Thank you for this educational tutorial. I learned a lot. I did one video using your instructions and then changed it up a bit for a second video by using a magic texture instead of the noise texture, and I added a colour shift along the time line. I also added some music to both videos. I gave you credit when I posted them on my KZfaq channel.

I love playing around with displacement :) Just a quick tip, when you're talking about making it render faster: actually enabling "Denoising Data" makes the render a little slower, while in direct comparison I found that using the Denoise node with or without the Denoising Normal + Denoising Albedo doesn't make much of a difference. So the render could be even quicker if you just use the Denoise node in the compositor without enabling Denoising Data. Of course, on a 10 second like like yours it won't be a big time saver... but a little more complex scenes and especially rendering an animation where those differences add up it might help.

Another way of perfectly looping, which does not require setting it to linear interpolation in the Animation settings, is this driver: (pi * frame/ 'half_amount_of_total_frames') * N 'half_amount_of_total_frames' is self-explenatory, and "N" is the times the loops should occur.

How do you make the rendered image look so crisp? Whenever I try it the icosphere looks low quality and noisy, even before you go on to the compositing it looks clear and smooth but mine just doesnt.

Thank you for the video! But I was really mad at the fact that I had to "guess" the numbers on the wave offset, by looking at the perfect spot. (I'm kinda new to this procedural world) So I went out to the internet and found nothing useful on how to find out the "perfect value" or how to calculate it. Then I just tried a couple of things, and I just found that you can loop it by leaving "0" on the 1st frame, and use "2 * pi * N" on the last+1 frame. N is the times you want it to cycle. Works with any scale of course, hope I helped someone out!

Can you tell me if it reduces rendering time if I take for a particle in a particle system not a 3D cube, but instead a 2D square? Should I take the cube or the square as particle, if the particles are too small to tell what shape it is?

Why in light paths put 1 when you can put 0? Glossy should stay higher, in this case I think, scene doesn't have any metal so diffuse - 0 no glas, no transparency transmission off transparency off, no clouds or smoke, or anything using volume so volume off, correct me if I'm wrong. You could also disable refraction for this render.

I get these weird rough shadow patterns inside of the wave displacement lines, I've tried a lot of things with no avail unfortunately. Do you have any idea how I can fix this? I even tried following the tutorial 3 times total doing it exactly step by step, but I still get the same problem. I tried upping the rendering to level 5 and even 6, but it does not seem to really change anything. It just eats up loads of RAM. Thanks a lot in advance.

This is a great tutorial. I've been messing around a bit and wanted to add emission so that the raised parts emit and the lowered parts don't. I've messed around in the nodes a bit but haven't been able to figure it out yet. Since the displacement is based on color I assume the same can be done for the emission, just not sure how. Any insight will help. Thanks
@indraleonardfrings269
@indraleonardfrings269 2 жыл бұрын
you are completly right! you can use the same color map you are using for your displacement, for the emission. here's how: going out of the wave texture duplicate the color ramp, flip the black and white values and adjust it so you have a harder edge, connect that color ramp node to the emission port of the principled bsdf and adjust the emission strength to your liking. you can change the color of the emission by changing the color in your color ramp. (sorry this is a very late answer, just posting it so people who want to do the same know how to do it)
