NOTES on this pattern:
- You may NOT copy and sell this pattern as your own.
- You may absolutely sell crochet plushies you make with this pattern as long as you credit me as the pattern designer!
- And please tag me on instagram @alinnacrochets in your finished work, I would LOVE to see your jellies!
Materials
♡ 6mm crochet hook
♡ Size 6 chunky yarn in chosen colors. You can make this in just one color if you prefer, but I used less than 1 skein of Parfait Chunky blue for the body, and I made the tentacles in pink, purple, and lavender
♡ 20 mm safety eyes
♡ Scissors
♡ Yarn needle
♡ Polyfil
-
Abbreviations
mr - magic ring
ch - chain
sc - single crochet
dc - double crochet
BLO -back loops only
FLO - front loops only
st - stitch
ss - slip stitch
-
Tentacles - make 6
ch 25
(2sc in the second ch from the hook, 3sc in the next) x 12 (60)
Fasten off and cut a short tail.
-
Head
1. 6 sc in mr
2. 6 inc (12)
3. (sc, inc) x 6 (18)
4. (2 sc, inc) x 6 (24)
5. (3 sc, inc) x 6 (30)
6. (4 sc, inc) x 6 (36)
7-14. 36 sc (8 rows)
15. (4 sc, dec) x 6 (30)
16. (3 sc, dec) x 6 (24)
Row 17 will be worked into the FLO of row 16. Mark the BLO of row 16 for later.
17. sc in the FLO of the first st, skip the next st, 5 dc into the FLO next st, skip the next st and repeat x 5.
You should have 6 shell stitches at the end of the row. Slip stitch to the first sc and ch 1.
Place safety eyes between rows 10 and 11, about 5-6 sts apart. You can begin to lightly stuff the head.
Row 18 will be worked into the BLO of row 16.
18. sc in the BLO of row 16 (24)
19. (2 sc, dec) x 6 (18)
-
Attaching the tentacles
We’re going to be tying the ends of our tentacles to row 19. Push your hook under a stitch from the inside going out and pull one tail through. Push your hook through the next st and pull the other tail through. Now tie 3 knots to secure the tentacle.
The tentacle should sit on the outside of the body while the tails are on the inside. Hide the tails inside the head, skip 1-2 stiches and repeat until all the tentacles are attached.
-
Head (continued)
Continue to stuff the head as you close it up.
20. (sc, dec) x 6 (12)
21. 6 dec (6)
Fasten off and close the hole.
-
If you’d like to make jellyfish that are larger or smaller, make sure your stitch count after your last row of increasing is divisible by 4 so that the shell stitches on the bottom of the head are evenly spaced.
- Alinna 💕

Finally! Someone who gave me the tutorial I needed. I basically gave up trying to learn how to crochet but was determined at 40 (with 2 kiddos who love crochet plushies) that I was going to learn. I had to restart a couple times, but I got it! And the finished product looks great. Now I just need to hide it until I can make a second 😂

I read that anything with tentacles help preemies. In fact, I’m crocheting octopuses for my local children’s hospital. I read that these type of “toys” while being next to baby, add more oxygen to their blood, the tentacles act like an umbilical cord, it helps keep the baby’s heart rate up, and it also helps them breath better. Also, the soft body of the toy, reminds them of when they were inside their mother’s womb, and it also helps them from pulling their cords off of their faces. So, these toys are a miracle toy, trying to help save a little miracle in more ways than one☺️!

A tip for the tentacle attachment: if you dont want to tie then in later, crochet them to the body during row 19. Since the row alternates between single crochet snd decrease stitches, simply add them in during each single crochet.

I am new to crocheting. One of the high school students I teach convinced me that I could learn how on KZfaq, so I gave it a try. The first video I watched was fine, but when I made this jellyfish, I was SO impressed by your teaching ability! You are clear and concise, and you move slowly enough when starting each new stich that even I was able to learn how! And my grandson loves his colorful jellyfish. Thank you!

I started crochet for the first time on Saturday and this is my first pattern I decided to follow it is now day 3 and I just finished my jellyfish of course I wasn't super prepared for my first project so I didn't have the correct eye size so mine looks derpy but error on my part I thought this tutorial was super easy to follow and other than I got the wrong yarn so my jellyfish is massive and has tiny eyes I think it's adorable and I love my new plush and it's even better cause I made it. I can't wait to continue crochet cause this was super fun

What a beautiful jellyfish. I absolutely fell in love with it. The colors are amazing. My favorite colors are neon. I have problems with a magic ring with bulky yarn. They don't wanna slide like the thin acrylic. I have a problem getting my magic ring to close. Sometimes my string snaps and the magic ring hasn't closed fully. Thank you for the wonderful and beautiful tutorial.

I run into this problem often with certain bulky yarns. You can also chain 2 and work into the first chain. I’d love to work with more neons too

When you make the singe crochet for the magic circle with bulky yarn make almost an extended single crochet and it will close very easy for you. Super loose is the secret!

Loved this tutorial and the little jellyfish! You did a great job in how you explained every stitch! Kudos to you! If I were to do a larger version would I just keep increasing the rounds? If you could let me know I would really appreciate it! Thank you in advance! Mary
@alinnacrochets
@alinnacrochets 10 ай бұрын
You could keep increasing but make sure you end up with a stitch count that’s divisible by 4 after your last row of increases, so that the shell stitches on the bottom are evenly spaced. Or you could just increase the size of your yarn and hook :)

Thank you for this. And for all your time, and energy. I love amigurumi, but no sew is an added perk.

Great tutorial! Do you know why my head turned out oval and not round? This is happening on everything I do even when following the pattern exactly. Thank you!

Never crochet before... Ive made 6 tentacles today! My son wants an octopus and insists it needs 8 would there be room to add 2 more legs? Also before i start making the head can i check row 4 i think it was (after 2sc increase to every stitch) do i do one single crochet in one stitch then 2 single to increase in the next and alternate or is it 1sc then the rest on that row are 2single increases? Loving your video

I'm doing it! I'm doing it! So chuffed I finally understood the sc and the increases! I'm on row 11 of the middle section after the right amount of increases! Thank you😊
