No More Wires! Cheap & Easy Cable Tray Management Trick | My Modern Minimalist Office Setup Pt 1

Whenever we try to create the perfect office desk setup, we're always hindered by messy cables somewhere along the way. My unique situation requires my wires to be hidden away in plain sight. With my desk facing towards the room, without a wall to lean up against, wires are completely exposed. I need to hide them in a different way.

Totally agree I prefer my desk facing inside the room vs the wall. When I was redoing my office last year it was really difficult finding home offices like that on KZfaq for inspiration. Even on reddit it was difficult to find home offices with large monitors not facing the wall. I don't understand why everyone sets up their desks to face the wall.

Thanks. I think for me, I have a little nook opening that just fits the desk. Otherwise, I think most rooms might be a bit small to face outwards.

Some people moaning about the guy drilling a hole into his expensive table top and mousepad.. well, if it suits and looks good for him, so be it! I found it very inspirational indeed and I also prefer my setup facing towards the room rather than the wall, and although I doubt I would bother to go for the same implementation as yes it's a bit cumbersome for just few wires, I found it very neat and nice looking. The end of the day everyone does what makes them feel better about their own space! Nice job.

4:00 You can Iron it the Desk pad with a wet towel in between. I have the same desk pad and eliminate all the curls because you can still see curls below that desk pad. Is a easy hack fix for people with large pads

Be careful with too wide aperture. For exemple, f1.4 does look great but sometimes for shots like 2:30 , we cant see what you are doing. Its small detail but it could help for future shots

I liked it. To hide the wires in the desk at the headquarters of the Carter Organization the "best marble men in New York" made a hole in the marble desk. The Carter Organization offices were featured as Gordon Gekko's offices in the movie "Wall Street". Ivan Boesky had a rheostat to control the volume from his trading floor right in the middle of his desk which was also marble. In the eighties a lot of cabinetry (desks) work was done on Sunday where the union carpenters received triple time.

@@alexvilain3160 We installed a big market data computer in an office on the second floor of the Carlyle Hotel, (5700 BTU big). NYC building/fire/electrical code requires that all power and signal cable be terminated on 3/4 inch fire rated plywood---this is in the '80's. When the customer found out that there would be exposed plywood in their office they were aghast. They thought quickly: "Is it alright to put wallpaper on the plywood?" "Sure." We installed the communications equipment and cut the cables to length on purple wallpaper with yellow fleur-de-lis'. Once mounted the wires did not move. If you can visualize an othogonal tree of life you can get the picture. Very classy.

I plan to redo my office for outer facing desk as well. Question, what do I do about the power cord going to wall outlet?
@DNChromatic
@DNChromatic 3 жыл бұрын
Depends how close to the wall. This is a small office so It’s close enough I can run an extension along the ground and use cable covers. There was a suggestion to hire someone to do a floor receptacle but that might be too much. 🤔
