Whether you're considering a career change or taking a break from clinical medicine, it can be overwhelming figuring out what to do next. I spoke to as many people as possible and did a lot of research when applying to new jobs. In this video, I share a list of 5 non-clinical career paths and opportunities worth exploring for doctors in this boat. Highly recommend #1 and #5!
There are many opportunities out there if you keep an open mind and take action. Don't be afraid to pave your own path and never limit yourself. The possibilities are endless.

When you said “medicine will always be there for you” I felt that. Truly you can try other endeavors but you’ll always have medicine as a safety net.

If you're looking into management consulting, I mentioned companies like McKinsey, Bain, and BCG. They advertise positions for medical students and doctors on their careers page. If you do a quick google search you can find opportunities like this one for doctors --> www.mckinsey.com/careers/search-jobs/jobs/physicianconsultant-valuebasedcare-49397 and this one for medical students --> www.mckinsey.com/careers/search-jobs/jobs/mdfellow-19597. Depending on where you live, do a bit of research on the companies that you want to work for in your local area and reach out to them.

Hi Le Le! Very informative video! I am currently looking into getting a masters in management degree to change my career. I’m a recent medical graduate and I’m not interested in clinical practice at all. Do you think an bachelors in medicine and a masters in management would be a good combination ?

Hi Vivian, I think that's a great combination of skills to have! The best thing you can do for yourself is to get job experience (ie. internship, entry-level position) in whatever field you want to pursue. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions!

Hi Judith, you need to figure out what kind of role you want first! I didn't know what I wanted to do in the beginning but I did a lot of research and spoke to different people in health tech to figure out what I would be interested in and how I could best utilize my skills and expertise. I haven't completed an MBA, so I cannot speak from personal experience. However, some colleagues I know who pursued an MBA have mentioned that they wish they had obtained a degree in a more specialized field or skill.

Hi Joe, I have looked into McKinsey, Bain, and BCG, but these are quite competitive and tend to only accept IVY league candidates. I'd look into smaller consulting companies and work my way up :)
