The Hot Sun and very rich Indo gangetic plain soil which is fertilized by sedimentation. The best melons are from farms along the river or canal banks. The hotter the sun the sweeter the melon. Indian platreay hit 45-50 degrees Celsius (a little too hot for some melons 😅).

Я жил Навоийском обл. И мы сами вырашивали таких арбузов. И сохранили аж до новогодних праздников. Я уже как 16 лет уехал от туда и с тех пор первой вижу. Для меня ностальгия.

It's because their land is very limited and they won't be able to mass produce any type of crop. Naturally you turn to pursue the quality. And if you've had any fruits from japan, you will understand why people are willing to spend the money. I studied aboard in Japan during college and it's been a few years and I still won't eat strawberries or melons in the United States.

They dont spend any more time than a typical green house. There is nothing special about this water melon beside the price. The grower made a very very very nice profit.

Unless those laborers are paid $100 an hour the cost isn't justified by the overhead. That is, in my humble opinion.
