Frustrated that your duvet insert won't stay in place? You won't believe how simple it is to keep it from moving around inside the cover. No ties, tabs, buttons or snaps needed!

Thanks for the great tip! I was already to sew on tabs and ties to keep my comforter from shifting inside the duvet cover. Just did it and will check back in a few months to report.

I'm confused. Shouldn't the duvet cover be pinned inside out to the blanket? I think the use of "cover" to describe the duvet and blanket are mixing me up. If you can help me to understand, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

If you pin into the seam allowance as shown you won’t rip the cover :) The corners take less stress than you’d expect once it’s attached!

Thnx for the tips. Can you make a video about how to prevent bunching of fitted sheets ; fitted sheets shift around and becomes undone esp. with a mattress protector underneath.
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare8 ай бұрын
The only thing I can think of is to put a sew-on alligator clip on the ends of some elastic and attach it under the mattress. Should work!

Do the safety pins cause little tears in your duvet insert after awhile? My down insert was $$$ so I’m scared to rip it and end up with feathers coming out
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare2 жыл бұрын
I’ve never had a problem with that happening and I’ve had the same duvet for many years. The fabric used is usually really tightly woven and strong to keep the feathers from poking out. If you feel that the fabric is starting to weaken you can put the pins in a slightly different spot on the corner, but it should be fine.
@Gen20262 жыл бұрын
@@ASquarePillowIsntSquare You are actually pinning in the seam allowance of the insert and the cover? Correct? ever had a need to pin on the sides? I have limited frustrating experience with duvet covers - but I currently have one on order and had considered adding additional loops for ties along the sides and bottoms instead of just corners - but perhaps I can use this method and not get so frustrated! Just wondered if you had ever pinned the middle of sides and bottom as well? or if there is no need.................. thanks for a great tutorial! I am a new subscriber after finding your video on floppy shams.

Honestly never had a problem. The fabric on my cover is very tightly woven to keep the feathers in, so it’s very strong.

OMG - why have I never thought of this! I've been using ties, which haven't worked well. I think I will need to try this!! Thank you for the tip! Do you usually use a surged seam in a duvet cover? I will be making one soon and was thinking of using French seams. The fabric is thin cotton lawn.
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare2 жыл бұрын
I do usually serge because it’s a quick and easy way to keep the fabric from fraying from all the laundering, but French seams would also work!

Hello Melinda, how are you doing?

I couldn’t understand the part where the 2 farthest corners were pulled together and what exactly was done with the pins. I really want to try this. Can we please have a clearer video on the steps.
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare Жыл бұрын
You basically just lay the duvet on top of the cover with the cover inside out. Pin the corner of the duvet to the corner of the cover on all 4 corners. Reach inside to grab the farthest corners and turn it right side out! Nothing is done to the pins once they are in place :)
@snehali7 Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for your quick reply and help. Much appreciated.

@@ASquarePillowIsntSquareDo you mean the duvet gets turned inside out? The blanket (cover) likely is one solid piece that can't be turned inside out. Is that right,?
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare6 ай бұрын
@@faithe54 The cover gets turned inside out. Lay it out flat, inside out. Lay the blanket or duvet insert on top of it. Pin the corners. Reach inside the cover, grab the farthest top corners, making sure you hold all the layers, and pull it right side out.

Mine have never popped open because they just move with the fabric. There's really not a lot of pressure on them.

Nope
@kay9156 Жыл бұрын
Can't the safety pins damage the material?
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare Жыл бұрын
No more than any pin or needle, so no, it’s very unlikely. Also being pinned through the seam allowance and not the face fabric means extra strength and nothing visible on the cover.
@faithe546 ай бұрын
@@ASquarePillowIsntSquare To wash the cover should you undo all the pins? Or can you wash the cover and blanket as one unit? Thanks.
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare6 ай бұрын
@@faithe54 I always take off the cover and wash it. The cover keeps the blanket or duvet clean, so I don't normally wash the insert. If you do, I would take the cover off and wash them separately.

Im just worried that the saftey pins could possibly unlatch from themselves and get lost inside the bedding, that would be a terrible way to wake up 😅
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare Жыл бұрын
If you use the right size safety pins the risk is almost non-existent. It has never ever happened to me where one unlatched. Once the cover is on the stress on the corners is minimum.
@Up-To-Speed5 ай бұрын
Not safe... these suckers can open up if you're the type of person that moves around a lot!
@ASquarePillowIsntSquare5 ай бұрын
Well, I will say that the corners do not take a lot of stress, and I've never had a pin come undone in decades of using this method. Even if a safety pin were to open, it wouldn't release from both layers, but you certainly shouldn't use this method if you think it is unsafe.
