Okay, so this is gonna be a long comment so bear with me! “Blood Sweat & Tears” is the title track of one of their albums called “WINGS” (2016). This particular song and entire album uses a plethora of references that link to one book: “Demian” by german writer Hermann Hesse. This book tells the story of a young boy named Emil Sinclair and his childhood growing up during pre-World War I. He struggles to find his new self-knowledge in the immoral world and is caught between good and evil. Already we have some clues as to what this song/MV is about: the battle between good and evil and temptation. The video opens up with the members in a museum; notice how Jin, the oldest, stands alone. He is gazing at the painting called “The Fall of the Rebel Angels” by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. (good angels fighting Lucifer/evil angels fallen from Heaven). He is about to beggin his journey towards finding his true self and identity. On the left&right, there is a white and a black door, which represent the paths Jin can go on: the good side and the evil side. Now, If you notice at 2:16, Jungkook is on a swing, and behind him is the painting called “The Lament for Icarus” by Herbert James Draper. Jungkook is representing Icarus troughout the whole video. (V also represents Icarus but in a different form). The swing could represent Icarus being safe, the Icarus following orders (he is supported by a swing). Later we see a drop of wax dripping on JK’s finger (3:15) which he then puts in his mouth (temptation). This is a representation of the fall of Icarus and foreshadows what will happen to him later in the video. The painting in the back also foreshadows his death. (more about this below) At 4:25, V is representing Icarus but also a fallen angel (this scene can also symbolize the fall of Lucifer: he rebelled against God and fell from grace, tempting more angels to do so in the process, thus connecting to the painting at the beggining “The Fall of the Rebel Angels”, maybe this is why he smirks after he falls down the balcony). Behind him we see the painting “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus” by Pieter Bruegel the Elder. This scene represents the death of Icarus (he ignored his father’s warning about flying too close to the sun, until the wax that kept his wings attached to his body melted…and he falls to his death-again we have the theme of temptation-Icarus falling to temptation). But…at 4:42/4:49 we see Jungkook again, but this time he is floating. He in this scene is dead, and him floating represents how Icarus started “floating” in the water after he drowned, connecting V’s and JK’s scenes. We also see feathers floating around and on the floor as well (being underwater). So the whole Icarus imagery in this MV comes in like this: stage 1: We see JK on the swing, Icarus being alive; stage 2: V/Icarus falls off the balcony; stage 3: The painting in the background (“Landscape with the Fall of Icarus”) foreshadows JK/Icarus when he is floating/drowned (him being dead/underwater); stage 3: the painting behind JK (“The Lament for Icarus”) foreshadows V/Icarus having no wings on anymore which is the final stage (2:16/2:28, 3:15, 4:25, 4:42/4:49, 8:04). Now, the kissing scene. (BTW, RM is reading a paragraph from “Demian” at 5:11, if you didn’t read the book, you will not get it sadly) During the interlude of the MV, all the members run towards the exit except for Jin and V. If you notice, Jin has a very confused and scared look on his face while V blindfolds him. After that a white statue with black wings appears: this statue represents the god Abraxas-the deity is a representation of good and evil, it is not good or evil, it is both (good and evil into the same word). After that, Jin walks closer to it, takes a look at it then kisses it. This scene represents how Jin has finally embraced both good and evil into himself (by kissing Abraxas), thus destroying the world of innocence he has lived in prior to this. We then see V with his wings cut off, giving a smile to the camera (him smiling could symbolize that Jin’s growth is complete, and he finally accepted chaos into himself which leads to self betterment-theory of Carl Jung: accepting your shadow). Again, Icarus but also a fallen angel. So this whole MV is revolving around Jin most of the time, he is the main protagonist of this MV (his path to adulthood, maturity and acceptance of an evil realm). The quote above the mirror at 8:34 is written in German (belonging to philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche) and translates as: You need to have chaos in yourself in order to give birth to a dancing star” basically meaning that if you don’t accept chaos (evil) into yourself, you will not be able to grow to your full potential. At the end of the MV we see the old version of Jin, the one that was pure and innocent cracking, there is no chaos in him and so he cannot give birth to the dancing star. There is so much I didn’t say here, you’ll have to watch the explanation on KZfaq to trully understand how everything connects because trust me, this whole thing is cohesive and connects, I just told you the main things of this MV but not specifically how everything connects! The song is about sacrificing everything to achieve your deepest desires, be it, love, success, or anything else; As for BTS , the composition reflects the band’s willingness to pursue their dreams to the fullest despite having to deal with the dark temptations that come their way.

It seems that quite a few people aren't familiar with the entertainment industry. One of the biggest misconceptions that I continue to see is the makeup thing. Everyone in the entertainment industry wears makeup. I mean performers, obviously not agents, managers, directors, writers and so on. Your favorite rapper, singer, actor or even athlete in a commercial is wearing makeup. It's usually very light and sometimes may just be something to keep the glare from set lights from reflecting off their faces or something to cover a blemish such as pimple or birthmark. Not all makeup has to be bright eyeshadow or blush.

This is about the book “demian” and the journey of temptation . BTS don’t just make music about love, booty, money, fake or lust… they tell their stories and wrote and produce on all their music and have since the very beginning. Their discography is far over 200 just for the group and that’s not counting solo works, mixtapes, collabs or sub units. There are no simple songs and videos in BTS bc everything is involved with the storytelling and you’re not supposed to get the whole point of everything in one watch. It requires imagination, brainstorming and looking beyond the surface to see the message.

I hope you read the comment below regarding the explanation of this song. BTS music is not what you think their lyrics have deep meanings to every song. The BTS Universe is no joke once you start down this rabbit hole you want to learn more. The book DAMIEN which they reference this particular story line from can be purchased on Amazon for about 6 dollars. It was a very good read and help me to understand and reflex about the good and bad that happens in life. Yes they do wear makeup as do any artist that goes on stage and perform, but they have really excellent skin and don’t look their age. As a Friend once said Asian don’t raisin and black don’t crack. They look just as good without the makeup if not better.

David Bowie in the 70s. 80s hair bands and all the pop bands like Duran Duran, etc. This music video draws on themes from a book by Carl Jung. There's probably a video that explains it. A good source in general is DKdktv which does a series "Explained by a Korean" but not sure if they have one for this particular video. Also, check out the song "Idol" which has African beats mixed in.

Yes the guys are wearing makeup. That is a typical thing in kpop and the music industry is wearing makeup just like anyone else who works in the music and entertainment industry in the west as well. TV hosts wear makeup, actors wear makeup in screen, Broadway, singers male and female as well. In kpop for men it's more for aesthetic purposes in the video.

Anybody who gets in front of a camera as a profession wears makeup - actors, musicians, newscasters. If you're asking about beauty makeup, like eyeshadow or lip color, then yes. They wear that, too. Depending on the concept of the song, they will wear different clothes, different hair, different makeup. This song is about giving into temptation, and the concept is almost like sexy vampire, and the makeup matches that. If you watch grittier videos, the makeup also changes and becomes darker and less beauty-leaning. Hope that helps!

They… just like every person in the entertainment industry , of course wear makeup on camera… I mean that can’t be a serious question right? It would be a bit ignorant to expect anybody that is on camera to not have some sort of makeup on lol it’s literally part of the job. The beauty standards in Korean culture are VERY different than western culture… and they wouldn’t be caught dead in a lot different of fashion or styles we have here. However , again these are artists and camera and stage makeup come with the territory… just how it’s used may differ from place to place based on trends and societal expectations. I find it slightly concerning that it’s even being questioned… does it matter ?

They are singing about a relationship that isn't good/toxic, but they can't escape it because if the temptations or infatuation that exists. The music video is about evil vs good and the choices made in life, Jin chose to walk towards the winged figure, presumably lured there by lucifer and then has to live with the consequences -craked face at the end symbolizing his destruction. This is from their Wings album.

You should watch [ A Guide To BTS: The Bangtan 7 ], it tells you about every member what they do in the group and how they got to where they are now, it's updated to May 2022. It is a long video but honestly its worth watching it. So the music video has no official story, but we fans have theories and I’ll tell you mine So in 2 songs before Blood sweat and tears, there’s a song called “I need u” The member Jungkook was bullied and he was killed in a car accident, the members Jimin and Jhope had drug addictions and were hospitalized , Suga had depression, RM had an smoking addiction, Jin’s reason is a big unknown and the member V had an abusive father who abused him and his sister, V had enough and broke a Soju bottle (alcohol) and stabbed his father many times and killed him. In the next music video, called Run, Jungkook was dead and from what I saw, Jin, who was maybe jealous of V’s youth, pushes him off a bridge and drowned him, because Jin always saw V drowning, and later on, Jin killed himself Now, in blood sweat and tears, V is the devil, or Lucifer, because when he killed his father, he sinned, he was before an angel but when he killed his father, he became an fallen angel (like Lucifer) and when he died, he became an devil. All the members then appeared between the bridge of good and evil, innocence and impurity, since V loved all the members like brothers and didn’t want them to suffer, his task was to make all the members sin so they can go to the evil side, where they would get everything they wanted, including eternal youth. Jungkook and RM fell to V first, because they either drank (RM) or ate (Jungkook) something green, which usually means envy, so they sinned first. Next it was Jhope, because he tried to save V’s soul, but he couldn’t so he fell into V. Next was Suga and Jimin, Jimin was sitting in front of Suga, and he was holding an apple, which means sin and temptation, but Jimin and unsure, Suga, who was corrupted by V, didn’t want Jimin to suffer by staying innocent, so he covered his eyes, meanwhile V, who corrupted Suga, jumped out the balcony. And then, the members all had sin and went to the evil side except Jin, who was very hesitant, but V saw that and closed Jin’s eyes and showed Jin’s greatest desire, wings (Which means youth and freedom) specifically, V’s wings (Which the wings were the reason V died in the first place) Jin obviously gave in and kissed ‘V’, but instead of getting what he wanted, he started cracking like porcelain, which happens when something breaks or gets old, and the members, including V were fooled by themselves, and the song ended. Again, this is my theory💜
