Fish meal is a powder obtained after cooking, pressing, drying and milling fresh raw fish, while fish oil is a liquid pressed from the cooked fish. Both are produced from harvesting short-lived, fast-growing stocks of small, bony and oily fish for which there is little or no demand for human consumption. By-products or trimmings from seafood processing are an increasingly large contributor to fish meal and fish oil production. 
With excellent nutritional value and containing high levels of polyunsaturated fat, they are among the most nutritious and digestible ingredients for aquaculture feeds and species. As such, they are recognised to provide health benefits to farmed animals and to the consumers of these products. These marine ingredients are currently in good supply, but they are also in very high demand from multiple sectors which is why Skretting undertakes extensive ingredient R&D at Skretting Aquaculture Innovation (AI). In fact, Skretting is able to make feeds containing no marine ingredients at all.

What about the high levels of chemicals used(antibiotics) which can result in mutations in microbes due to selective pressures? What about the deleterious effect on the environment? What about the levels of residual contaminants in the Salmon?

The china plants don't have to be laboratory clean, they are making fish meal. Fish meal, like bone meal, and blood meal are fertilizers. Fish meal can also be used to make fish and poultry deed.

utk salmon di norway kayaknya sih sesuai sop dan standard tapi yg di chile atau nz atau aussie sepertinya nggak sesuai sop yg di chile itu sering "keracunan gas" ketika pergantian musim shg byk yg mati dan sering kali hanya langsung di buanh gitu aja shg jadi polusi air dan udara yg di aussie dan nz pun juga bermasalah di pakan - diberi pakan limbah ayam supaya cepat gemuk akibatnya kerang di perairan sekitar farm tercemar dan nggak mampu menyaring limbah tsb

How much plastic is used in this production, all in the name of convenience? I'm certain that so much of it will be difficult to deal with as waste, and that loads of it will end up in the sea!!! That's on top of all the oil that is used!!! This process, despite being impressive, is also environmentally, so destructive!

@jsdavisfamily Orcas are literally starving to death and losing calves due to how far salmon numbers have fallen. The fish numbers you see now may look like plenty but they're pale compared to decades ago.
