This isn't a lament, its a ballad The ballad of jane doe is a lament The titles are based off of what they WANTED their songs to be!!

I mean, it can be considered a lament *and* a ballad. The only requirement for a lament is that the tone is one of grief, regret, or sorrow. Someone lamenting. Noel regrets what quote unquote "could have been". If we take it this way, he could be saying what he could've been had his community been accepting, he wouldn't need to wish he were a female or see himself as dirty or overly sexualized for his gayness. Or alternatively, what could have been if he *were* a woman, because he could then love shamelessly. And a ballad is usually just a slow song, written in short stanzas. I will also add that most traditional ballads were written by unknown authors, just passed down through generations by mouth. This ties in with Jane Doe being, well, a Jane Doe. She's the unknown author of her ballad. So you're sorta right, but I think the titles of it being Noel's Lament and The Ballad Of Jane Doe have more meaning than that.

They both sound like Laments. Ballads seem to be mostly about a lover and they sound less bitter. The most modern example of ballads are Korean ballads. This has love as a side story and has a bitter "ah what if" vibe. Where's the love?

this reminds me of the detailed dream i keep having where i live life as a circus performer. i don't remember my name or what i looked like, all i remember about my appearance is wearing a diamond-shaped, white mask(that slightly exposed my mouth) and having dark brown hair. i remember it all so vividly, it hurts. i used to perform on the wheel of death, doing flips, arial silks. i remember laughing with the other performers, going for a drink after a particularly big show. i remember it all. i remember meeting a fangirl after the show, she reached for my mask, 'not yet', is what i remember saying. i had a good life, and then i woke up in the body of a disabled teenager. it hurts. i cant wait to go back to sleep.

Noel would have been obsessed with those turny twisty wattpad fictions and surreal books, or some good old murder mystery wattpad. ( Also in my opinion i think wattpad is way better then AO3 since wattpad has more funny books, and commenters, no offense AO3 user. )

i feel like ao3 it’s easier to find something you like and the word counts are usually longer, the longest I found on wattpad for each chapter was about 1000 words and ao3 beats that by like ten fold and it feels like more of an author-reader connection too infact one of my closest friends I met through ao3 and tehy were an author so… idk, when it comes down to its personal preference at this point so whatever is better 4 u is the one u should read

Just whatever writing/reading app we find first is what we are more comfortable with and thats totally acceptable. I understand if you liek some parts about AO3 better, its just what your preference is. But just pointing out i have seen where theres a lot of author-reader stuff. Like one of my favorites the tea cult, or where someone does news about whats happening and chats with the readers. But in all fairness your, is your choice, also just pointing out again i have seen some pretty long chapters on wattpad. But do whatever you want!
