It's been awhile since we've checked out the Noctua C14S Build in the NR200, so let's take a look along with the 5800X. Instead of Noctua vs. Phanteks, we're going to have a little team building exercise today. Along with the cooling performance we will also discuss the importance of the top fan adjacent to the heatsink, as well as the board cooling with the tower cooler vs the top down cooler.

Great watch as always. I only have a 3600 to cool so I keep it simple and use the C14S in its stock high profile setup with just the single 140mm fan attached to the top of the heat sink. It still keeps it under 75c and I prefer not having anything connected to the side panel for easier access during cleaning/admiring. Good versatile cooler and thanks for steering me towards it during your initial NR200 videos.

Thanks for you experiments with the NR200! Love your content! Interesting would be an investigation with the following setup: C14S + RTX3080/3090 Founder's Edition (+ second side panel fan). Also interesting: more (tape) mods for optimized airflow in the NR200.

Been rocking a C14S for more than 2 years now in the Cerberus, am very grateful for your coverage of this beast of a cooler. At more than one point I was considering ditching it but your comparisons vs. U12A kept me on this boat, no one else gives it the benchmarks it deserves. 2 x A14-2000 keeps both my 5900X and 1.5V B-die cool, nothing else comes close on RAM cooling even dedicated RAM coolers. Also helps keeps the PCH and VRM cool on my Impact so can keep those rpms down.

I've been wavering on whether I want to go for an air cooled SFF build again in the future, and had been looking into both top town cooler options and GPU deshroud options. This was a really helpful video on weighing some of those choices. I'm still also considering some similar cases that can be flipped so I can exhaust a GPU deshroud out of the top, and use a normal Air cooler to intake on the side and panel and exhaust out of the back, but seeing the VRM cooling on this top down cooler setup seems pretty worthwhile. And seeing the CPU temps with the GPU deshroud is also pretty impressive. A nice part about the new Phanteks fans is that the extra height can be good for specific setups like this.

I am using all noctua 25x120mm fans. One fan on top (out)Two directly clipped to c14s (sucking in) and two on the bottom(sucking in) I have a 5900x and a 3080 TI. I created a shroud out of heavy black duct tape for the side fan on the c14s. I deshrouded and changed out thermal pads for 3080TI. I cut a square piece of plexiglass to fit the full length and width of case with a hole that exactly matches the radiator on the 3080ti. There are no tabs on my 3080. This seals off the bottom compartment with the two fans and increases the air pressure through the GPU. Very low cpu and GPU temps. Wish I had a 3d printer to do a better job of it like some have done on KZfaq

Your vids helped me plan out my build when I managed to score a manufacturer refurbished 2060 super for a non-scalped price. I settled on the Gigabyte Aorus board with slightly raised CPU socket with a 5600x cooled by a Scythe Fuma2 in an NR200 with a single Fan over the PSU shroud. It's very quiet and cool, but considering the low power draw of the GPU and CPU, that's to be expected. I want to install a 3.5 inch hard drive, but I'm afraid it'll obstruct the airflow of the top exhaust and the tower cooler if I mount it on the PSU shroud. I'm curious to know if you think the presence of a thick 3.5 inch hard drive mounted on the side rail or the PSU would increase the importance of a top exhaust over the CPU cooler on the set up in this vid or in general.

I really enjoy your videos, they honestly helped me when getting my wife's SFF build ready. I'm curious, have you considered using 180 degree PCI-E adapters for your GPU's? I've used some in my builds for a few years now without any power delivery problems, and it really helped clean up the look and cable management of our PC's. I recommend staying away from some of the sellers on Amazon, some of the options available are built poorly. I purchased mine from mod diy. I know this sounds like an advertisement, but it's not. I just think it would add that extra layer of SFF cable management/cleanliness for your builds.

I'm a big fan of C14S , I've set up mine in a push - pull config with 2 NF-A14 PWM with excellent results . It certainly can tame my 3900X . In my DA2 case it's on the limit space wise but works just fine . If it's possible to abandon entirely the side bracket , I believe that you can also use a push - pull config with 2 140mm fans easily . It may improve the cooler's performance a bit more than using the 120mm ones ... Worth a try .

I was considering the c14s in my NR200 but went for the u12a for more headroom. It fits just fine but I cannot fit a 25mm height 120mm fan above it. Had to go with a slim version instead. I removed the rear 92mm exhaust fan and let the u12a blow the heat out the back. My 5900x stays under 70C under prime95 at around 70% rpm.

I deshrouded my evga 3080 with the same heatsink. I had to bend those pins on the heatsink to get the zip-tied fans as close as possible and to actually get improved temps. Fortunately enough the tabs are quite bendable so I can bend them back for RMA purposes etc

After watching your videos 12 months ago I went C14S with just the stock 14cm fan, two slim Noctua at the base, one 25mm Noctua up top, for a 5800x on Gigabyte B550i and eventually a 3080ti Founders. The 5800x is on ECO mode to limit max power on multi-core as CPUs have more than enough performance, and an undervolt for the GPU. Each fan model has an RPM where is becomes audible so just a little work to set fan curves below this until gaming, so with fan stop on GPU & PSU it's an easy system to live with. The CPU and GPU temps pretty much look after themselves, but it's motherboard temps that slowly rise while gaming and ramp up the case fans. I also judge things by the cool-down time - how quickly the system normalises after stopping gaming - and the two bottom fans really help with this.

@@mattlestat2703 There is no problem with the side of the case. The issue is because of the Gigabyte m/b socket position there is no room for a second 25mm fan at the top. I wanted the c14s to draw air from the side as there is an air filter on the side panel but not one at the rear. Cooling a Zen 3 CPU isnt the biggest issue - its moving the air inside the case that gradually warms up because of the GPU - even with a Nvidia FE blowing half out the back. I found two bottom fans and one at the top is enough.

Can you put another 140 fan on the right side of the side bracket as exhaust? I think it may make the cooling better when not doing deshroud, but I am not sure whether there can be some strange effects when two fans next to each other with opposite directions (one as intake and one as exhaust).

Thanks for your great informative videos for building with the nr200. Im looking for some advice on improving cooling for my current system. Like your system i an using an nr200 with the nactua c14s with the included noctua fan attached to the heat sink on the top pulling fresh air in from the side panel. I am running the included smaller case fan exhaust out of the rear and the larger included case fan exhaust out the top front opening. Cpu is i12700kf gpu is rtx3070. The 3070 is stock mounted pulling in air from yhe bottom. When running cinebench multi core i am quickly thermal throttling my CPU (99c and it pulls back the boost). I would like to improve cooling so my setup is no longer thermally limited. I purchased an additional cooler master scicle flow 120 to install in the second top opening above the cpu cooler to exhaust air but that made thermal throttling worse (lower cinebench score). Trying to decide what to try next to improve cooling. Welcome any suggestions.

I'm a big fan of the unbeatable temps with the GPU deshroud and exhaust setup, but as you mentioned, the hot air from a 3080 can be quite annoying. It seems that C14S can achieve better cooling but with quite a number of additional fans and tinkering. Would you recommend a gamer with 12700k+3080 with U12A or C14S?
@ryanlemieux3323
@ryanlemieux3323 Жыл бұрын
C14S is ideal because it isolates heat from the GPU completely, and if you're an 80 class user you are definitely in high TGP territory where the C14S is even more warranted. Also considering motherboards themselves are becoming more complicated to cool, top-down coolers work wonders for cooling motherboard components and RAM as a bonus. Tower coolers like the U12A do not provide these benefits.

I think it depends on if the two fans have similar airflow for the same PWM signal. The cooler fan is a slim one so it’s going to move a bit less air at the same RPM for a typical 25mm fan, so to balance the airflow it won’t have to run as fast. If your case fan is a 25mm fan that tops out at a lower speed then yes, I think it could work, otherwise I’d place it on a separate header- they can run off the CPU temp regardless if they are on the same header or not.
