James Bond lives in this alternate ending. He knows he can not see his family anymore but can return to MI6. The original ending of NTTD left me unsettled. There are better ways for Bond to go out.

I don't know how UK citizens viewed JB's death; as a US citizen, it only bothered me because I so admired the work that Daniel Craig did in this role as the worldwide icon known to us all as James Bond. The way I have always seen Bond: resourcefulness, the cunning, the will to win, and his ability to fight to the death as depicted by Craig made it so easy to root for his portrayal of Bond as authentic because he did get the shit kicked out of him... as it is for us all in real life. Bond's life was a mess; job, love life, friendships, his ups and downs just came back to me as I watched it on the screen as real, even though it was all make believe, portrayed on film, acted out and scripted, Craig made it work. I didn't pretend to be looking at someone I felt a kinship with, I emotionally gave in and rendered my mental faculties moot because I connected and I wanted to root for this man on screen. Daniel Craig's work as James Bond can be loved or despised by the critics all day long, I don't care. It doesn't matter because Craig's work as Bond allowed me to freely choose a fictional character that I believed in: could have a drink with, smoke a cigar with, would actually care about enough to die for. I thoroughly enjoyed rooting and being emotional about Daniel Craig's portrayal of Bond. It just did not matter that it was all make-believe, I for one cared deeply about this actors work as the premier British "00"-spy, and if I could have interjected myself into any role, it would have been to protect this character and not let him die. It was as painful and as bittersweet a death to watch and handle on screen as it has been in my own life letting go loved one's and best friends when they too died. That's why in that fateful scene where Bond meets his demise, a small epiphany occurred, but I've known all along. Alas, life is not fair, and top it off, we age and die... but damn it, not James Bond. Until Daniel Craig came to the front and was cast as the titular spy. Well done Sir, you moved my thoughts, fanned my passions, allowed me to dream. Well done indeed Daniel Craig.

Well written good sir, I too admire everything about Daniel Craig and his contributions toward his character. And when I read this I was listening to the music that this scene was playing oh say around 0:23 and as I began to read this, one single tear had shed from my left eye. As I wiped it away and continued reading your love letter to these films, I witnessed James was still alive enjoying a nice drink with good company and I couldn't help but reply and let you know that I loved every minute of your literature. Thank you 😊

As a British man, whom has seen every Bond film at least 3 times over, I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried my eyes out during the death scene, as well as when they played Louis Armstrong at the end. Not only because the story of James Bond is so beautiful, but also because all of the Bond films I ever watched was with a family member who was dear to me, so it meant something more to me than just a film. I personally think Craig is 2nd to Connery, and he has earned that position because of the sheer pureness of his acting.

The Daniel Craig Bond movies strung together make such a compelling story, and even though it feels gut wrenching that his Bond dies, it certainly does tie up the story line appropriately His Bond, more than any of the others, felt the most human and the determined. There would never be a retirement for this Bond.

Craig's Bond literally retired 3 times. There was absolutely no other way to end his story than by having him die saving the world.
@Snagprophet
@Snagprophet Жыл бұрын
His one was more of a Batman reboot whereas the other ones are vaguely the same iteration. They also don't contradict each other so you can imagine Brosnan's Bond have having the same adventure as Lazenby etc. But Craig's was definitely a kind reboot and it's own self contained thing. But you could also just take Casino Royale and ignore the rest of it and treat that in a similar way to the previous ones.
@JJBM60
@JJBM60 Жыл бұрын
My thoughts exactly… people argued with me that I was wrong but I mean.. how else can you end a string of 5 films which are all connected and tell one big story?… I also saw it as a message to say that James bond as we know it is now gone, as in the classic character who seduces women half his age and stuff like that even though Craig’s bond didn’t do much of that compared to the others.. I’m curious about where they’re gonna go from here but I’m guessing it won’t be anything like the old films
@DnAwrestling1
@DnAwrestling1 Жыл бұрын
@@JJBM60 James Bond is always going to be a sexist, womanizing piece of shit. To change that would be a disservice to the character and the producers know that. Instead, the films just won't frame it as casually as they used to. He'll likely start facing actual consequences for his mistreatment of women and/or actually grow as a person over the course of the films. And that's entirely for the best. Fleming's Bond was always flawed at his core, and that's a much more interesting way of approaching the character than the perfect superhero that every man wants to be of the older films.

Exactly. And honestly one has to learn and accept that the five movies of Daniel Craig are a series themselves and as such have a closed story. In fact I can watch NTTD purely as one independent movie and then it is absolutely brilliant. All they can do to reimplement these five movies into the remaining 20 is that they bring a new actor and in the next film it starts off with something like the five Craig movies having been a dream or something.

@MagicCarpetRideShareProject 3 ай бұрын
Yeah, Daniel Craig has yet to hang from the tallest building in the world (he did the stunt himself) along with all the other crazy stunts he's done to entertain his audiences. He's hardly ready to be anybody's grandpa in that sense. Not to mention Cruise's franchise has been much more consistently good (aside from the weird 2nd entry which is more of a conventional action/thriller with martial arts rather than a spy film) than Bond has in recent years. I'm not gonna say that I hate the Craig era from top to bottom, but damn they really let me down right after his first film. I didn't enjoy overall any of the others, numerous problems. Skyfall was shaping up to be a classic Bond film, but then they took that left turn after (spoiler alert, if I even need to warn anyone) killed female lead. Then it got sour and they went so bare bones ''back to basics'' it didn't even resemble a Bond film. And then they killed off another meaningful character, M. Craig's ''Bond'' era would've been much better off being named something else as it has more in common like the Jason Bourne films than it does Bond. But the producers got all self conscious after going too cheeseball and at least tainting and eventually ruining Brosnan's run of Bond. Goldeneye was great and they started going down hill right after. But only the last of his was unwatchable for me. I haven't seen it again since it was in theaters. Brosnan always came to bat no matter what crappy script they pushed him into. It'd be great if Martin Campbell (Goldeneye, Casino Royale) could return to direct one more and show the twits how it's done. No one else in modern times has really proved they know how to make them sad to say. I'm glad the first Kingsman film was awesome and also The Man From U.N.C.L.E. film (still waiting for a sequel). And hopefully the coming soon Argyle will be a great new spy film. Someone has needed to pick up the slack, especially as Cruise is about done with his spy series.

@@trentdabs5245 And that was wonderful for Casino Royale, Daniel Craig’s first outing as this new, more ‘realistic’ Bond with a more cohesive narrative throughout the five films over the last 15 years. And while I don’t want to get too carried away with the death as I’m sure some writer more talented than me can come up with a way to ‘resurect’ the character with an new actor, I’m gonna pretend that they killed him permanently, even though that would be the stupidest thing even in a film franchise with 26 movies already in 60 years. Part of what makes me think that they killed them for real permanently is that Amazon bought the rights to the bond franchise but don’t have any plans for a new movie, only a game show based on Bond. I agree with you that it was great that there were steaks with the Daniel Craig era, but I will say that after all the suffering that we saw this guy go through, couldn’t he just have a happy ending for once? To me, Casino Royale was the pinnacle, and ever other movie from there on out was pretty great with the even numbered ones being stinkers. But we saw this guy get put through so much punishment, absolute hell, a happy ending would’ve been nice. Then again, Daniel Craig insisted on it, and I think somebody egotistically, he didn’t want to just be replaced without even an explanation but another “James Bond,” which at the pre-Craig era had come to be seen as basically just a code name…

well to be fair , other bonds never really had a complete story, for all we know, they were the same character if u know what I mean. also I find killing off main character when they r done w/ the role and series are boring/cheesy writing. its the same as "it was all a dream " writing. especially we all know if Daniel were to come back (obviously he isn't ) , the studio would not honour the death ending and just make him alive again therefore it really isn't truly about plot.

I literally bawled my eyes out, Craig is my favorite Bond and his story came together so well, the cast overall was always just perfect but to show the impact his death had on everyone meant so much - he gave so much of himself for these other people and even though it didn't seem like he cared, he did. He was so hurt inside and the drinking and subtle flirtatious-ness was part of his coping process (man they really wrote his life so well). The best part, but also the worst, is that he died happy, knowing he had actually finally found a true love and something worth actually going out for, his daughter, man... just amazing. I will miss Daniel Craig's Bond for the rest of my life, impacted me majorly.

Killing James Bond was a mistake. The whole point of the fantasy of James Bond is he survives anything thrown at him. Without that, he's just an average person. That's the escape we as the fan have. During a time of covid etc, what fans needed, was a hero again to lift them. Not die on us. James Bond will now never be the same going forward, and I'm sure, has lost a lot of older fans. The new , younger fans won't grasp the history and live of the character, because he's not all conquering as he once was and written to be.

For me, the Craig-era was the one I grew up with and I'm not really a fan of the previous iterations. In my opinion, Craig's version was the best Bond ever and there was a lot of effort involved in the movies which is quite evident. About ending his story with his death, I don't have a proper explanation as to why it had to go this way, but I think that the directors must've had a valid reason for doing so. Besides, Daniel wanted to end his run with Bond's death so I guess, as a Bond fan, I can have some respect for the wishes of the man who portrayed my favourite spy spectacularly.

But let's be real, the James Bond phenomenon reached fever pitch during Sean Connery's tenure. When the original movies came out, nobody had ever seen anything like them before. It's easy to dismiss their significance now in light of the 60 years of cinema we've had since they premiered, but those movies really were revolutionary for their time. In the modern movie landscape, Daniel Craig's 007 movies are just another big movie franchise that is popular with audiences, one amongst many. It has the advantage of appealing to modern sensibilities, but they lack the cultural impact of those original Connery movies.

So you'd see the island blow up then in the next scene you see madeline and her daughter find the doll with a figure watching from a far. I am so glad they didn't do this ending and committed to killing Bond because it works perfectly with Daniel Craig's version of Bond and it makes for brilliant arc from Casino Royale of man getting his heart broken to No Time To Die where in his final moments he fixes it.

If they actually end the franchise and don't make anymore movies, then I'm fine with it. If not, then I don't like the ending because that's the hole point of the entire franchise, James Bond has unlimited lives, that's just part of what makes him James Bond, you just can't take the guy out no matter what. Me, I would have ended the movie like this, he realizes he's been infected, so he can't go back to his girl and his daughter, so he dives into the ocean or somehow figures out how to escape the missile hits. Screen goes blank, then the next time it comes up you see bond sitting in a chair, under a spotlight, screen says at the top, "Location unknown", then we hear a faceless voice say, "So, Mr. Bond, it would seem that you have something incurable" "Well not to worry Mr. Bond, that's our specialty, curing the incurable"...... Then bam, James Bond melody hits, then closing credits start...... That way it's left open ended, we don't know if he's cured and can go back to his family or not, but at least we know he cheated death once again, because that's just what James Bond is all about...

I guess another thing if we're going down the EMP path is how much metal does bond have in his body at this point? We know that in casino Royale he was injected with a tracker device, and I kind of think maybe he had something with him at least when he was in Cuba that was like a tracker or a transmitter or something. They could have had Bond become a sort of watchful or protective guardian that kept an eye on his wife and daughter, maybe have his wife do a double take where we see him and cut to him being gone, when in reality, he turned the corner to be out of sight and out of "touch" but always there for them. Let the world think he's gone.

I'll always love the Bond films no matter if the older ones weren't to everyone's taste I take them for what they are and accept them for the time era they were made in. However Daniel Craig's Bond has become my favourite as I always preferred Pierce Brosnan. But Daniel was just fantastic. I love how these newer Bond films were not just showing the character what it takes to be Bond, but the audience, the sceptics that it's not all suits , martini's , women . It's SO much more being Bond isn't easy and Daniel portrayed this beautifully. I hope whoever is the new Bond gets a good audience and not criticised too much as it's a tough job to take over .P.S. I wish they hadn't gotten rid of Judy Dench as M as she was the best ever at aying that character.

Thought it was a beautiful ending, and really felt it. That nod to OHMSS hit hard. What did bother me was the whole ‘I have to stay here because of the nano-bots’ cause of the plot. Apparently there’s no EMP or MRI in this Bond’s universe.

This is one movie scene that actually made me cry. Knowing Danial Craig won’t return as James Bond broke my hear. It crushed me. His debut as 007 happened 4 years after I was born. Years later I remember watching it with my uncle and that’s when I got hooked. I grew up with Daniel Craig playing Bond, and so to know that’s ending feels like a part of my childhood is ending.

This is even more heartbreaking to me. If I was given a choice between giving my life for my family, knowing they are safe versus surviving and living, knowing you will never be able to be with them. I'd always choose the first one, I'm glad the final cut of the movie was Bond giving his life for this family, I simply cannot allow Daniel Craig's Bond to suffer anymore, he deserved a good fairwell and he got it. This is truly the end of an era to me being a 2000 kid. Daniel Craig's James Bond was the one I got to grow up with, saying good bye is really bittersweet. He's my definitive James Bond, now and forever. I'll show my kids his James Bond, I have to.

I've been following Bond since 1972. I followed the character, not the actor. Sure one actor was better than the other, but the profile is almost the same, and the ideas and idiosyncrasy of the Bond movies and books are the same, and are beyond actors and time. The owners of this franchise (The Wilson/Broccoli family aka EON) were very aware of this, and thus, every now and then, we ended seeing our beloved character, interpreted by another actor, but the Bond "flavor" remained year after year, with one constant adventure after adventure: BOND NEVER REALLY DIED. When in this movie, I saw that Bond really DIED, I was in shock! Is EON trying to revamp the character to accomplish these new agendas (as Disney tried with EVERYTHING they have like SW, Marvel, Pixar, etc)? if so, this is probably the death of Bond 007 as we all know it, and the next generations probably will pay to see a gay, or woman playing Bond 007. I respect these groups, and the exposure they are having in the media, BUT sorry, I would not pay to see or read about this kind of 007. As I would not pay to see a "Wonder Man", or a "Black Widower" movie.

Honestly in my opinion at least, having him alive and yet so far and lost out at sea with absolutely no way of reaching or contacting anyone, with everyone believing him to be dead, might the best and probably most powerful way for Bond to go out on. Just him on a drifting life raft in the middle of a vast and barren ocean with nothing but an empty gun and one last bit of martini in a hip flask. Such an ambiguous note. Wouldn’t you say?

Been watching Bond films 45 years. Craig was an absolute favorite of mine. Watched tonight. It Thought it was a tragi and weak ending. James Bond always survives. It was too serious and too sad...but so goes our world these days. Bond films promote hope and victory...always have always will. I didn't see this one in the theater. My instincts told me something was awry and disappointing about Craig's last film. These films have always left hope.

@bigbasspa

Would have been nice if that was the true ending. But I think that, like Connery's Bond, Craig's bond was an intense man and that can only go so far as, emotionally, the character must be fairly limited i.e. pretty dark most of the time. After Connery came Roger Moore (passing over Lanzenby) and he gave us a more upbeat, stylish, English gentleman type of Bond which was a good idea as it revitalized the character. I think that after Craig either Henry Cavill or Tom Hardy would make excellent Bonds at this time as both can portray stylish, witty, charismatic characters yet make great action heroes. Tom Hardy's character in Inception was very Bond like and Henry Cavill of course would get to play both James Bond as well as Napoleon Solo. I'd be happy with either. It needs someone with 'presence' and style and both of these actors have it.

@@bigbasspa Yeah, it was destroyed in a Calafornia film vault fire there's a debate, some say 1965, others say 1967. There are rumours that some one in Bulgaria owns a copy, if so that person can become very rich this year by selling it, as all copyrights to it go back into the public domain this year, 95 years after the intial release of the movie. Fingers crossed, you never know. Its funny but maybe its better for this Holy Grail to stay lost it has an aura of mystic surrounding it, it would be ashame to ruin that by releasing it to the world. @@singin8324 Thank you. Mark of the Vampire with Bela Lugosi was a kind of a remake - no spoilers of course. Imagine how good House of Dracula and House of Frankenstein would be if they had used Bela rather than John Carradine. Never understood why they didn't use him. By then Universal's horror films had much lower budgets than in the 30's but Bela was not a very wealthy man so I'm sure he'd have been happy to put his fangs in again even if the money was not that much.
