Hi everyone, Eileen here. Let's explore how to build and maintain a clutter free wardrobe! Many minimalists will tell you, the biggest perk of minimalism is having less clutter. I for one, have done some serious decluttering. However, having a clean wardrobe shouldn't really just centre around decluttering. Buying 10 things to throw out 9 is never sustainable after all. When building my wardrobe from scratch I learned to stick to certain coordinating colors & buy shoes & accessories that will match within that color scheme! As these items are worn, some will need to be replaced sooner than others, but when I do replace them, I have a Rule that I will either donate or drop off at my Resale Boutique, at least two pieces for the one I purchase! This helps me to slowly continue to downsize, as well as, allow me to purchase better quality, more updated & better fitting Items, that suit my Lifestyle, at the time! I'm 72 & this system has worked for me for years & years!

For me, it helps to ask myself “what will happen to this item in 6 months time”? “Will the wear and tear bothers me so much I will need to get rid of it in 6 months”? “Will this item make my outfit look so incongruous that I want to get rid of it next year”? “Will it be junk in 6 months time”? I feel that if we don’t have a myopic view of every of our purchase, we will really resolve a lot of our impulsive and mindless spendings.❤

When buying Handbags, I learned to check that certain things that I carry in my Handbags actually fit in my New Purchase! A few years ago I purchased a Clutch to use for Evening, especially when we travel! It was Small, didn't weigh alot & was a Simple Elegant Style, I knew I wouldn't need a bag that could carry Everything I usually carry, but I needed one that could carry my Hotel Key, Credit Card Holder, Lipstick Compact Mirror & my Cell Phone! All flat items & not Bulky, Right? One BIG Problem, I didn't realize until we're ready to go downstairs to the Hotel Dining Room that my PHONE would not fit!! It's little things like that, that taught me to Consider each purchase better! Just as you would check to see if a Garment Fit, you need to check if your purchase will fit your needs! I Love Your Channel, Eileen! I look forward to each one! You discuss things in a Practical way & makes sense & causes one to think about the way they are doing things as well! I'm loving your minimalism wardrobe/collection videos, it's really refreshing! Ever since I switched careers & have to wear a uniform basically.. I noticed more often than not I usually walk away from an item even though I really like it. After, if I think about it long enough (at least a month) and can't get it off my mind then that is only when I will actually go ahead and purchase. I think that helps me a lot with buyers remorse! Also when shopping online, I like to put stuff in "loves/favorites/save for later/etc" and then revisiting them another time and see if I still like them enough to pull the trigger.

I agreed. I do all that when I decided to make a purchase always look how to care for the items and if I have something similar already. To save myself having to spend money. I always try to find ways to mix and match.

I found your wonderful channel awhile back when I became genuinely tired of the superfluous unboxing channels. I love quality but I no longer need excessive quantity. Thanks for the olive oil tip. Hell to the no on re labelled tshirts. As my grandma said. Labels are to be worn, for the most part, on the inside of your clothing. Agreed re costume jewellery.

Great video, Eileen. Agree with all your tips ! I am most concerned where, when and how often will I wear an item. Sometimes I have left tags on for months. When I realize I will not need the item, I go get my refund !!

How do you clean your shoes? I dont like bringing in shoes in the house specially in the carperted area

We usually never wear shoes in the house 😇 I did wear shoes in this video because we were due to change the carpet to laminate the next day 🙈 My plan is to use a rug when filming outfit videos in the future, but I also routinely wipe my shoes before storing xx

❤ Such great timing to your words. I had such a productive conversation with my husband today as we need to create a more functional home. He decided he doesn’t want to keep our television and I am so happy. I never turn it on and only watch things on my tablet. The same is true for other areas of our tiny home. We are going to clear out a utility closet and make way for a plan to create a laundry area and eventually remodel our closet so we can both share it. All of these things will help in our minimalist journey as a family. Also, I will be able to see a lot of my clothing/shoes/bags if they are displayed well in the closet. Our current closet inserts just aren’t working well. It’s like living in a space but not feeling like it’s quite home yet. 😊❤🧣🧥🥿🧢.

That’s so refreshing to hear! I talked to my husband about removing the TV in the living at one point but we decided to keep it because I’ve started doing yoga and it’s helpful to have a bigger screen than my phone 😊

These can ba washed in the washing machine, wool program . Or by hand.

I wash my Hermes scarves by hand with mild shampoo an lukewarm water, one minute. Then I rinse it in the bath and roll it in a clean towel very tight to temove extra water. I hang it to dry and iron when it is a bit humid. Eccessive dry cleaning damages clothes, try to air them outside first.
