Whew, I gotta say I was nervous but wouldn’t have tried it without this video. Can’t believe how easy it was and I almost dropped $200 for a scanner to do the same thing. No problems, no codes after, everything works fine. Thanks for the video brother!

But you trick for EPB was the life hack I needed my scanner wouldn't access the EPB so I was stuck until you...such an easy fix after that 20 mins done down the road. Thanks! Tiguan 2018 with electric break. Didn't know how to replace without scanner but today, I just replaced break pads and rotors - Thanks for saving me money and one less trip to dealer - I have broke one lug, half part inside the rotor, I will take a look next weekend. I used torque, not sure what happened.

Worked perfectly. Taking the EPB off was easy as pie. I tried unplugging the electrical connection, but that was a PITA and felt like I was going to break it. Thanks for this video, saved me tons of money.

Glad I found this video, exactly what I need to do my rear brakes without scan tool. Just a lil added info, size 9mm 12 point socket for the gear on the epb motor. Still waiting on my rotors to finish the job. Video didn’t show start up after brake job to see if vehicle throws an error code since I know vw tends to be sensitive with anything electrical. Guess I’ll find out later and post an update.

Very good clear video thanks. I had an old peugoet / citroen where is was vital to use foot brake to resettle the rear pistons before activating the park brake, it was a diffrent set up so perhaps with VW it doesn't matter? The park brake mechanism was inside the caliper - absolute nightmare when you're self taught. Thanks again

Hi from Scotland but small recommendation use a 9 volt battery to rewind electric brake if you reverse the battery it goes either way real easy

You can also use a brake compressor that turns as it goes in. I did that and didn't have to remove the motor.

Is this for only one side of the rear breaks or both sides? Should you replace the gaskets when you open the emergency break part?

When you screw the shaft in to allow the piston to be pressed back in, do you have to wind it back out so that it’s back in its original position for when the motor is re-coupled?

No. The car will know that it is out of position and will readjust.

Yup. Just cycled the switch in the cabin once or twice and it resets itself.

I noticed you were able to simply push the piston back in with a simple c clamp. Does it not require you to use the special tool to twist whilst pushing, like most VW's do?

On the EPB units the main piston will push back with a clamp only after you twist the EPB piston back

U don't need to take top bolt out, just bottom the flick the caliper up off the disk and the top pin slides out.

I did mine yesterday. The 2020 Escape is almost exactly the same..calipers, motor, bolt sizes. I used either 8 or 9mm regular socket on the caliper stud. The only thing I did different was open the bleeders when compressing. I unpugged the motor on the first side and a parking fault appeared on the dash, but went away once plugged back in. I didnt unplug the second side and had no issues. I watched a lot of videos on this and found yours to be the best, thank you!

There was still a lot of meat on these brake pads . Wear limit is as low as 2 mm of friction layer left on pad. Nice job, though.

How did you reset the EPB after the brake pad replacement ? Don't you end up with a fault or flashing light on the dashboard?

No. I just reset the parking brake when I was done and it reset it's position

Not sure what size torx I used. It was one of the ones that I had in a set in the toolbox. A set of torx is a whole lot less expensive than a scanner... Hope this helps.
