I love my vintage pieces, but I was ready to move beyond gray and white everywhere. Learn how I made my own rules and created a room that reflects my personal aesthetic while drawing on my family heritage.

I agree with every word she said!! I worked in a resale store and couldn’t believe the items which had to be family heirlooms that other people donated, either not knowing their real value or not caring about it!!! I now incorporate those type of items in my decorating. I don’t rely on what others say are “in style”

Finally someone that has the same style as me. I like what I like. Not what some decorater says is on trend. I love things that remind me of old family members and olden days. I mix whatever I want. Anyway my home is for me. I have told my 3 grown children not to keep my things when I am gone, because I have enjoyed them and they have their own style. Thanks for your channel❤

Yours is my new favourite KZfaq channel. I so like to see a house filled with treasures that tell a story. My home is similar, although with a mostly blue colour scheme. I find modern decor to be so ho hum. All the home decorating magazines show endless white and grey, subway tiles, zero collections or focal points, minimalism. While it is slick and clean looking, it is so lacking in character, at times almost sterile. I much prefer your home and mine, that are cozy, welcoming, full of interest and most of all, give love.
@stonecottageadventures3042 жыл бұрын
Aww. That is so sweet of you to say. I have a pretty extensive colllection of blue and white china and am thinking of incorporating more of it.
@maryoleary20372 жыл бұрын
@@stonecottageadventures304 I also have a huge collection of blue and white china and use it in several rooms. My good dishes are Royal Crowne Derby's Blue Mikado. My every day dishes are Blue Nordic. As I'm not into minimalism, I'm also not into all white dinnerware. I'm currently redecorating the guest room. It will have very soft yellow walls, with white painted furniture and then plenty of blue and white touches.

Well said! Your home should wrap you in a cozy feel. Your room is like a friend of mine's. I feel at home there, surrounded by her things, some from family but many thrifted pieces as well. I let others influence my decisions and my space doesn't feel like my home, yet. My style will evolve and l will return to some styles that l used before and loved. Thanks for reaffirming how your space should feel, to you.🤗🇨🇦

Your very lucky to have inherited such wonderful furniture, paintings, silver, and memories. Cherish them forever and talk about them every chance you get when the children visit. I love them all! I wasn’t given anything from grandparents or even parents really. Instead for years when I lived in Michigan I would go to estate sales. Oh how I loved those sales. I found so many unique items and I love them greatly. They are displayed proudly in my home now. Unfortunately we’ve moved to Indy and they don’t have very many estate sales here instead they are on line sales which I don’t do. Thank you for the video and hope you have a pleasant night.

I always knew I was not on trend, and I love that. I feel if you surround yourself with things you love and have an attachment to, it always works . Its a curated, collected over time that most homes don't have. I know my home doesn't feel like anyone else I know. And thats why I love it even more. It is totally me, and evokes a feeling that is in my heart and my mind.

I love to hear your stories. I don't follow the trends either. I have several of my great grandmother and both my grandmother's pieces of furniture. My daughter doesn't want any of them . I gave her a mahogany bed that belonged to my grandmother. Her husband took it apart and made a hat rack out of it. I guess everything will go to strangers who will hopefully appreciate it when I'm gone. You have a lovely home.Thanks for sharing/

Thank you, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! for debunking the current decorating "rules" that create gray, bland interchangeable rooms that have no history or character! Although I have few "inherits" from my family as you are lucky to have, I've created a home from antique store finds and thrifts that always cause visitors to tell me how beautiful my home is. My husband and I love it. The key is to be selective about adding only what you love and what makes you feel good, ignoring current trends unless that is what works for you. Kudos on your beautiful "home"! By the way, your good advice in this video is what prompted me to subscribe to your channel.

My home is full of family items also. I see beautiful vintage china from Lenox, Royal Doulton for sale in antique malls for a fraction of what they once cost. The millennials eschew the lovely antiques handed down in their families and the items end up on ebay or thrift stores. I have seen entire sets of china for sale in Goodwill. Surely, some day there will be a turning back to appreciating beautiful things with a story.

What is lovely about your home is that it is refreshingly not the typical cookie cutter style found on most channels. You know the ones - all decor from Hobby Lobby, Homegoods, and Amazon. I refuse to buy massed produced items from China instead thrifting fine dishes, silver pieces, art, etc to make my home one where it looks curated over time not pulled out of a showroom of matchy matchy pieces. It is interesting to observe people when they come over drinking it all in. Maybe they like it. Maybe they don't but to me, my home is a cozy warm inviting space much like yours is, too.

It would be interesting to see what your bedrooms look like and also where things come from and their history in them, and also if you have a office area does your style of decorating carry throughout the entire house or is it limited only to Maine spaces?

I kind of think your style IS trending, thinking of dark academia and granny chic styles, and it is lovely. No family heirloom furniture in my possession, no lovely china, silver or art. I never knew it but I think my parents were poor. My husband’s family was the same.
@stonecottageadventures304 Жыл бұрын
I watched a home tour once where the wife's family was poor and the husband's family was affluent. Her family kept all their "old, out-of-date" furniture, while his family threw out the old stuff and bought all the latest styles. It turned out that the real treasures came from her family! I frequently see things we always thought were really valuable and realize they can be had for not that much money. The treasure is mostly the memories.
