Taarukk (Meaning Star in Kashmiri Language) is an Kashmir based online talk available on all Platforms online like KZfaq, Facebook, Instagram by Entrepreneur Mohammad Munawar Khan, who has been associated with various Startups and Media Groups. First expecting airing on Sept 11, 2020, it will be first of its Kind talk show in Kashmir.
In the very First Episode of Taarukk, Season 1 our Guest is renowned Kashmir Folk Singer Noor Mohammad Shah with Mohammad Munawar Khan
Noor Mohammad Shah our First Guest, famous in every household for his heartening voice and love for Kashmiri music describes how he earns his livelihood by singing door to door.
He began his journey as a musician at Sufi saint Samad Khan’s house when he was nine years old. He recalls his love for music as something which always inspired him to take this as a full time career. He helped his father financially through singing. He used to play “nout” and used to listen to radio and this gave him his initial learning.
Noor has also been a part of many troupes who sing at mehfils and weddings. He later mastered in rabab and now he can beautifully play nout, rabab, harmonium, sarang and duff.
He then left these groups and continued the musical journey on his own. He plays at many event and mehfils and has also even sung at roadsides to feed his family.
While narrating his journey filled with hardships, he says how the respect is not being given to folk music in Kashmir.
We hope he and every artist like him gets the respect and honor that they deserve.
