SMU Ivory Keys is proud to present "A New Start" to our KZfaq audience; our first live annual production since COVID-19! 🌱 Signifying fresh beginnings, emerging from a pandemic-induced slumber, we proclaim that we are here and will be heard once again! We hope you (belatedly) enjoy the night of piano music we shared, spanning classical, pop, and more.
Frédéric Chopin (1810 - 1849) wrote 21 nocturnes in his lifetime for the solo piano. The Nocturne No. 20 in C-sharp Minor is a work composed by Chopin in 1830 and published posthumously. Chopin never wanted to publish it, not because he doubted its artistic quality, but because he composed it only for his sister’s pleasure. The score is dedicated to her: “To my sister Ludwika as an exercise before beginning the study of my second Concerto”. In fact, Nocturne No. 20 is built on themes very dear to Ludwika Chopin, especially those from the Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 21. Nocturne No. 20 was published only in 1870, more than 20 years after Chopin’s death, and for this reason, it is also known under the name of “Reminiscence”. (Medici.tv, n.d.)
Performed by Foo Hai Yang at Annual Production 2022, 28 October 2022.
