Great video. Glad to see others doing regenerative style food plotting. Especially in a more DIY budget friendly way.

Well presented information. We plan on starting a couple of food plots on our land this year, and I found your video helpful. Thank you.

Thank you! Glad to hear, I will be posting more content this spring on No-Till food plots, with both a drill and broadcasting methods.

Good idea on the homemade crimper I've been looking at a large propane bottle and putting fins on it
@legendaryhabitatllc76493 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Yes that can definitely work, I would recommend trying to get a chevron pattern on it. If you go on Rodale institute’s website they have roller crimper blue prints that are very helpful.

I've been looking for an affordable roller crimper that's good enough for a few acres per year. I like your design. Do you get good results with it? The bouncing action probably improves the crimping a bit. I would pull it with a tow bar rather than the 3pt so not to put so much wear on the 3pt links. Are you planning to use it again this year? Thanks!

Thank you. The straight blade design is not optimal, but it works. Yes I will be doing more testing in No-Till practices, and also using a new crimper for this planting season.

Why not run a front crimper and have a seed drill behind for a grain/cereal crop?
@legendaryhabitatllc76492 жыл бұрын
I did not have a No-Till drill available at the time of this video. I will be using a drill and roller crimper this spring, so be looking for that video. Trying to also make videos that are more budget friendly, by showing you can broadcast seed, without the use of a expensive drill.

Why did you broadcast your seeds before roller crimping? Won't the crimper crush the seeds ?
@legendaryhabitatllc76493 жыл бұрын
Because the seed can easily fall down into the standing rye, making seed to soil contact. If I were to broadcast the seed after, most of the seed would probably not make it underneath the layer of rye. The tractor and crimper will actually help push some seed into the soil.

Yup, seed to soil contact is key, best to have the rye lay on top rather than the seed to try and fall through. ✝️🇺🇸🦌

Do you always lay seed before you crimp? Thanks!
@legendaryhabitatllc76492 жыл бұрын
Yes, this way you are laying the terminated cover crop over the seed, helping cover it and hold in moisture for it to germinate. I will be posting more videos on roller crimping cover crops soon.
It grew well, but unfortunately I had a lot of weed issues due to the rye not being thick enough, which is a common problem with this method. I will do a update soon on this plot and explain what I learned and how to avoid these issues in the future.

what brand of crimper is that
@legendaryhabitatllc76492 жыл бұрын
I built this crimper myself. I have sense learned what I would change on the next one I will be building.
