As a user of the Nokia 6300 4G, here are my thoughts: - I used this phone for around 2 months now, as some kind of "digital detox" ;) I was waaaay too much on KZfaq and TikTok, and this phone helped me reducing my hours on those platforms immensely, so that's good. :D - the build is surprisingly lightweight and plastic-y. I wouldn't say exactly cheap tho, and you definitly get used to it after some time. (the phone also makes some kind of creak-sounds when you try to bend it, which only adds to that plastic-y feel ._. ) The keypad is great tho (maybe a bit small) and the Navigation-keys are responsive. What i don't like is the position of the power-button and the absence of volume-keys. Idk, but those would be a real quality-of-life-improvement in the long-term. (you always have to navigate to the homescreen just to adjust the volume or screen-brightness and then go back to the app you were on...) - the screen is bad. I have nothing else to say than that.😂 Comming from an 1080p Smartphone-Screen, it was DEFINITLY a BIG downgrade. The viweing-angles are, well… nonexistand. But you definitly get used to it after a week or so, and the colours are actually quite nice and accurate. :) But this phone would benefit from a better screen SO MUCH. - The camera isn't great, but that's to be expected. - I can only recommend to disable LTE/4G in the settings. Like for real. The phone sometimes just randomly disconnects from the Network and does not re-connect before rebooting. This does not happen on 3G/2G, and because the phone doesn't need that much data anyways, it's not that big of an issue. :) (however, there is also a bug on 2G/3G where, when you were connected to WiFi and then switch over to Mobile data, it doesn't automatically use mobile data, you have to enable flight mode, wait until it's disconnected from the network, and then disable it again. It's kinda weird, but then again, you get used to it!! ;) ) - The phone is terrible at remembering WiFi-Networks. It sometimes does, it sometimes doesn't. It has a mind of it's own in a way. :D - The intire OS lags constantly and never runs smooth. It lags when you open the app drawer. It lags when you start an app. It lags when you use the app. It lags when you close the app. I don't think that it is about bad optimaziation, more that of KaiOS's general performance (given on what other people on other devices say). You learn to deal with it, but it is always unpleasant when it accurs (which means everytime when you use the device in any Scenario besides checking the time ;-;). - The battery life isn't what i expected from a feature phone. It lasts around one day of intense usage (about 6h of screen-on time) and 3 days of 'moderate' usage (mixed WiFi-cellular usage ; listening to music ; texting/calling ; playing snake ;) ; checking NokiaMob ; etc.). I did not want to sound too negative in my Round-up tho: I kinda like this device, even with it's quirks and blemishes. It's neither the snappiest (or even snappy at all) nor is it the most 'premium', but it is reliable and helps you to refocus on your life and maybe spend less wasted time on your phone. I also kind of like the design, it is simple but not boring-simple. I do think that the phone is a bit lenghty tho. And the screen is ridicolously small for the size of the phone. The design of the phone really shines when it's looked at from an angle: Then it doesnt seem als 'long' and you can't see the edges of the screen. It's all in all a cute phone (and the Cyan Colour looks soo cool :3).

I have used this daily since february now and only recently am i starting to really get used to it and actually love it. I finally have it the way i want it now as i managed to delete a lot of the bloatware like pre installed games and widgets. Ive finally got used to turn based navigation on google maps, its actually quite easy and not at all as confusuing as i thought ... i just needed to adjust the way i use it. I have deleted my facebook account and opted to use whatsapp to stay in touch with people. whatsapp is a pleasure to use on it, and i managed to get my icloud emails via the email app which is handy. i have all notifications turned off for text messages and whatsapp, and only check my messages when i want to. calls still come in normally tho ofcourse. pretty much my only critisim left at this point is that often when you close an app like google and reopen it then it dosn't save the tab or anything you had open, even if it was closed for like a second say if you needed to check something on another app. honestly yeah this is frustrating but hey if its frustrating to use then youll use it less aye. thats how i looked at it :D

That's a good video! I'm a Japanese writer. The name is ``Mikan Oshidari(忍足みかん🍊)''. I'm writing a book called ``I Want to Quit Being a Smartphone Slave.'' I switched to a flip phone because of my smartphone addiction. It's all about mental health. I no longer get tired of smartphone screens, notification sounds, and unnecessary connections. It's comfortable. Only the really necessary communications will come to your flip phone. There is no inconvenience. I think flip phones should be reevaluated more globally. Thank you for the wonderful video.

I've gotten one after watching your video and doing more research. I struggled for the first 2 days having come from a smartphone, but its now been a month and I love this phone! Here is why it's working for me: 1. Its super minimalist yet practical I really love how this is an essentialist's phone. There is nothing on it that you do not need. I've went a step further and made sure im not connected to any Google services (so i dont get KZfaq or G search recommendations - highly addictive and no good!). The keypad forces you to slow down which helps you write shorter, more to the point messages. The limited Google maps feature encourages you to pay more attention to road signs (and it's helped me navigate roads better). 2. It's a conversation starter I love taking this phone out. When people ask me about it, it allows me to tell them about how this is helping me gain control of my phone, not the other way around. Even when they dont ask me, I make sure to bring up the topic so they know XD 3. It's a reminder to stay calm This one is huge for me. Unlike how having a smartphone in sight is already a distraction - notifications, anxiety, etc - having this nokia in sight is a constant reminder that ... there's nothing on it! It brings an instant feeling of peace and makes you focus more on the task (or break) at hand. 4. It is effective It makes calls, and sends messages. 5. It helped me connect more with people Due to the typing being laborsome, it encourages me to have more phone calls, and send more voice notes on whatsapp, or even arrange to meet them in person. All which helps me connect with others better than texting. I recommend this phone. I may "upgrade" to the 2720 flip as i have large hands and those buttons seem a bit bigger, but im a happy nokia revert :)

I have this phone as a backup phone . My only gripe is that KaiOS is so slow on the quad-core processor that the phone is running .Especially for the internet browser , youtube and so on . I wonder if KaiOS can collaborate with Opera to revive Opera Mini ( in the style of data compression servers , J2ME version ) for KaiOS ; it will be a game changer .

I write a fair amount, and when its time for that, I use a laptop - I've got to have a keyboard. So I use a phone as a phone these days (shocking, no?), The 6300 [unlike most smart phones] slips in the pocket comfortably and is not a bother. That in mind, the ability to use wifi or hot spot [the latter being problematic to 3g design], this phone meets my needs perfectly. The backlit keys are a nice touch too. Delete the fakebook app [your information is theirs], and off you go... The only con is perhaps a bit nit picky: the unit converter app needs expansion. Torque would be a good addition. The old N900 [Maemo system] was feature rich at release by comparison, but telco's have pushed 3g off the map in the US. I think T-mobile officially buries it on July 1st, and other carriers are already gone. When Nokia uses Linux, good things happen - the 6300 is holding up well for me..

There's a lot to say for going minimalist, and I like how this phone tries to go for it. 3 quick questions: How do you program the multi-fuction key? And what are the possible actions it can be programmed to do? There is nothing in the User Guide about this. is there an option for any-key answer? I don't have time at the moment but I do intend to post my detailed feelings about this phone as a separate comment. For now I'll just say: my 82 year old mother likes it but I found it to be a nightmare to set up for her and find it to have a very cheap build quality. I find it hard to imagine using this phone unless I wanted to make and receive phone calls and do nothing else. That would make the target demographic seniors but in my opinion there is no way an elderly person could set up this phone on their own. But my mom saw this phone and it reminded her of her beloved Nokia 2126 and 2285 phones and so we'll see what her experience is in the coming weeks of using it. I don't mean this to be a rant against Nokia feature phones, it's just my experience with setting up the 6300 4G. In its favor I can say that if KaiOS were ditched and the build quality improved my assessment of this phone would be much more positive. I just discovered your review of the N9 and if I'd known about it at the time I would have jumped to buy it immediately based on your review.

Excellent review. I looked at this but waited and bought a much cheaper TT 240 phone from Amazon UK. It also comes with KaiOS. I'm trying to detox from smartphones . WiFi and WhatsApp are a must it's just learning to adjust. For a home phone we use an 8110 4g, it's fine. The challenge is accepting smartphones aren't the problem....it's me and predictive text is challenging to say the least. If I like the OS on a daily basis I'll get something like this but I'm my opinion I think what concessions will I have to make to use a feature phone? Am I prepared to get a proper camera out all the time for family moments. I like the look of this phone a lot, time will tell.

I was going to get one of these but your review and some of the comments have put me off now. Definitely don't like the fact they haven't put volume buttons on. Also, that raised power button could easily get pressed by mistake. Why do manufacturers always spoil things?

I actually like this phones design I think it looks clean and neat. But... I wished they hadn't put Kai OS on it imo of Kai it's slow, laggy and a battery burner! Also I believe they have removed a bunch of stuff on the new version of the OS which is not applicable to this device as I don't think it will get an upgrade. Pitty I would of got one if it wasn't for the Kai OS. I would like HMD to bring a premium feature phone to the market with a good camera, battery and functions of a smartphone minus the touchscreen I would definitely jump back on the older keypad style as I prefer it.

Bro KaiOS is still evolving. Its like judging Android KitKat in 2022. They're focused in optimizations and had made a great improvement with recent V3 update. Maybe it'll become too much battery efficient in future just like S40 😉

Yeah man! I'm really tired of this line of thinking, like ".just because these are feature phones, they need to be dumb and be made of plastic" Remember Nokia 8800 Arte? Now that's a premium phone, the hull made of gold, scratch resistant diamond screen, ringtines composed by a japanese composer - it aint cheap but it shows how far you can go when you're making a phone. Even the original 6300 was famous for having a good screen, camera and both hull and keyboard made of stainless steel. Where's anything that made it special here?

@@bruhSaintJohn These phones are just shit, the whole feature phone market has gone backwards even a sony ericsson feature phone are streets ahead of these bloody things and they were out like way over 10+ years ago! I had a Sony Ericsson Elm it was one of the best feature phones I had was brilliant and the 5mp camera was very good it was priced up the same as these terrible things.

@@bruhSaintJohn There seems to be a stigma attached to all these feature phones today and that is they have to be billy basic and made from crap materials which is not the case

Hi, great video, and great content on the channel. A quick question: from an out-of-box experience, which was your favorite - The Nokia 6300 4g or the Nokia 8000 4g? Cheers and Thanks

Thank you! Hard to say. I love the looks of the 8000 but I think the 6300 is easier to live with because it's design is practical and it's keypad is a lot more comfortable to use

A better operating system, screen a little bigger, a 2MP or 5MP camera and it would be the perfect phone. It's already looking good, but HMD needs to do a little more to make it more interesting.

@@tweedpenguin712 A Sony Erisson K770i back then had a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, should be possible on a feature phone these days. It's a big device where a slightly larger display would have fit, otherwise it's a great and beautiful phone. My point is not that I want more, but that HMD optimises and customises such feature phones. If I want more, I'll buy a smartphone anyway.

I wanted a feature phone that I could use to briefly access the internet during occasional power outages so I bought the Nokia 225 4g because it had a browser. I like the phone but the browser is completely useless with most (if not all) modern websites. Would this browser work any better using a non wifi signal?
