In the 1840s and 1850s, the music of Felix Meldelssohn was frequently played at the "family concerts" organized at the palace by Spanish Queen Elizabeth II. In these events, in which the members of the royal family themselves actively participated, works by the leading Spanish composers of the time, such as Juan María Guelbenzu or Martín Sánchez-Allú, were also performed.
