Boy if you think these vocals are “cutesy” you definitely won’t like “Onedari Daisakusen”. This song is pretty serious/dark compared to that.

Good reaction. I completely understand why it doesn't work for you, it isn't what you're familiar with and it throws you out when you don't hear what you expect after the instrumentals started off the way they did, but it is the contrast between the two extremes of the heavy instrumentals and their vocals that makes this song work for me. There is a cover on KZfaq where someone has replaced the vocals with the belching, growling, screamo vocals you might normally expect in a song like this ... for me that ruins it.

This is my favorite song from Metal Resistance. As you say, this song is performed by Black BABYMETAL. It is a subunit of only Yui and Moa. I think it is fun that adorable Yui and Moa sing using violent words on the heavy music. So choreography is also like manly and some kind of violent. BABYMETAL has begun due to finding of Su-'s vocal talent, but if I watch this, I understand their attraction is not only Su-. Mostly at dumb boys. : ) The title is probably a reference to the Metallica song 'St. Anger'. If you think these particular vocals were "uber cutsey", you probably haven't listened to a lot of music from Japan. Which is OK. Just pointing that out. This is closer to the other side of that spectrum, at least as far as female vocals go. There is a deliberate "gap" between Yui and Moa's performance and the Metal music though. The two youngest members always got the heaviest tracks.

The title of this song is an homage and play on words to Metallica's "St. Anger". The girls are basically saying they want to hurt crappy guys that make them mad with their horrible selfish ways. BLACK BABYMETAL (a nickname when a song is by just Moa and Yui) songs are the heaviest of all the BABYMETAL songs, and in my opinion, this song is the heaviest and most lyrically aggressive so far. You know what's funny is that for a lot of Judas Priest songs I felt the same way about his singing. That high pitch that he uses sometimes would drive my ears crazy. And he wasn't trying to be cute. As time went by I got use to it. So By the time Babymetal rolled around I barely blinked an eye over their young voices. Moa has done a couple of Black Babymetal songs by herself since Yui left. The songs are still cute but Moa's voice has matured too so the songs don't sound the same as back then. IMO they have a different kinda a cuteness to them. Mostly because anything Moa does is adorable but also Because she presents the song in her own way. As lots of folks have said each Babymetal song is different so the next song you might flat out hate. And the next song after that you could be in love with. I like all their songs, and there are songs I love. yup there are more songs I Love than I just like.

Aaah, context: Japanese are known for politeness, evenmoreso for girls, evenmoreso for younger ones. Hence, two young girls often just appear too cute to be angry, even when blabbering rude words with death metal music background. This song is exactly that. They aren't trying to be cute here, they are angry and their lyric aren't at all polite. But alas, they are just too cute to be angry. I think this is more intentional rather than miscasting. Whether the song delivers or not, there are arguments for both sides. Especially for those already immersed in the persona of these two girls, it is actually quite acceptable hahaha

So a bit to say on this, they do these Su less songs so that Su can get a break, they have a few others where Yui's and Moa's vocals go better with the music. Sis Anger honestly would sound A LOT better if Su was the one doing vocals HOWEVER, the vocals on the studio version of this song in my opinion sound better and fit a little better then the live performance. But yeah the band is the real star of this Sis Anger in the end. It's a shame because Moa and Yui can hold a note for sure. If you want to hear Moa's real voice you should watch what fans call and can easily be searched for on KZfaq "Moabanger". The actual song is called Headbanger and you should probably watch that first before Moabanger but yeah its a great watch!

Don't worry, it can take some time to get used to the cute vocals. You might want to check out their first big overseas performance: "Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere UK". I think you'd really like that one!

The contrast from their overly cute voices and the super hard instruments it's the whole point of this song: I just love it ahahah But if you don't like it, never listen to "Onedari Daisakusen" or "Song 4 / 4 no uta" :D When Black Babymetal sings, it's always with this overly cute voice :D And maybe you wouldn't like their earlier MV: since "Doki Doki Morning" and "Iine" came out when they where 12 and 11 years old, they had quite higher pitched voices :D Want to go back to a less "cute" song? My theory is that they need to balance Moimoi / BBM extreme cuteness with all that brutal instrumentals, including blast beats, super aggressive guitar riffs and so.

All Babymetal fans really want is for the girls to get a fair shake. So many critics and metal gatekeepers dismissed them outright and mistreated them so badly early on that the fans became hyper defensive. The girls were so young and the critics so exceptionally cruel. It just felt like watching someone kick defenseless kittens. That being said, my wife likes the music but doesn't like the vocals so much, just like you.

Good reaction... BM does a lot of different stuff, and some just doesn't work for some of us... That's normal. Heck, even Iron Maiden or Metallica have songs that I don't like.

You asked in one of your other videos if they had lip synching, Su pretty much does all her own vocals from what I can tell. If anything there may be a backing track but if so it's completely drowned out by her live voice. The backing vocalists are almost entirely reliant on backing tracks/lip synching though, you can clearly see in this performance their lips stop early and sometimes aren't even moving lol.

moa and yui's cutesy vocals over the heavy metal really clicked for me when i started picturing their voices coming from the end of a long hallway... once that idea popped into my head, their vocals took on an almost eerie vibe ... i'd honestly recommend listening to the studio version of this in a dark room at least once... just to see if it ends up growing on you lol

It's just funny that the vocal parts you found the most offensive here are actually pretty rough, and Japanese girls are not supposed to use them, for example "kirai na"="I hate", "janken jaa nai zo"="stop fvcking around", "bakayarou!"="you dumbass", but to the unprepaired ear it all boils down to cuteness. I kinda like that, it's part of their game.

Ya, the Yui&Moa songs are nice to bring variety when you're listening to a whole album or concert, but they don't have the same single-track appeal as the big BABYMETAL tracks with Su belting it out. Get where you're coming from 100%. Consider yourself not-lit-up.

I can 100% understand your reaction cause it kind of resonates with me a little. Yes I love Baby Metal but I think I am the biggest fan of Su-Metal. Moa and Yui to me rarely sing its mostly spoken word to my knowledge. I haven't heard every song by baby Metal but I have heard all of the A'sides and some of the B-sides. Rondo oddly enough is a B-Side. I just noticed you reacted to Megitsune that is typically more the vocal format for their songs, that being said as you may have noticed its never the same style of metal in BabyMetal that they present every song is just a little different in my opinon from what they have released. Guy, you made a mistake. You did not listen long enough before you decided what to think of the song. You heard that cute part, that you did not like, and did not let it flow into you to get the total experience. It is only a small part of the song and it fits in. It is not the song, it is a part. But by doing so you created a bias for the part you did not like and got annoyed every time you heard it. Instead, as I said ... let it just flow into you. It will change you. You will not be the same person. And when you have done so take a look at "GJ" by black baby metal, preferably with English sub titles.

I mean they are (were) little girls. I don't see their voices as overly cutesy, kawaii, whatever. Just young girls singing. That by default however could be seen as something cute I guess. I find it somewhat a sinister combination with the music. It's different and refreshing compared to the same stuff all metal bands put out again and again. But we all see things the way we want to see them. It will be different for all and not everyone finds the enjoyment in everything.

Moa and Yui actually can sing clean vocal like Su but in BABYMETAL they're make voice with their cute voice as BLACKBABYMETAL, but not strong like Su, Su is a Goddes.

That the vocals don't match the Instrumental the first time you hear it is quite normal. I bet most metal fans said the same thing when they heard screaming or growling for the first time ;) What surprises me though is that you find the vocals cutezy. To me it sounded, and still sounds, creepy.

We all have our own preferences and tastes in music, and that's a good thing! I am a big BABYMETAL fan and I like EVERY one of their songs, BUT that doesn't mean that I LOVE them all. Sis. Anger is one of the songs that I like to watch when someone reacts to it, but it's not on my daily BABYMETAL playlist to listen to. I do LOVE the heavy music of the song, but the melody of the vocals isn't energetic and catchy as other BABYMETAL songs that I prefer to listen to. Some people LOVE "BxMxC" or "Pa Pa Ya"...those song are just ok to me.

Cute Vocals + Death Metal - this is the USP. It will take some time, but once you are ready to drop the pre-conceived notion on how metal should be sung, you will definitely enjoy. I am a fan after years of listening to the most extreme bands, including slam vocals :)

I do not much like sis anger too but the heaviness makes it better. Their are so many Babymetal songs 20x better than this make sure to check them🤟 Babymetal Megitsune (MV) Babymetal Headbanger live at legend 1997. So many. Keep digging babymetal you'll find more than gold.

It's not that "it doesn't fit your ear", it's more about just getting used to it. That happens to anyone who is not used to listening foreign bands, specially Asian ones.

You should know by now what to expect, or at least not expect, when listening to Babymetal. 🤣 The contrast here is pretty crazy though. To get your head around Babymetal sometimes it might help to flip how you are approaching the song. If you're approaching it from the metal side it's pretty hard to see how the more pop like vocals fit. If you look at it from the girls side, and understand what they are trying to convey, the combination is a little easier to understand. Idk if that makes sense the way in saying it. 🙂
