I mean he never said that. He said streaming comes before professional chess. He still plays in the highest chess tournaments but he doesn't take them anywhere as serious as he could be or should be. He does it because he enjoys them but his job is a streamer not a professional chess player.

I’m 1400 and I also 😢😂 lol never dedicated as much time to chess as other things. I enjoy watching a good game, but it’s not life for me and I doubt it is for you either. I know I’d disrespect Hikaru in a 100m sprint/arguably all other competitive sports for example, so I’m not too hurt that he’d destroy me at chess.

The rooks weren't really blundered, Hikaru forgot that the enemy's queen was hanging and thus he was safe. A queen is worth more than a rook.

Ideas for next episodes 1. As of your first eight moves put all the pawns on the 4th rank (5th as black) 2. Go for scholar’s mate at 2k+ rating 3. As of your first 4 moves bring the king to d4 (f5 as black) Also blunder on purpose Type sh*t in chat

1100 is more like top 80% or something, nothing special....

USCF says top 57%, being generous, maybe the top half of players. I'd say an 1100 is just getting into intermediate, starting to get serious and studying. Down this path, now they care about their rating, which is bad because it goes up and down a lot even at fairly high levels. It's not fun to think about because you want to feel you are getting better, but this is where the game starts to get very deep and complex. You have advanced tactics, gambits, exchange sacrifices, etc. It takes even talented players time to improve, it's a large amount of information to internalize.

I tried starting trouble on the a and h files right away over the last few days in almost all my games. You would be surprised just how many people no matter what thier rating is allow thier bishops to get stuck. I’ve learned so much from Hikaru 😀

Is it still disrespect if the players don't understand that it's disrespectful? At 1100 they aren't going to point at their screen and say "why that's not the main line! I am being disrespected!" All the 1100s make random ass moves in the opening all day against eachother, these just seem like normal games to them.

how is he taking 2 moves with the queen at 2:43? what am i missing? is there a rule that you can take another move after a check if that move breaks the check? (i'm a chess noob) ok now i saw that this was just a pre planned move that executes later.

He’s premoving (committing to making the second move before the opponent responds). In that situation, opponent can’t stop him from taking the bishop (the king is forked).
