Hi, I'm Polarity and do music at home in my small bedroom studio. I record regularly sessions and publish them here. You can change the pad type - kick, snare, clap etc by dragging a different type of sample onto that pad.

I wish that Atlas could have different drum scenes (a pattern that you can drag into the project then another tab with a different pattern that you can drag in, and have multiple of these). You can do that in Geist and it's great. However, I love the easy access to my samples in Atlas. Geist is essentially abandoned as far as development, so it would be awesome if Atlas could take the helm.

Actually, you can change what classification the pads are initially set to. You just have to click on the pad and then go click on the gear in the top left corner.

Sugarbytes Drumcomputer and NI Polyplex are two drum vsts that offer randomization of sounds in some form.

No reaper has a script that adds a drum rack like script and it has a new kit button that's changes all the pad sounds based on databases created by the user. It's not nearly as full feature as atlas. But it's pretty awesome. Your tutorial was awesome btw!

I had seen this VST when I was deciding on XO or something different. Atlas is a cool looking VST and the randomizing is a good way to get inspired sometimes.

To lock or unlock rapidly : you can select all pads with shift, then press lock or unlock.

Once you drag in a sample to a pad, the pad gets the category of the sample assigned. There is no way to directly change the category except for using a sample of a certain category. Its a bit of pita but you can in fact make a 4x4 drumpad of say only hi hats or anything else. When you randomly select a new sample for a certain pad, the newly assigned category will be respected.

Hey! Thanks for this video. Had to check this VST myself instantly ;) I just found out that the pads are not "restricted" or connected to their "category" or group... for example, if you want to use an "other"-sample on a "tom"-pad, select the "tom"-pad, then choose an "other"-sample in the browser and right-click... this assigns the chosen "other"-sample to the "tom"-pad... then you can of course click the "reload"-icon, to get another random sample. works for other pads as well.

Hey Polarity, if you still use Atlas two would you perhaps want to make a refresh of this video on what is new and added with the new .1/2/3 versions? Ps. Do you still use this vst and if not, what sequencers do you use and why? :)

The ADSR Smaple Manager has a randomize button. If you type snare or kick or pick any of the key words it randomizes based on the search bar or key words.

xo can randomly change sounds (but only out of a randomized pool of 16 sounds), but it cant create kits from scratch. there are also no polyrhythms or sequence generation. also you are limited to 8 sounds in xo and theres no set classification for pads.

Yes, that is where Atlas excels but XO is by far more powerful. If I had to choose between the two, XO is much more versatile and has a better workflow. Atlas has the pad template on screen within the plugin and robust sequencer. That is where it may attract people...but, with XO, you could just use the DAW as an extension for the drum matrix. I do like Atlas for that feature but...yea, I'd still go with XO. Honestly, if you have the money, just but them both. You'll eventually favor one over the other. Good review. Thanks!

i have XO for free as a Bitwig User gift. I think its cool and has its space, but now Im going to pay for Atlas, as it is better suited for many usecases imho. Both are cool. But I find XOs sequencer UI not very intuitve.

DIdn't the drumcomputer in reason had the ability to load random sounds. It has been a long while for me so I don't remember it well.

I didn't think anything in Reason picked random samples. I could be wrong. It does have a drum editor that can create some poly rhythms though and random midi generation

Loopcloud Drum has a similar randomise option, but only for the samples in their own set, I think, not for the ones you have on hard disk.

not that i know of, only one sample per pad. but can increase the pad count.

Love XO Browser and Pattern Generators, but it lacks so many basic functions like Nudge per step, unusable for me. Its 2023, all drum perc sequencers should have nudging in ms and probability as standard

Ni Battery is similar. Transfuser 2 by AIR Music Technology is very good to.

How is NI Battery similar ? How do you replace samples fast in Battery ? How do you find similar samples ? It does not have a sequencer built in at all.
