As someone who has read the LN quite a bit. Ainz is fully in control of his actions. In the LN you hear a lot of his inner thoughts, and let me tell you, especially towards the end, his inner personality is just as corrupted as his outward. There is one instance in the book where he is talking to the representatives of a nation he is on friendly terms with, and during this he is casually considering if it would be more profitable to genocide their enemies to gain their favor or to genocide them and side with their enemies. You have to understand when Ainz considers something he doesn't debate whether it's morally right or wrong. His only thought process is "will this bring me greater benefits". When he first got transported he might have had some humanity left. But being turned into an undead robbed him of most of his feelings. Including his empathy and affinity for humans. His only real motivation is his desire to preserve his friends legacies, Nazarick and the guardians. He views the guardians as his children, and he would destroy the entire world if it made them happy.

The thing I like about overlord is that it’s not traditional hero and villain thing. The story revolves around Ainz and Nazarick but it doesn’t mean they can’t be evil. Like real life, you can’t comprehend it objectively good or bad. It gives so much depth to story and that’s why this show is on my top 3.

When I first saw this I thought ainz left that gold for them to take and leave. Cause in the game ainz/momomga had undead guards and attacked invading forces himself with his people. Those were absent. I think he was trying to give them an out. You doing this for money take this and go if you cross the doors into my home your lives are forfeit

People get shocked by Ainz's brutality but his logic is pretty sound. Like, he COULD kill them painlessly...but some guardians need food or nesting room or whatever. For Ainz, the denizens of Nazarick are his #1 priority, and the denizens of the New World are three or four levels under them.

the workers are child's play compared to what the tomb is really capable of. I mean the tomb stood and won against 1500 level 100 players and mercenary npc's back in the yggdrasil days.

Anime skipped the part of momon and all the worker's journey to nazaric, ainz actually talked with them on the way and even had a duel with the old worker and all the groups except foresight group(that's why he fought them in nazaric), and after seeing them all, he decided to only forgive the elf slaves, because they had no free will.

dorcable is like demiurge focuses on the plan not the pleasure im like wtf what show have you been watching? trust me he is enjoying the multiple ways of torture sadistic acts and mind fuckery inflicted on the humans and also demihumans

I really dont think Ainz is a bad guy. Ainz really values his past nakama's and the tomb where him and his nakami built it. So for the workers to steal from their tomb really makes ainz mad.

to ease your minds the chains are like the macho brace from pokemon so to speak its like an exp booster or sorts, it helps with level ups

For some fun information, Yuri Alpha, and Sebas are two of the very very few beings in Nazarick with positive karma, so yeah Yuri is quite nice. Those elf slaves thankfully get to live! Ainz recognized that they were not invading willingly, so now they serve Aura and Mare

The chains are magical items that make easier to gain levels in warrior class. Ainz was making an experiment with those items, seen if it work on the new world as well as in Yggdrasil.

Here is a little detail that will never come out in the anime, but might shed some light onto Ainz character: In the novel there is a "goodness" value called Karma. Karma ranges from -500 (pure evil) to +500 (pure good). Sebas Tian has a Karma value of +300. Meaning, he is a actually a VERY good person. Even though he is part of Nazarik. Ainz on the other hand has a Karma value of -500. Ainz's character is the purest evil this world has. No matter how the anime portrays it, there is basically no instance where Ainz does ANYTHING out of kindness. EVERYTHING has its value for him. And if it doesn't, its ready for annihilation. Out of the top dogs of Nazarik, only Albedo and Demiurge share the same Karma value. Even Shaltear is slightly less evil (-450). The important part about this information, is the fact that every time you may THINK that Ainz does something good/nice thats actually NOT the case. He is the purest evil known in this world.

@YaBoyRockLee one thing to remember is the thing Ainz cares most about is his old friends from the guild, and the only thing he has to remember them by is the edgy, prank, joke NPCs they made (have you ever just messed around with character creation and tried to make the ugliest, dumbest thing possible just for fun). So Ainz will do about anything to protect the NPCs and make them happy (including the sadistic stuff they were programmed/written to do). And because the NPCs were just programmed that way, Ainz doesn't fault them for what they are/do (just like he blames himself for Albedo's love for him cause he was the one that messed with her file). So there's a humanity left inside bone daddy, but it's the NPCs>everything and everyone else.

Those chains are magical item to share XP. Even Ains wears one when fighting the workers himself.

the worker's ain't innocent when ainz ask what they doing it for they said for the money. Before the entered the tome they found lots of money the could if pack it up and leave but still went in cause of greed so ainz in his right

I never thought they were evil on this episode. After all, there were a lot of people entering their home to rob it. Is it evil to dispose of them? Sure, there were a rumor about "abandoned ruins", but that's not excuse to rob the place. Besides, if it was "money" what they wanted, there were enough in the small tombs in the exterior, so Ains gave them a last chance to have what they wanted and leave.

I think I commented this when you guys first saw Ainz as a villain too, but migratory of Nazirick have the Evil alignment in their settings (including the Supreme beings). the most extreme evil being at -500 [Ainz, Albedo, Demiurge, etc] -100 being neutral evil [Aura and Mare] -50 to 50 being neutral [Cocytus, Pandora] 100 being neutral good [CZ2128- eyepatch maid] 150 and higher being Good [Yuri Alpha- 150] Sebas is Great good at 300 and 500 being Extreme good which I don't think exists in Nazirick. So yes they are technically villainous but it's just dependent on the POV your looking at.

The chains lower the level of the holder and you gain double XP there testing to see if they work in this world and to get them stronger than level 17-18 for the lizardmen. Ainz-sama using it makes him lower down to about level 90 he is trying to see if he can get higher than level 100 in this world, and he does get an answer to this. He cannot go higher for what he already knows but anything he don’t know he can level like his swordsmanship, intelligence, and other aspects.

I will not portray Ainz as the bad guy, I portrayed Ainz as the ruler. I learned in life that the foundation of a country is people and people create the Law, Law could be so heartless. If you can't win people by using kindness, win them with cruelty and fear. If you want to do and get both kindness and cruelty, then you should become a ruler just like Ainz.

Ah but Demiurge is doing the breeding experiments as a kindness for Sense and Tuare. Remember when Ains was rewarding Sebas he joked about a date and the dog maid teased Sense about a wedding. Everyone in Nazarick is secretly shipping Tuare and Sebas, but Tuare is a human and Sebas is a dragonoid. So Demiurge is doing a good deed for Sebas, really his is, truely. Lol.

He ain't on auto pilot thier is no backstory overwriting him. The only change is he is no longer human and as a undead he has no empathy for living creatures but since he mind and free will are intact he still cares for things and people who are already important to him. He can still develop connections for others but it's vary difficult to in his new undead form. That voice in his head isn't some different personality it's just his inner thoughts.

Bro he's clearly neither the hero nor the villain he's an anti hero. He might have no heart due to him fully becoming an undead but he still has the moral understanding of humans. He doesn't kill without reason, sure there are very evil beings in his rows like Demiurge but also very good ones like Sebas and they aren't allowed to do anything without Ainzes approval. In this instant he warned the raiders multiple times to not do it since they're going to get killed. Hell he even offered them a full chest of pure gold in the beginning without any repercussions to give them a last chance, offer them what they want and let them walk away but they were too greedy. They got what they deserved since they did nothing less than break into his home attacking his guards, people and even himself for his gold. We're just too used to the "good" humans killing "bad" non humans and getting away with everything they do. Now of course his punishment is harsher than what we're used to in our world but they don't have the luxury of our judical system so Ainz has to adapt to his corrupt and rutheless surroundings. In the end he wants to find other players by conquering other lands and letting everybody live freely under his rule regardless of race but with Nazarick as the leading power. Change my mind.

Ainz is a straight up monster. The thing with rationalizing, of having good reasons to do evil deeds is that at some point, it becomes normalized and won't need a good reason--any reason, even a bad one, will be rationale enough for an evil deed.

Ains is definitely evil. But the Workers aren’t innocent either. Even the nicest ones are still trespassing the land of another country and grave-robbing. Not to mention, killing or trying to kill Nazarick’s guards. But Ains definitely went overboard with the torture and torment.

I'm going to tell everybody something about getting urge you know those sheep that demiurge was talking about and his stockyards yeah those are humans and let me give you all a little bit of a understanding of how item creation works yggdrasil and in the New world; say you like cut up a living cow I know that's a horrible thought to go with but this is the only way I can explain it you take the meat off and then use healing magic to return that meat to the cow what actually happens is not what you think it doesn't just replenish the meat with meat that's non-existent what actually happens is the flesh is regenerated but the flesh that you took off vanishes unless you do something drastic to that material then the material will disappear say for example you skin a human alive and that's what those scrolls the demiurge was giving aizs but give me yours was ridiculously efficient in his method say for example you have three adult men you skin too alive then make the skin into parchment and then the third man you cut his arms and legs off and make it into a stew for the other two to eat and him and then use regenerate to bring back his limbs that's what demiurge would do these people
