Everyone thinks their records are worth a lot of money. Do your research before hand people. I generally agree with your pricing, but for those of us who do not have access to a variety of good record stores - 80% of my purchases are on line and prices are definitely higher than your prices. I'm in enough hot water with the wife regarding my vinyl collecting. If I lived near your store, you would have to adopt me cuz I'd be divorced 😂. Love your channel !!!

Love your channel! I worked in a record shop for about a year and the worst was telling an older women that her (late) husband’s records weren’t actually worth the eBay prices she had seen. Heartbreaking sometimes to let folks down like that, I wish it was more widely known that what you see on eBay isn’t always the worth!

Why would Abbey Road go out of print if it were still a financial gain for the record label to produce more vinyl? Hmm, maybe just a way to artificially increase the supposed value?

Aloha Dylan Thank you for an awesome insight On vinyl collecting and the worth of those particular record albums. I my personal self have been listening to record albums since the mid sixties and on. And today when I go to flea markets or even some antique malls I've noticed some ridiculous prices on record albums and there not even 1st pressings sometimes there on Pickwick labels. I recall seeing Elvis record albums priced at 50 bucks and up yet being a pressing a 1980's pressing. Either the prices has gone up that much Or they think Elvis is worth that much, lol. And yes I know that some have Extraordinary value. but when an amateur prices things without doing research 😕 that is so sad. So again thank you for a great video. Looking forward to seeing your next video. Mahalo Ed.

Dillon, Great video. Back in the day you couldn't give that VU record away. I finally bought one at the local record shop, and the owner gave me the other two he had. Sold two sealed for 100 bucks in the 80's at a record show and swap. The other one I traded for records I wanted around 2005. Found a turquoise Zep 1 at a yard sale, bought it for cheap, found out it was a boot. Oh well.... Hung the posters, stuck the stickers. Somehow I'm glad I did! Take care.

Great video, most of those albums I had back in the day a album usually cost about $3.50 to $3.99 for a single disc and $5.50 to $5.99 for double albums. So I guess over time the $15 to $30 range is about for 2021 I remember buying Hendrix - Isles Of Wight which came out in 1971 as a import which was about $10. , Just like Gentle Giant - In A Glass House was about $12.00. Import pressings were hard to find in NYC.

Good estimate re: those prices. I started buying albums in the late 60s and a single disc sold for $4.00 ($3.77 + Pa. sales tax). Looked that up recently on the U.S. Consumer Price Index web site and it comes out to today to about $25.00 + tax.

One for you as a big Zeppelin aficionado. In 1978 I was spending my usual Saturday afternoon over at Portobello Market and a guy had a box of copies of 4 for sale. I bought one as my copy had seen too many parties. It was about four bucks US at the time cos no one wanted a Lilac vinyl version of the album. Gave it to my partner at the time when we split in 81, they probably dumped it years ago.

Have you ever come across a mini LP from '83 called "Star Fleet Project" from "Brian May & Friends"? It had Brian May, Eddie Van Halen, Alan Gratzer, Phil Chen, Fred Mandel, and Roger Taylor. It only had 3 songs on it, but it was pretty much a jam session that was recorded without the initial thought of putting it out on record. I have an original copy and have never seen another one out there. Mine will never be for sale, but do they have a value since there probably weren't a huge amount sold?

This is useful as a dealer. I always check ebay sold, never look at ebay currently listed. Speaking of that, the worst one I ever saw was a listing for 3 standard David Bowie albums of no special pressing whatsoever, the seller wanted £800 for them! There is also a listing for a Beanie Baby that they're asking about 26 grand for because it has a letter wrong on the label or something. It's worth at the very most £100.

Great job Dylan! I’m new to your channel and must ask Why did you not mention Led Zeppelin III originally had a large spinning thick paper wheel that brought up all kinds of different faces and pics in holes cut out in the album cover that covered the wheel when you spin it around? I actually have not only my original player but one still in the plastic. I don’t even remember where I got it but it is mint. Loving your content & looking forward to discovering more great unknown 70s rock! I have a band to turn you onto that’ll blow your mind if you haven’t heard them. This thread looks 2 years old so I hope you see it and have a minute to respond! Thank you Andy

Its crazy what people will pay for LP's. I worked in a record store in the late 70s, spent most of my pay on albums, spent lots of money on imports from America then too. I've sold most of my records over the years, maybe a couple of hundred left. The days of washing my vinyl to remove iron filings from record player needles, that was the advice I was told to do back then. We have a large second hand record store here in my city about 20 minutes away. I'm glad to see collectors and wannabes can find lots of advice & feel envious of some huge collections out there.

I have noticed an uptick in pricing for 45rpm lp's pressed at either RTI or Pallas I have Fleetwood Mac Rumours @ 45rpm pressed at Pallas medium price is 75.00 and if in really good shape over 150.00 I have noticed anything pressed at Pallas is going for big money I know that the sound from these records is fantastic better than anything I ever heard. Jazz if your not buying reissues you will spend an arm and a leg to get in VG+ condition.

Its not bad for the records to be piled in that oblique way? I mean, the last one isnt taking the weight of the rest?

Great vid. I just picked up about 600 LP’s from an estate. Including most on your list. It’s a shame the owner marked each sleeve and label with his name in permanent ink. Knocks them all down to VG at best. Breaks my heart. But then again, he wasn’t a collector, he just loved the music. And that’s what it’s all about. Thanks for the info.

I used to be bothered about that sort of thing but less so now, as long as the price I pay reflects it. Particularly with older discs the owner's old-fashioned name, price stickers from long gone record shops etc are themselves interesting.

Why are mono pressings worth more than stereo in many cases?

Fewer made in late 60's...sometimes better mix...some are just fold downs

As Stereo began to dominate the market the mono pressings were made in less and less numbers. By the late sixties they'd developed mono cartridges that could play stereo records properly, so mono pressings had pretty much vanished by 1968.

It’s all about when they came out, late 50s early 60s stereo pressings are usually more valuable than mono pressings because nobody had a stereo system. If you are aware of the classical record market the most valuable records are the early stereo pressings by labels like RCA and Mercury while there mono counterparts on the same label are worth next to nothing.

That's a nice one - similar to the untouched Beatles 'Butcher' cover with the boring band shot on the front pasted over it, over time the ones with the sticker have become rarer and rarer, because everybody wants to take off the sticker to see the Emerson photo. Last time I looked, ones with the band name sticker are worth more than the ones that have had them removed, even if the person taking off the sticker managed to do it really cleanly.

Dillon, have you seen the version of Abbey Road where the band is walking the other way? I saw one once. I thought it was a flipped image but it's a different photo. I'm only concerned with the price for the ones I'm selling, my own copies are "priceless"

If there's enough suckers willing to pay 200,300,500 or more dollars for a record, more power to you, you got fools gold and you got a goldmine in your record store.
