In my excitement, i didnt really clarify...yes im biased in my love of house music and no its not the most ORIGINAL song in the world BUT, let’s not forget ESC will be in the UK this year and house music is one of the most listened to genres there, so no I don’t think it’s a winner but i think there is some more potential in this entry than meets the eye 😅

In Belgium we listen to a lot of this kind of music. Personnaly i love it and i'm happy with the choice of my country. I wanted to dance and smile and this song fits very well !

I did watch the whole show and I actually think that Gustaph does deserve his flowers. The energy he brought to the live performance was super fun, the vocals were spot on, the visuals and staging were right for the song… fun but not too distracting… and his energy in general throughout the whole show was so full of light. He is going to be a very good representative for Belgium. In my opinion Chérine placed 4th because the staging was unpolished, distracting, and didn’t fit the song. She has so much charisma alone on that stage and didn’t need all of the set pieces and costumed people on stage with her. It was frustrating to watch unfold as she really killed it in the teaser performances but didn’t hit the mark on the night of. Gala also had a very good performance but her song was a little bit too experimental and dark for mass appeal. The Starlings placement and public vote win shocked me. It was a safe bet but I personally could not get into the cliche lyrics. “Carnival” was also good but a lot going on staging wise that kept Ameerah from performing her best… “Ooh La La” was fine but ultimately nothing new… same with “You Lift Me Up”… I was rooting for either Gustaph or Chérine, so I’m thrilled.

I can see the party in Liverpool when he performs ... and think about the Eurovision concert tour .. He will turn it up !!!

Gustaph has been a background singer his whole life. He has worked with practically every artist in Belgium and also abroad. He's a professional voice coach too. He has been on the Eurovision Contest twice before as a background singer. And his two background singers are the top in Belgium. Those ladies are awesome!

If "Miss You" (Belgium last year) was able to qualify even without jury support, then this definitely has a chance in my opinion. We'll have to see what other songs will be selected before counting Gustaph out. Out of the 3 songs we do have so far, I have listened to this the most already.

I don't know the other fans but I like the songs. We really need energetic songs instead of slow ones. I actually like energetic songs and good luck for Belgium ❤

Not the best choice but certainly not the worst! Like most of the fandom, I also wanted Cherine or even Gala to represent Belgium this year but I can't say I'm terribly disappointed with this result. The song is really not as bad as people are saying, they are all shocked because this was such an unexpected win and their favs all lost. Once the initial shock of the results goes away I think people will accept and appreciate this bop more 🔥🕺

Hi Noosh! The Starlings finishing second can be explained by the fact that they are extreeemely popular in Belgium. People didn't really vote for the song but for the duo. If they had picked their other song "Oceanside", they would have definitely won! They came second with a very bland song, "Oceanside" was a masterpiece. As a belgian, I was cheering for Ameerah and Cherine but in the end, I'm happy with our winner. It was so unexpected! I was actually in the audience during the final and people went crazy over the performance of Gustaph, everyone was dancing, that was so much fun!

The starlings were second because before Eurosong they already were very very popular in Belgium and they have a lot of fans so they just voted for them but the staging was nice too. Cherine did less well bc her inears didn't work so you could see she was nervous while singing. Her staging was questionable but the song is still amazing. I did expect Gala or Cherine to win but the voting site was also down and a lot of votes did not go through. So who knows what would have happened if it did. anyway I believe Gustaph manifested this haha and I am happy for him.

Interesting fact: Gustaph was one of the regular vocalists for Hercules and Love Affair. For anyone not familiar, they are a proper dance act, critically acclaimed and with the songs to back it up. They are the type of band that music nerds like me love, not because we're trying to be snobbish or look down on people with different tastes, but because their music resonates with us on a deeper level than Lady Gaga. More than just a "backing singer" (nothing wrong with that though), he co-wrote and sang on Hercules songs such as "Do You Feel The Same?" and "That's Not Me", which are classics in my opinion. If you like house music, and haven't heard much of Hercules and Love Affair, you should really check them out. I'm excited that an artist of this caliber will be performing - you just can't argue with it, and it's such a welcome respite from the whole "smalltown boy in a big arcade" formula, which keeps getting pushed forward. So many young men singing about how tortured they are personally because that's what's in fashion. Glad this got chosen though.

I almost threw my tv out of the window, just like in the good old days when other surprising acts grabbed the win and went to dissapoint us all on the big day... He can absolutely sing and seems to be a nice guy, and despite I also grew up with floor filling dance acts like his I think Ameerah, cherine and gala where by far the better options to succes. I voted for Gala, but Ameerah's act was top notch. If you would see this you can simply not believe this guy made it... I ll support him, but too disappointed for now..

The starlings are apparently very popular in Belgium, which might be why they got so many points even with Rollercoaster... (plus, their staging was very simple but worked very good for them, and they kissed at the end of their song) I'm personally guessing that if they went with their other song Oceanside they would've won last night. Oh well I really didn't like both their songs anyway, I wanted Chérine to win but I'm still glad Gustaph won!

When the snippets came out i loved the " because of you " part of the song very much, i was not so keen on the soul-like chorus. However Saturday i was very impressed with his show, When he started i felt like, this is ok, then it progressed and we saw the audience equaly enjoying the vibe and then i thought wait a minute this has me bopping and singing along, wow this is it. So finaly he got my vote and my partner voted for Gala, it was our mutual decision, So we are happy for Gustaph and for discovering this fabulous artist `Gala, what a night. I did feel bad for the Starlings, i do understand that an artist stands by its choice, but honestly i think that with oceanside they could have brought the trofee home. Unfortunately Chérine (who was my favorite aswell) didn't deliver the same steady performance as she did earlier in the week. Her voice wasn't as steady as in de preselections. The act seemed a bit odd for some people (reminded me of a Monsters Inc scene), so think that overall package made her lose some votes...and then there was also the trouble with the website going down , so a lot of people couldn't vote...

Eurofans should stop watching NFs and even Eurovision with these fixed ideas of their rankings are what the final results should be. The reality is you segregate songs on FIRST listens as BAD and BEST songs. Because of you may not be the best choice (I agree) but just because it's at the last of your rankings and you decided that it's not your taste from the get go doesn't mean it's the worst entry ever all the time. This song definitely has potential especially with the right revamp and good staging. Yall stop shutting down doors on these entries. It's a decent song and it's not that bad.

I also have the feeling, it's not gonna win, and yes it's not the most original, but it's a feel good song to get people on the floor. So far it's my favorite of the three selected songs, we have got.

People's taste has become so generic lately, for wanting Ca M'ennui Pas or Carnival to win... Gustaph was the stand out act, and I'm happy that the duo act almost won the televote despite being hated by the eurofans (and probably missing the victory by only 1 point), which need to learn to stfu and stop whining at every occasion.

This was not my favourite in the national selection as I was rooting for Gala/Cherine (very original opinion, I know!), but Cherine's staging was pretty childish and I was quite confused about what was happening.

The weird thing about the song selection was that each artist had to send in 2 songs. But that didn't make a lot of sense because they were finally able to choose their own favourite song of the 2. So, it's a pity that "The Starlings" most qualitative song "Oceanside", that would have been a very strong entry, fell through this way. Gustaph will probably bring a lot of ambience in Liverpool. Will it get through to the finals ? I would be very surprised, but it fits in the overall Eurovision circus. btw : I'm a big (piano) house fan/addict myself. And I hope that Rita Ora will be Eurovision's big guest star with her new song "You Only Love Me". Thank you Noosh for sharing your opinion with the world.

I did watch the national final and I’m appalled that this has won it. It’s repetitive from beginning to end and it just isn’t original at all. I wanted Cherine to win or maybe Gala Dragot. But this was the worst of the 7.

With a revamp...this song could qualify for Grand Final. Win ESC...not likely. Still, Belgium has done worse and still qualified for the GF. All depends on the run order, revamp, staging, costume (his needs help), and performance. Gustaph is 42, so don't expect him to be doing any high dance numbers or running/jumping around the stage like STEFAN would.

Ok so there’s a lot to unpack here. Basically, Chérine’s staging was a little childish, there were allegations of conservative Flemish people not wanting a French song, allegations of people trying to make Belgium NQ bc they don’t want to win bc they have little money, wiwibloggs poll had Chérine winning on 49.49% and Gustaph last with 2%, he came 2nd in jury and 3rd in relegate so neither acc wanted him to win and Twitter is now absolutely wild with abuse directed towards him and it seems Belgium will likely be returning to internal selection next year.
