In this video I show you how to make a Silver ring using sterling silver from scraps. This shows you how you can make a really cost effective sterling silver ring. The process starts with creating a silver wire by melting silver scraps. The wire is then rolled to the correct length and diameter. While rolling the silver, we make sure it ends up with a domed profile. The ring is then hammered around a rod to get the round shape before being soldered together. After this our last step is to just finish it with our

Just a bit of advice- if light comes through the seem, the gap is to wide. Solder is meant to bind the ends not to be a filler. Also, wrap the sandpaper around an old paint stick or ruler (grit facing out). It gives better consistency and crisper edges on the outside. Wrap the sandpaper around the mandrel to do the inside.
@jtjacky
@jtjacky 4 жыл бұрын
as a build up on this tip you can get the ends to line up easier with the saw, just anneal the piece close up de gap as much as possible and run the saw trough it

No, black is the last colour. You can get some interesting patina colours to develop like blue, blue-green, brown, yellow, orangish by heating the metal up slightly and brushing on the solution in thin layers. The hotter the ring when it's applied the faster and darker the patina will be. Gently warming it better controls the colour

Can i use a Ceramic bowl as an alternative for crucible?
@kyle88740
@kyle88740 4 жыл бұрын
No. They're made of a special refractory ceramic. Get a melting dish and handle and some dried flux. The melting dish has to be prepared first, which isn't hard to do. Heat up the dish till it's red hot at the bottom, sprinkle in some dry flux and continue heating. The flux will absorb into the pores creating a glassy surface. If it looks mottled then there's not enough flux. Add a bit more and tip the dish in different directions to let the flux spread all over. When you have a glassy surface all over the inside and the spout then you can melt the scrap.
