NOEL'S E-BOW: Lost Composition Buried In Don't Look Back In Anger (+Tab)

When Don't Look Back In Anger was mixed, the E-Bow track written and performed by Noel Gallagher was mostly buried in amongst the many other instruments, only being prominently featured in the outro of the song.
Join James Hargreaves in uncovering the tab for one of Noel Gallagher's trademark beautiful, simple and melodic lines for the first time.
Apologies, the tab for this solo is no longer available to download.
Presented for educational purposes.

@@theselector4733 He's also borrowed a bit of Ziggy Stardust in DLBIA as well! I think videos like this add to the folklore or whatever you want to call it for songs like this. Rick Beato has a nice video discussing DLBIA as well. I also saw the one on this channel about the 'secret' chord and all of them made me appreciate the song more. I find myself listening to it closely in the car trying to hear and follow each note.

“All the young dudes” clearly an inspiration for the second half of that chorus part. I’ve seen Noel reference borrowing from that song for Don’t Look Back in Anger but not heard the direct ‘influence’ quite so clearly before.

If you listen to the chorus chordal turnaround in All The Young Dudes, he has clearly lifted that directly off the record and put it in Stand By Me from the Be Here Now album also. But hey, he wouldn't be Noel if he didn't nick (and often significantly improve) other peoples songs

I wouldn't say the song Don't look back in anger sounds like 'All the young dudes'....but the ebow definitely does. Now, I just gotta get an ebow because this sounds awesome. Noel really should include this in his life performance, it really adds something

A lot of people call Noel a thief but he was more akin to a modern day sampler who listens to a classic song and makes notes on how it could improve and then uses those notes to make his own songs.

Finally, somebody has acknowledged the Ebow parts on this song! Even Rick Beato missed it on his breakdown of the song a few months ago. It's a proper "hidden gem", I love the interplay with the second harmony part that comes in at around 4:20 on the recording. There's some layered Ebow parts on Champagne Supernova too but they're a little less intricate. Cheers

By a happy coincidence I’ve been learning Don’t Look Back in Anger over the Christmas New Year’s holiday. I’ve always loved it and set my stall out to play it over the holidays. I’ve probably watched every lesson on you tube on it over that time. Your mini series on this track was perfect timing for me. Your secret chord video was especially useful and I now just have to get myself an E Bow. Many people have commented on the All The Young Dudes influence which I do see. Before learning Don’t Look Back in Anger, I learn’t Let It Be including the solo which has always been my favourite Beatles track. I see a huge influence from Let It Be in this track both with the chords and the solo. I love both songs. I think your videos are great and have subscribed. I’ll look forward to the next songs from the requests you asked for. It’s nice to see Layla in the top ten. That’s always been one of my favourite songs.

In the album version once you know what you're listening for it's easy to hear in the bridge sections, but still borderline impossible to hear in the choruses except the last one. @@JamesHargreavesGuitar I think Noel had a strong hand in the mixing especially on Be Here Now. Take Know what I mean as example of that wall of sound approach. It sounded full on at the time but with hindsight was a little over the top. I like the remaster of this, it doesn't lose any of the power but more focused with space for the layers to breathe within the mix.

Hi James! I am one of your subscribers and have been watching this video for months, and I really love what you did! Since you are the only one on the internet that gives the tutorial of the e-bow part of this song (as far as I found), I would like to share this video on another website so that more people can see your creation. I will attach the link of this video and highlight that you are the original creator of this video if I re-upload this. Do you think it's appropriate?

I always thought it was a normal cello or something, great device, I bet you could get some nice pedal sliding sounds using that

yeah, if you layer up the delay, and maybe add in a BOSS Slow Gear effect it sounds incredible

I saw someone mention "All the young dudes" and just for a fun fact im pretty sure Noel/Liam sings the chorus in some version of the song during the outro of Don't look back in Anger. so I thought it was pretty cool to know it was in the background of the original recording all along.

It's competing with the organ .there seems to be a sonic clash...so I understand how it's been reduced or removed in the mix...it has an almost bagpipe vibe cos of the drone it produces
