I used your mask making process made a few changes. Used Kevlar instead of fiberglass mat it was very effective applying multiple layers and adding Kevlar panels to the outside. Basically used your steps for making a mask got a few ideas from Devtac ronin mask. Came out great stops 22 357 and 12 ga. Also the Fiberglas resin mixed flexible Fiberglas resin to keep flexibility. Keep up the good work... Your videos are very inspirational.

Also, just a tip - WEIGH THE MIXTURE. If you get the ratio wrong and don’t put enough hardener, the resin won’t cure. I learned this the hard way - it’ll stay in a liquidated state and won’t cure if the catalyst (hardener) isn’t the proper ratio.

Advice: if you want the mask to extend over the ears for paintball/airsoft just double layer the sides of the ears when using the clay are do one layer and make a hole above the ears to put ventilation(thick steel mesh) so you can hear when wearing the mask.

If you're worried about the ear thing, a balaclava would add some protection and make the aesthetic of the mask look even better.

@F3EDER8 жыл бұрын
austin garrett Been doing this a few times now and as long as the clay is soft it is okay to skip the enamel. But it is wise to be sure that you have proper draft angles or you might have a problem getting the clay out of the mold.

Yo Eli. If you want to fix that glue issue get some really fine grain sand, I'm talking the finest grain you can get your hands on. The kind that you might need a respirator for. And mix that with some toothpaste. it just works well because you can use some cheap kind and it has the right consistency to keep the sand together. You take your newly mixed abrasive paste and you use that to clean up the edges of your plexiglass.

ZodiacHD Really just followed the steps in the video, same ingredients and everything, just the harness (the strap part that holds the mask on your face) I made myself out of an old backpack. If english is not your native language, which is what made the build harder for me, the "Bondo Body Filler" stuff is the putty you use to fix dents in cars, the fiberglass resin (along with fiberglass mat) should be found right next to body filler in every well sorted hardware shop. You don't need any specific brand. I am currently making the Wolf mask too, just got done sculpting the clay when I saw your comment. Just a pro tipp if you are gonna make a mask too: DO NOT cut corners when sculpting the clay. Fixing details you missed at the sculpting are a bitch and a half to fix with sandpaper and additional body filler.

+MightyPootisFish When you were sculpting the clay for your mask did you sculpt it while using the styrofoam head or no? i'm trying to decide if i should sculp the mask first and then put it on the styrofoam head.
@MegaHellstrike9 жыл бұрын
I did not use a styrofoam head at all, I instead made a plaster cast of my own face (my sister helped with that, but you could even do that without another person) which I then casted with regular plaster from the hardware store. It's really cheap to make and can be easily reused for the next sculpts. A thing to note though is to put lubricant onto the model of your face before putting the clay onto it, otherwise the clay will stick to it and you have to scoop out the mold which brings the risk of the mold breaking. Also, put lubricant onto the finished clay sculpt, it will help you a ton getting it out of the mold.

Because it’s made of fibreglass it would probably stop a .22 or a .25acp but if you really want to beef it up you could use Kevlar fabric instead of fibreglass, you can get Kevlar pretty cheap online, if you use Kevlar and resin like this it would probably stop a 9mm or .45acp obviously you would need more padding because of the impact and deformation

Suggestions to.make the end result better for your ears and better finish on lenses: make a mold of your own face and include your ears in this with plaster strips. Then mold with plaster of Paris in the face traced mold. Now with your "true face copy" you can build up your mask surface as before BUT plan for you protective lenses/goggles + headstraps at this stage so theycan be inserted without spoiling the finish when assembling. The end result will look turn out better for you then. Both for the eyes and the ears

Something I need to point out is that if you're going to use this for paintball, you either need to modify the design so it will accept a lense from an actual paintball mask or check with your local field because with paintball, masks have to meet certain specifications and have to be tested by a group to be allowed for use and most fields won't let you use it because their insurance won't cover your injury. I bought a similar mask online and the ref said it'd be fine for airsoft, but they can't afford to get sued because my mask broke.

Definitely using this technique to make a Borderlands psycho mask. I don't know why people prefer to buy masks online....unless they're begging to have their personality scream "I'm plain" or "Too lazy to try something worthwhile" . The amount of times I've seen people wear obviously cheap masks is unbelievable. Cheap masks are a dime a dozen and look it. As for a personalized, handcrafted mask, what could be better?! It gives you the right to brag about your creativeness! So, to those bashing this guy for actually putting an effort into something he's created from an idea to a finished product; I'm sorry, but I just don't get you. Unless your either just that jealous because you can't make the mask or lazy because you don't want to take the time to make something you can take pride in. Cheers!
