We got one of the last second generation TrailBlazer front brush hogs and paid the extra for their PTO driven pump in the back. It is expensive, but you can keep the mower running while making the adjustments as you mow. When we had our Kubota in for its 50-hour maintenance, I ha s the mechanics do an evaluation of the mower. They thought it was a superior design when compared to the Lane Shark. Plus, they also brought to my attention that there were plates on each side of the back of the mower to install guage wheels. Unfortunately, TrailBlazer stopped making their mower because they could not overcome a patent infringement case brought about by Lane Shark. Even with the design changes on their second generation, it still had problems, so the company decided to give up. Too bad, because I really like the constant flow of just under 12 gpm from the power pack. It also gives you 400 pounds of ballast in the back with that power pack. I also had a neighbor weld together a weight rack that I put on there so I could put 550 pounds of GWT suitcase weights when we are moving around round hay bales. The setup works well for our needs. Maybe someday , we will figure out how to use the power pack in order to use a hydraulic auger.

I have one of these from from this company. The owner is great and will answer any questions. I talked to w l long who makes my third function and they recommended a by pass on the return to help on the heat and preventing the motor from stopping to quickly. It was a quick and easy mod, but I can easily cut 2 inch and love it for cutting in woods and trimming up trees and along ponds

There may be a market for a 3 foot front mount brush hog for getting in the tight spots and overhangs. It could even be gas driven for ease of hook up and use. I saw a guy who mounted a regular mower on to his forklift forks. Worked great. Brush hogging and then manual mowing or weed eating the tight spots and overhangs can be a big time killer on larger wooded properties. Would love a front end mowing solution while brush hogging. Gas engine powered would be way easier to connect and use. I think it makes more sense as a hard to cut solution and not a true brush hog replacement. The two together would be a good combo.

I realize the front mounted hydraulic operated mower may not be the most efficient when compared to a PTO driven pull behind. However, in the situation like mine, this would be awesome. I have an old Ford 4500 industrial tractor and it is designed with a front loader, and to have a rear backhoe however, I do not have the back of attachment.my hydraulic pump would be more than sufficient, and I could use those auxiliary ports that ran the backhoe to run a front mounted hydraulic. My tractor does not have a PTO so a three-point mounted PTO driven implement isn’t even an option for me.

It actually works very well. With over a year of use on mine, I am very impressed. Just wish the video would have gone more in depth with the hydraulic system needs. I have cut in many trails and cleared away a ton of invasive species throughout the property. I am running the 4 ft unit from king manufacturing just like the video. My 30 hp diesel compact tractor supplies the hydraulic motor with enough fluid to operate pretty well. I also have mine running from the rear remotes going forward to the loader. The control valve can actuated on for full time fluid movement. As talked about in the video though, you will hear the difference when using other hydraulic systems at the same time. The biggest issue, hydraulic system related, is the return. This cannot be routed back through the normal system. It uses a sump return line that flows direct to the sump. Without this return line, most tractor valves block fluid movement on both pressure and return, the mower would instantly lock up instead of spooling down when turned off. Imagine the damage that could be done. My bobcat brand tractor did not have an option for that sump return and i had to develop my own fittings and lines. There was also mention if the hydraulic fluid temps... yes you will see an increase of those temps but it was not enough to concern me in the bigger picture.

I run a 5' version on a 100hp Kubota. It gets HOT very quickly. I try to keep my usage in short bursts of less than a minute. I would not consider it as a main mower. It works for my needs because I'm just using it to get into the tight spots I can't hit with my 15' flex wing pto cutter.

It’s a pretty decent option. As long as people understand it’s not a mower and really just a brush hog. If you have trails like you have here or blazed here, this thing works. If you are going to keep those trails clear, this will be nice for operator comfort and flexibility. You can cut branches and create a tunnel even if the growth is dense & tall enough. It may take some patience, but it will do it. I agree a 3 series is much more likely to run this 4 ft model better, but unfortunately, due to the increase in size, you may want a 5 ft model if you have the 3 series!! 😂😂. There’s always a give & take,,,,, haha. Running the 5 ft model may be an issue with the 3 series. I kinda doubt it, but who knows until they compare them somewhere. Thanks for showing this option to us!

The front mount models seem to be a lot better thought out than the 3 point for thorns and brush, not a fan of driving through the brush before you cut it especially with turf tires. Asked this about the Rimguard ballast before but never did get a reply.. would it be worth putting rimguard in the small 10 inch skid steer tires or are they just too small for it to have any noticeable effect? I've already got wheel spacers on it with grousers and a full weight kit.

Why doesn't someone make a mower that attaches to this? The mid-PTO already used to power the belly mower. Couldn't they design it so the mower cannot be raised to the point it would interfer with the PTO connection?

How hot did your hydro fluid get while using this? Does it have a dump valve in case it binds up or hits something it can’t get through? I just think without a high flow converter, you’ll end up frying all the o rings on your fittings and create havoc on the hydro system.

In watching the video I notice that you had to cover over the tall grass twice to cut it. The first time over it pushed the grass down, the second time over it cut it. It would take a long time to cut a large field. The suggestion to have some type of pro hookup to an auxiliary hydraulic pump would be the ticket and then you could run any number of front mounted units for different jobs just like a skid steer. But then comes along the expense and auxiliary pumps are not cheap. My tractor gives you 8.5 gpm and as such I couldn't put a wider unit on than that 4 footer.

I have a brush hog on my skid steer. It is a challenge to get an even cut. It excels at jobs where the weeds or brush are very tall and a frontal attack beats a pull behind approach. Pull behind mowers have the disadvantage of trying to cut stuff the tires have driven over and laid down. This mower on a tractor should be less tippy than the skid steer but I would not want to do open field mowing with it. Oh yeah... and the operator eats all the dust, dirt, and pollen kicked up in front you. A good mower but it should not be your only mower if you have acreage to cut. On the question of gauge wheels. Front wheels would only work if the loader was in float mode... but I think that would produce enough weight to force the wheels into the dirt. Ideally it would need a hinge at the mount to utilize gauge wheels like some machines that are out there.

I tnink it will get a lot of people hurt especially when used lifted on an open station tractor or a cab without ballistic glass. Then there is the turn aspect with people not weighting the tractor properly. Everybody thinks that they can get away with using just one time without weighting properly.

I think for a small tractor, a gasoline engine powering the mower deck would be a better idea.

Ventrac's whole business model is putting the implement in front so you're not continually looking over your shoulder, which is ridiculous. The frontmount should float as well or just buy a Ventrac to begin with.

I think if you're in the market for this, just get a zero turn. It seemed slow, cumbersome with an uneven cut.

I can think of alternatives, but a zero turn would not make that list.

Not being a safety Sally, but you showed 2 quick positions which really put you as the operator at risk. When you angled the front of that down, it could have EASILY thrown something back at you. Some people really don’t take advantage of PPE before using power equipment and that is where accidents happen. I just saw one yesterday a lady was weed whacking in shorts with no eye or ear protection on and squinting, turning her head sideways to avoid getting debris. This machine has potential, but just as the right tool for the right job. Appreciate how you give pros/cons

What timestamp? I don't recall doing that at all as that would be asking to get whacked in the face. I may look like an idiot, but I promise you I value my life :) I'm guessing it was merely the angle in the video that wasn't the same as the operator view. Also, my glasses are safety glasses and I was wearing hearing protection.

Didn’t mean to imply YOU were unsafe! But 2 spots to look at from my viewing angle could be seen as “potentially” dangerous. 8:22 and 11:35 - the first threw some stuff behind the mower (probably low potential) and the second when you had the mower high it was sort of angled forwards…this was the greater hazard (unless blade wasn’t moving). I’m not a critic, but as someone who has had a few injuries when things “look” safe just pointing out a cautionary POV.

Someone else is recording those close-up shots with a drone from afar. If that's what you're wondering. I don't believe he's that stupid.

I would like to find a hydraulic sicker bar that can be mounted off from the loader so to be able to keep hedges and stuff trimmed along driveway trails and fence lines. But it got to be able to be run off from a compact tractor like 20 - 25 hp

@@GoodWorksTractors There is one out there its 38- in cutter that only requires 3 to 4.5 gal/min. hydraulic flow and can be adjusted to cut vertically, horizontally, or at any angle in between A hydraulic motor powers an oscillating cam connecting two cutting blades. Varying the hydraulic flow using the engine throttle changes the speed of the blades. 2 inch opposing sickle sections allow the cutter to cut material up to 1 1/2″ inches in diameter. I just doing some research on it now.

It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I absolutely love my 6 foot brush cutter when I am maintaining our atv trails. But it can be painful trying to cut in new trails through a ton of sticker bushes. This has allowed me to do so much easier and safer. But I will also agree that it has a rather niche market.
