That’s the trunk’s “soft close” mechanism, where you softly close the trunk lid one click and the electric motor draws it down the rest of the way, so you don’t have to slam it. The whole strike plate pops up when the trunk is opened, and retracts when it senses the lid is closed. Definitely a staple on old these old Caddies and Lincolns - probably appeared on Imperials too, I’m just not well versed in those. Newer luxury cars incorporate the same idea in the doors as well, if you’ve ever seen that.

These type projects need a small Mom & Pop business on East Coast doing sand mold castings in recycled 316 steel. So to rust and salt proof these cars. Affordable and Just a fun bunch of people who like being there as a esoteric niche for a bunch of grease monkeys who won't let these behemoths die. They are beautiful cars and a lot of American ingenuity, blood sweat and tears went into em. A Mom and Pop shop that makes drop in and tac weld flooring, rockers and body parts. Spray resin cold, rust, and salt resistant insulation. Powerwash sprayable. For people to really value it. Make it open ended. Not exclusively a full service. Shop should keep molds from all jobs and just build a library where the project could be simple as the refurbisher renting the body part mold and spraying fiber glass or refurbished rubberized plastic prints themselves. Then you get original body integrity of true chasis, engine and trans, but with lighter (higher fuel efficient, better range for hybrid, or electric conversions). Stregthen the body but keep it lighter than a modern full size pick up. Put on a tow package and install seating that folds front & back seat into a bed, with still under bench storage space. Modern power brakes and seat belts. Maybe a salvage lift kit to get it a bit off road and a horn that plays Marty Robbin's El Paso.

Hello Chris and Jen. Well the Engine does sound real good compared to how the car looks.. On the truck mechanism , when all of that is working properly you never want to slam the trunk lid closed. Just close it gentle until you hear it latch and then the mechanism will draw the trunk lid down and tight.

This car is sure to be amazing after a proper restoration. These American ships have an impressive personality of their own. Here in Europe, specifically in the Czech Republic, these cars are rare

That would be a fine candidate for a complete restoration, the price you mentioned seems pretty fair considering the fact that you've driven it around and it runs and drives and stops. Great video Chris and it's always nice to see the animals happy 👍✌️🇺🇲
