Noah Elkrief
This video is about how to deal with stress, and provides a stress management technique.
If you have been dealing with stress, it is likely that you believe your stress has been caused by your external circumstances.
However, in order to understand how to deal with stress and get anxiety relief, you first have to understand what is causing your stress. No stress management technique will be able to work unless you are first clear that stress isn't caused by facts, but by thoughts.
If facts caused stress, then everyone who had the same facts would experience the same stress, everyone would experience that stress in every moment that their facts remained the same, and you couldn't escape your stress simply by thinking about something else.
The first step for this stress management technique for how to deal with stress is to discover that your stress is created by your thoughts and not by the facts.
The next step for how to deal with stress is to discover that you don't know what outcome would be best for you. You don't know if the outcome you want will lead to suffering, and you don't know if the outcome you fear will lead to joy.
I hope you found this stress management technique helpful, and that you enjoyed my video about how to deal with stress (how to deal with anxiety). Thank you for watching.

Noah? Are you still on KZfaq? I'd like to tell you that I struggle a lot with a mental illness that almost killed me a year ago. For the last 6 months I've been dealing with horrible nightmares and now I watch your videos before I go to sleep, and it really helps me calm down and feel safer during the night. Your very true words make things easier for me, not a whole lot, but a little bit, and that's enough. And I'm so grateful I found your KZfaq channel. You're so gifted and smart and I thank you a million times for sharing your thoughts with me. Hope you're still on KZfaq.

This video deserves a million views. Your example of others not feeling stressed about the same job, in my situation is due to the fact that others seem too smart and make the job easier for them them and they seem to understand and figure out the particular task, while for me it takes so much time and low production due to me having difficulty understand the same.

I found your videos in desperation over a breakup I'm going through. I wanted you to know that you seem to have something for my every problem. Also I seem to have every problem you have a video for. You are a wise and compassionate man. You're helping me in a difficult time and I thank you for it. You don't seem to address 'how to stop hurting when someone's broken up with you because you really did deserve it and nothing you can do will ever make it any better."

I recently discovered your channel after being taken to the ER 2 days ago and having my heart rate stabilized with some sort of heart pill, and being given lorazepam aka ativan via IV. I had heart palpitations and felt as if i was going to pass out or feint at any second.. along with a racing heart. It was pretty scary and i thought something was seriously wrong with me. They kept me for 3 hours and after all their tests, they chalked it up to being sinus tachycardia most likely brought on from anxiety or stress. Which more or less is just a uncontrollably fast heart rate.. 150bpm in my case. I have been constantly looking through the internet for help but found none as beneficial as your videos. This was so recent that i need immediate help, and im glad to have found a form of it here. im only 20 years old, and have a feeling i have a bit of a journey ahead of myself to get over this. I suffer from anxiety, stress, anger and depression issues, but i was too blind to notice all of them until this "breakdown". I am going to being doing my best to make a conscious decision in staying calm and generally being a more positive, less hateful person. At this current moment im still getting anxiety attacks, and can feel my heart beat in my chest and neck.. sometimes between my shoulders.. Which always gets me thinking about anxiety and its a endless cycle, but hopefully ill get over this soon. Somehow typing this all down has made me feel a little better.. or maybe its just me distracting myself aha. Either way, thanks for all the time you put into this channel. I know for a fact you are helping thousands of people. Thank you.

Hi , Noah, I have been watching your KZfaq videos, and bought your book (when it is not free by the way haha), they are very helpful, in helping me figure out the fact that sufferings are created by thoughts. Throughout my whole life, both in long term and short term, I had been always looking for things that might make me feel good, such as getting good grades, entering a good school, developing a hobby, or engaging in fantasies of having a dream girl or a dream job. Or in short term, I ate, watched TV or Played games, Chat a lot to make me happy. Of course they both brought me some pleasure, more or less, but I still felt a sense of lack, or a sense of discontent, like a hole that can't be filled. I know now that by themselves their effectiveness of bringing happiness is quite limited. Logically speaking and by my own experiences, I can see how our attachment to things makes us suffer. Thinking that some things will bring us happiness (now or in the future), and feel depressed when they don't is not fun at all. Especially for those addictive activities such as watching TV, porn or playing video games, going to movies, having sex..etc, they give pleasure in some sensational ways, but in no way fulfilling. However, there are still constant urges for me to engage in them. For example, when I am trying to read some books for my entrance test to a school (I know getting into a good school itself cannot make me happy by the way) I still feel strong urges to reading posts on my Facebook, or reading e-mails, watching TV, Porn , and other stuff. Although I am almost always sure they only provide me with temporary distractions(As it always proves to be true later on). I choose to keep doing them anyway, and in fact they even lose their power of distraction after a short while, it becomes like chewing gum of no flavor, but still I choose to chew it anyway. I believe I am not the only person who is being stuck in similar patterns. I watched your videos about stopping procrastinating for many times. You mentioned you makes the thing that doesn't motivate you "neutral". I can see what you are talking about, but when the activity itself doesn't make me interested, it can be hard to say it's neutral, it's a sense of discontent or lack. I read some books of buddism, and they resonates with you to some degree. Maybe our lives are in its entity "discontent", we are always searching for things that makes us happy in all sorts of ways, then when we achieve them, we either are scared of losing them or just disappointed that they don't bring as much as a long-term happiness as we thought they may. However, we are keeping doing this anyway. And it seems to be the only way that the world are telling us how to be happy, as in our education, tradition and other scenarios. When people are saying that some things are "right" to do, they are actually saying that doing that thing will make us or others happy in the long or short term, but its doesn't really work because nothing by itself can bring us long-term happiness. When thinking of this, it makes me feel that every person on the planet is in some degree equal, ugly or pretty, rich or poor, whatever nationalities we are of, unknowingly we are just doing the same thing in different ways, and this strategy rarely works, if ever (as in bringing happiness) and when they work to some degree, we often are scared of losing the happiness they brought again. Is the entity of life a sense of lack? As for me, "the sense of lack" doesn't seem to be "thoughts" It's more of a thing that's always hidden in the background and even when we are engaging in distractions, we are feeling them knowingly or unknowingly. If that's the case I think I can try to get used to it little by little, instead of trying to look for happiness in ways that doesn't really work.

Hi Noah! Great video, I feel this has really helped overcome my stress. Something else that is really bothering me though is not stress, but simple discomfort or sadness. More specifically, I don't like going to school :/ Obviously school and my classes aren't causing my displeasure, but I can't quite figure out how to disbelieve the type of thoughts I'm having. My thoughts are basically: "this is boring. I rather be doing something else. This isn't fun. I'm wasting my time." How can I overcome these? It's sort of different than anxiety thoughts. Thank you!!

Yea I was negative about the "disproving thoughts" process but once I got into it, it gets easier and I've found some relief. Although it's not as easy or straightforward as the whole feeling into and letting the energy grow method, it's certainly another tool to use to see what's real and what isn't. Thanks.
