I've been crocheting for decades. I love Grannies & think this is a great shortcut technique I need to remember. Ty for sharing. I agree with you, this actually it's still weaving in the ends. But that's ok. I like this quicker shortcut. And thank goodness you did 3 chs in the corners & 1 in-between clusters. Somewhere along the years younger folks have not been doing this & now say they wonder why their Grannies are curling & need to be blocked.

I know I’m a little late to the video but thank you so much for this!! I hate starting with a normal ch3 and this helps thicken it up a little and it looks great! I DETEST sewing in ends and this is so perfect!!! I’ve watched a lot of other videos with other no-sew techniques and this is by far the best one out there!! This is such a game changer, THANK YOU!!

I have seen this done with a slightly different technique and it works , I will give this a try ! Thank you . I do prefer magic circle rather than a chain 4 but to avoid sewing in the tail from the magic ring , do the chain up 4 method to create magic ring and that tail is secure no need to sew in , at least that works well for me ..

I will honestly do anything to avoid weaving in ends at the end, so this is perfect for me 👍🏾

I've been crocheting for many years & developed my own way of sewing in ends (controversially using a hidden knot too) but I will defintely be giving your way a go. For starters, the way you started the magic circle blew my mind... I picked up crocheting as a hobby for the new year and was taught to chain 3 or 4 and work back into the first chain. This method wasn't the best for me because the center would always look bulky. I came to learn how to do one thing and got an extra tip. Great video!

What I have been doing since I started crocheting is while the yarn is on the hook, I slip stitch into the next few chains ending in a ch3 space (preferably a corner). Then I leave a long tail, cut the yarn, turn the square around n slip going backwards into the next chain 3 sp. This also leaves no tail to weave in and only takes an extra minute to do. It’s basically the same as your method only I cut after slip stitching. Hope this helps!

Used to do this instinctively but didn't much like the first thickened stitch.. I see that you drop the tail of the yarn for the last pull through of the st. And you make more than one st carrying the tail yarn . Will definitely be trying this out whenever I grab my hook next.. Thanks for sharing

I learnt to make granny squares from my aunt when I was 10 and I’ve been making them tor years. This is the se one time I’ve seen a video where a knit is tied when starting a new row. I don’t understand why. I’ve never found it necessary in all of the granny squares I’ve made. When burning the tail from the completes row, instead of forcing the yarn backwards along the row (it naturally lays to the right), I use the hook to pull the yarn through the tops of the stitches toward the corner to the right of where you end and then cover the tail with the stitches in the new row at the corner. I also cover the new tail at the same time.

It is a bit heavy on yarn. Would the stitches done with two threads not be bulkier than the others? Will try, but not convinced l'll stick with it. Happy crocheting.

Hi and thank you for this great way for securing yarn ends in granny squares. Do you have any tips for cotton yarn? I find the knots dont stay closed and ends manage to wriggle out even before I'm finished the square!

Should have used a light colour wool for the beginning as you can’t really see what you are doing at the end of the 1st round. Thank you for your tutorial.

Are the stitches on this corner much thicker than the other 3 making it look lopsided

Using a smaller hook makes using this technique easier. Once the tails are in, go back to the other hook.

Would that not make that corner look thicker than the others since you used two strands?

Why not start the round with a box knott, wouldn't that work too?

When I make the double loop at the beginning of the magic circle, the extra piece/tail I’ve circled around, ends up as a loose loop when I close my circle. Can anytime tell me what I’m doing wrong? 😢

While it takes a tad bit longer at the start of each row, it seems less daunting for the folks who leave sewing all those ends in to the final step, then don't have a completed project for who knows how long😂
