My bigger point is that finding somebody that makes a million dollars a year today does not mean they will make that much 20 years from now, 10 years from now or even 1 year from now. Picking a long term partner based on the amount of money they make is a probably not going to survive the long term.

The overpriced house analogy is pretty good - until it's sold the house value is zero. Even worse if you're in the market to have kids. A house you can just sit on until the right buyer appears. Raising kids require you to be young enough to have them. Imagine your house is lined with composition 4 explosives and a 5 year timer. Set your price accordingly.
