AMD is still the "discount storebrand option", the only thing it can compete with is price. Offering 10% better value in rasterized performance doesn't mean much when your performance goes to shit when you enable RT effects, and the features you offer are generally only worse versions of NVIDIA features. Then there's the elephant in the room that to many computers aren't _only_ glorified gaming consoles, we do all sort of work on our puters. That's where AMD starts becoming a nonstarter, especially if it includes anything built around CUDA, or anything AI. AMD needs to do better than be perpetually catching up.

That's real. I'm a double niche use case 😘 And that's very real, VR compatability accounts for spit in sales. AMD has upped their game, and the drivers have come so far for most use cases in the past few years. The fundamentals are solid now. Niche cases like VR and maybe more common RayTracing (🤢) are still way off. AMD should be a viable option these days, but few are using their gpus. The cpus are looking real good these days though, I've never recommended a team red product, but the 7800x3d and 7900x are fairly reliable beasts.

AMD graphics cards still have a stigma against them due to past poor performance from prior generations. Seven years ago AMD's 500 series cards massively underperformed compared to Nvidia's 1000 series, so the stigma is somewhat justified. That said my 7900 XT is killing it in games where my 3070 Ti could barely keep up. Unless you are are spending $800+ and are really into one of the few heavily raytraced titles on the market, there is no reason to be going NVIDIA right now other than brand loyalty.

So many AIB partners aren’t producing Radeon cards. People have brand and in turn styles they prefer/have experience with. With such limited options on styles I get why some people have chosen to just wait it out or choose an Nvidia card that meets their style.

I mean I bought an RX580 in like 2017 I think idk when it came out, been using it since to play even the newest games on medium settings for 60+FPS, so I'm pretty satisfied considering a 1060 or 1660 would be double the price and give the same performance. Don't know about processors though since I don't have an AMD socketed motherboard currently

Huh, weird title... my GPUs over the years.Radeon 5570, Radeon R9 280X, Nvidia 1070ti. My current rigs: 5700G/RX 6700X, 3800X/6950X, 5900X/6950X. Over the years, got a Cyrix DX4 1000Mhz, Athlon 3 core cpu, intel i7 860, intel i5 6600K. Before the Radeon 5570, I had an Nvidia 680 or 860 something, RMA'd twice and still died before warranty. That thing was from BFG, guess that company went under. Seems I buy more AMD products done others.

AMD doesn't make and sell graphics cards, they sell the GPU silicon to board makers. They could be giving up a ton of revenue on the price they are selling their chips just to remain competitive with nvidia. While a consumer is paying $500 for a 7800XT and $600 for a 4070 Super, a 20% difference, nvidia's revenues on the chips could be 100%-200% higher than AMD's, and even more ludicrous with the 4090.

Intel should use the longest German word in their naming like this: Intel Core Ultra Processor Donaudampfschiffahrtselektrizitätenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft 285K
@bigman2760
@bigman2760 Ай бұрын
while intel's rollout of the "core ultra" naming scheme is frustrating to say the least, there is at least a silver lining, especially for used market buyers. a listing for an "i7 system" could be anything from a high-performance, modern system, to an ancient, decrepit system hardly capable of running modern windows usably. refreshing the naming convention, at the very least, provides a little more clarity as to the recency of a given chip or system.

I liked the jump Samsung did with their naming. IF they are going to change some part of the number, It should reflect the year released. If they are going to change it it should be 2445, 2465, 2485. My guess is they want the name to be confusing so they can roll out old stock more easily.

I have absolutely zero brand loyalty, but the reason I go toward nvidia when purchasing a discrete gpu comes down almost exclusively to a large number of accelerated applications requiring cuda specifically. from upscaling applications like wifu2x to ai image generators like stable diffusion, to the most performant cgi renderers availible in apps like blender... also nvidia has some specialty apps like ai upscailing that works like a video filter (scales most videos in a browser (or in potplayer for my ripped blu-rays and dvd's), works great on my 4k displays. nvidia also has their broadcast ai noise removal and ai background removal services for when I stream with obs which I make use of. I have yet to find equivalent functionality on the amd front... but I would LOVE to see increased competition and some more open standards for performant ai workload development (rather than just writing for cuda). and i'd love it if amd would cater a little better to the streaming and video production crowd with something similar to the rtx broadcast tools. competition is great for everyone for improved pricing, improved features all around, and improved quality. amd's gpu team is world class - the 7000 series gpus are actually pretty dang decent in terms of raw hardware - now they just need to get real-world feature parity.

AMD could be crushing the xx60 series, and might want to focus there. Polaris was relatively successful and is still somewhat relevant today. The RX 580 competed directly with the GTX 1060. Both were great cards. RX 580 remains the most widely used AMD card on steam to this day. It's possible RX 8000 might just do this, since the rumors are there will be no highend cards this round. If they can produce a card that crushes the RTX 5060 and sell it for like $260-280, that'd be a winner.

I think this is pretty sad. I've had my RX 7800XT since the card launched, and I've had a blast. Had a couple technical issues at the very start, but ever since January it's been rock solid and it plays literally everything well at 1440p, and I don't really miss DLSS or the RT support, as most games barely look any better with RT turned on tbh. Can personally recommend, especially at the price it has today.

The AMD Gpu sales are still surprising. Some of the slower sales are due to higher launch prices but the value is so far ahead of Nvidia it’s insane. I really hope they don’t downsize their product stack and only focus on entry level cards. Being a 7900xtx owner I’d hate to be forced into buying a 5090 or 6090 in the future simply because there is no other option for high end 4k gaming.
