The floating island is real, usuaully they are sand or dirt islands that water errodes away most of the ground underneath, but the thick plants like trees and grass ontop make such a thick root network it stays together. So think of it less like an island, and more a giant mangled mass of roots with dirt/small rocks stuck together floating on water. like if you tried to walk on it, it is likely you would fall through in many spots.
