Nock Fit is such an important part of getting your bow to exceed your expectations. This little part of the arrow plays such a key role in accuracy and repeatability. In this video I walk you through what to look for and what to do to make sure you aren’t going backwards in groupings because of your nock fit.

As important as this is, I’m blown away by how little information is out there on the throat size of nocks. I’ve even emailed some manufacturers, with no luck, asking about the size of their nicks. It seems like it should be as important as the arrow ID information.

I would think some nerd would have a chart by now of string manufacturer, strand count, and serving material cross referenced to nocks by now. Color might even be a factor, I don't know. But that would depend on the nicks being consistent to begin with. I just bought a bag of replacement nocks for some Bohnings on a new set of shafts that don't work on my recurve even after heating and tweaking. So now I have 2 batches of gold tip 204 diamter nocks. the white ones fit snug but not too much, and they are consistent in height (length on the string.) The green ones are loose as a wet paper sack and vary slightly I think in height. I will try to pinch them, but what a bummer. I really like the GT design for trad bows. Meanwhile the Bohning double-click jobbies, I have some that are 5-6 years old and their fit is identical to the brand new ones I just got. Furthermore, the fit of the 204 are the same as the 246 ones. Who would have thought that a person might want to use multiple shaft diameters on one compound bow?

THANKS A BUNCH!!! Checked fit on my Gas string of the 4mm microlite nocks and they are tight, some more than others. The lighted nocks actually fit looser and tried 3 for target practice and at 20 yds all bullseyes, 30 and 40 yards vastly improved. Can't believe I have been battle=ing this issue this long!!! YOU DA MAN!!!!! Blessings

Good teaching segment here. As I learned the hard way, you can have a $0.10 component screw up a $25 arrow. Many dont realize it. Bonus tip, inserts will do the same (screw up the arrow) with broadheads if youre not paying attention.

I can not believe you did this vlog... Over the weekend I was tuning and sighting in and experienced a a "tight" nock throat shot, that went off to who knows where land.. I was stunned... worse. When I nocked on, and I heard the snap. The little voice in my head told me "that ain't good". But I went through with the shot. I had pin adjustment thoughts that pushed forward. I should have slowed down and checked if the nock was biting down or just kissing... this resulted in a lost arrow. John is 100% correct... Throat fit is critical... I learned the hard way

You can buy nocks from other manufacturers that'll better fit your string. Right now i shoot goldtip shafts but the nocks and inserts are from someone else. Just make sure they fit the shaft properly.

I have been shooting the Easton 6.5 with the standard (green) nocks with my Elite Envision and factory strings. 58lbs, 400 spine. Nock is too tight. I used a 3/32 drill bit and a single layer wrap of 320 grit sandpaper and gently by hand (no drill) sanded just the deepest part of the nock. Followed up with a few passes of a thin strip of green scrubby to polish it. For me that seems to work.

I have to do my center serving. Where i got my Levitate. The "bow tech" had my serving splitting from the d loop he tied. Ive been told multiple times from them that theybdont have time to do it and tune my bow right now. They told me to make an appoitment to come in after i shot a few hundred arrows after getting it. And how he tied the Dloop is completely sideways compared to my peep. Pretty disappointing.

That is why my serving is wearing. The nock snaps on too tight but the throat fits good. So if I went down from .021 to .018 should work?? 🎯 better??

Nothing beats a good worn in Beiter or pin nock. Could never really afford to swap nocks. Just wore mine all in. Swap them in practice and have a bunch of extra pre worn in nocks for damage control. I will say that it did create the flat spots and that’s something I have never considered chasing, had too much to chase in my form and mental/biological control. I think it’s definitely something that all bow hunters could benefit from though. Most don’t own a bow press and I’ve seen some crazy D loop angles and peep rotations. With that much twisting preload in the string, it has to be applying a torque to a tight nock on a flat string. I will say that I always press bows a dozen times to get that D Loop perfect with a perfect peep. Now I want to reserve all my flat strings.

Does beiter make a nock for a 4 mil?
@jrhunt414
@jrhunt414 11 ай бұрын
@@gageadams2587 not sure. I know Beiter makes G nocks and X nocks if those fit. My archery brain doesn’t work in metric. Not sure when all this millimeter stuff started. .166 is a G nock. .204 is an X nock. I’d highly recommend ordering a Lancaster Catalog. It has everything in it and has lots of charts and tables.

I even told the shop that built my new string what nock I was using and gave him a narrow and it still came back too tight. Question, now if you're going to use a lighted nock but practice with regular nock and they're not exactly the same would you rather have a tighter fit on a Easton X knock then perfect when you go up to a lighted to hunt or would you rather it fit perfectly on an X nock but be a little loose on the lighted?

Is there at any point an issue with removing material from the nock throat to fit the nock to the string rather than replacing center serving to fit the string to the nock? When I say remove material (no, not with a Dremel) 800/1200 grit emery cloth. I understand the importance of them all being the same weight, the same surface finish and structurally safe enough to be launched from a bow. Curious your thoughts on this.

On the nockturnals my serving fits perfect on the outer nock notch, on the inner notch that activates the light, it’s more snug. Which notch should I base serving size off of since the string ends up in both upon release?

Would to tight of a nock fit allow your string to go past an offset string stop? I have a bear paradox, and after my shot the string is on the front side of the stop, I replaced a with anew rubber same thing any ideas what is causing this?

Dumb question, but is there any benefit to minutely widening the nock to get the proper fit? I get that I’d be messing with a delicate tolerance that could weaken the nock, but if you’re careful would it improve the arrow flight? I acknowledge this isn’t typical decorum. Appreciate the feedback.
