An inexpensive way to replace grill grates with expanded metal mesh for almost any grill without a plasma cutter, welding equipment, or a cutting torch. This took me about an hour. You can get the expanded metal mesh from just about any hardware store. You'll also need an angle grinder with a steel cutting disk. You'll also need a piece of scrap lumber to cut a slot into to bend the metal.
I don't know the gage of the expanded metal but it was the thinner option at Home Depot and it was not galvanized.

Thanks. Could use just about anything with a slot that deep and wide enough to fit the expanded metal into.

I really really wish I saw this video literally yesterday, I cut a piece of expanded stainless for my pit boss pellet grill/ smoker, it will not fit in one piece because of the lips on each side, I got 1/4” S S rod to weld at the joint to help support it, I cut of enough the I would have been able to bend it like you did. UGGG that is a grate idea lol

I used a skill saw to cut a 1 1/4" deep groove in to a piece of scrap lumber to brake (bend) the metal mesh

Thanks. My neighbor had set it on the curb and I figured I could try an experiment on it. Hated to see it go to a landfill prematurely. I'm shocked at how many views this has got. I sold it but the guy who got it was happy with how it grilled.

I have that same grill. Except my firebox was toasted. Needed to use some high heat epoxy to patch the holes.

How has it held up? Has the heat warped the expanded metal at all? I’m looking to weld some bee grates for my grill and trying to figure out how thick I should get the expanded metal
@brandoncriner5480
@brandoncriner5480 3 жыл бұрын
I sold it recently afterwards so I don't know. But I would probably upgrade to a thicker gauge if I had to do it over again. I got the thinner gauge at Home Depot. There's only two types there
@mydraftable6526

Best get heavier guage. At least 14 guage. Stainless obviously best. Go to steel supplier not home depot for best price

Cleaning with a regular bbq brush would suck. It would get hung up in all the corners of each diamond shape.
