More rock musicians can't read musical notation than can read it. Rock is essentially an oral tradition where parts are learned by ear and memorized. At least in that aspect, it qualifies as folk music.

@@nealm6764 And yet orchestral percussion sections and Big band jazz both have drum/percussion sheet music that uses slightly modified quarter notes and so on, and even uses the same staves and has a distinct clef marking. Neil Peart was Julliard trained and Carl Palmer did time in an orchestra, so it does happen. Just not as often as the other way around. Given that Bill Ward was hugely into swing jazz before playing rock, and was a big fan of Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa I could believe he could read a drum chart, or that he learned by ear. Either way he's awesome.

It's got something to do with when people sing they tend to make bigger sound that releases more air that in turn makes people stress syllables a lot more and a lot more clearly then their normal speech. This is also the reason some non American singers might sound American when they sing. It's always blown my mind with Ozzy to.

I love all genres of music, but those 2 games helped me put titles to sounds so much. I had heard the songs, knew the bands by name, but didn't know that they made those songs. Video games have done so much for spreading genres of music across generations. Aside from GH and Rock Band, I think Skate and the Tony Hawk games have introduced people to genres and eras they never would have otherwise explored.

BS's run of albums from self titled debut Black Sabbath to Sabotage are amazing. There's a few only "ok" songs in there but, mostly magic. Sabbath songs can change on a whim. "Symptoms of the universe" breaking into lovely soliloquy with Ozzy singing his heart out at 4:12 after listening to what was the first example of "death metal" I can think of. "The Writ" setting the ominous mood and erupting into anthem. "Jack the Stripper" after a minute intro gets to rocking. "Planet Caravan" is soft and slow creating images of traveling the darkness of space and was covered beautifully by Pantera with a cool video which I saw for the first time at 2am in my room in the 90s as a teenager possibly altered a tiny bit when MTV still played music videos. "The Wizard" is an amazing song which is covered recently excellently by Brown Sabbath a Mexican Black Sabbath tribute band. It's great. Shoot,I could go on and on as I'm sure most of the commenters can. "Changes" is another great Sabbath song. Charles Bradley covers that beautifully. Just push play on any of those albums and let it play whether it grabs you right away or not. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. It's great workout music too.
