenn nicht sogar gleich eine *_native_* version, was genial wäre!), werde ich spätestens dann was darüber machen. 😉

Hallo Robin, schön, wieder ein Video von dir zu sehen und zu hören! Die Szenen mit deinen "Doppelgängern" hast du ja perfekt hinbekommen! Das mit den HDR-Einstellungen bei meinen eigenen Titeln hat mich fast zum Wahnsinn getrieben, toll, dass du dafür jetzt Lösungsansätze präsentierst. Kommt das Video noch in Deutsch wie früher, oder bleibst du jetzt bei Englisch? Nochmals vielen Dank für deine Arbeit! Gruß Axel

@@postpros-e Der D-Kanal ist aboniert, ist ein klein wenig leichter für mich zu verstehen. Auf jeden Fall wünschen wir dir eine gute und erfolgreiche Reise nach Cupertino. Vielleicht kannst du ja mal dort anregen, dass noch die anderen Standard-Titel etc. von Apple auch für HDR angepaßt werden, würde etwas Arbeit ersparen. Good Luck!

@@bayernaxel Naja, es ist eher der Fall, dass die Drittanbieter ihre Hausaufgaben machen müssen und Updates herausgeben. Wie soll Apple das für sie übernehmen? 🤔

@@postpros-e Ja, mit den Drittanbietern hast du natürlich recht. Ich hatte nur mit verschiedenen Generatoren von Apple Probleme mit der Farbdarstellung, habe sie jetzt aber mit Motion umgestellt und nutze jetzt auch nur noch den HDR-Weißwert zu 95%, dann haut es wieder hin. 👍🏻

I don't know where your material is from. It all depends on what the camera OEM allows, not Final Cut Pro. You may or may not need a plugin. Thanks for watching!

leider bin ich in keiner Community und muss es auf diese Weise probieren.... Gibt es in FCPX keine Einstellung, wo mein Cursor, wenn er am ende des Bildschirm ist (rechts), wieder an die linke Seite springt und alles weiter läuft?? Wenn ich mein Projekt durchschauen will muss ich immer "scrollen". Ich suche eine Einstellung wie z.Bsp. in Logic, da gehts doch auch so?!

Du meinst eine automatisch *_scrollende Timeline_* . Nein. *_Noch_* nicht. Kommt mit der nächsten version. 😉 Wobei ich es persönlich bei einer VIDEO Timeline ziemlich nervig finde und es mir noch nie gewünscht habe. Werde ich auch gar nicht erst einschalten.
