@@tiredfrog308 Most areas of the states don't have enough of those guys for interactions to be frequent or a real issue. And even if interactions do occur, most times it will be black bears or mountain lions which rarely attack people and are relatively easy to deter, fight off or avoid interacting with altogether. I have a healthy fear/respect of wildlife encounters for when I'm hiking here but honestly just being aware that they might be around and staying calm and aware of what to do if you come across them helps a lot with that. Insects and arachnids unfortunately tend to inhabit the same areas humans do and thrive there so you get more interactions with em. Personally my fear is triggered most by the fast and twitchy movements. A lot of them have the first defense instinct to bite which doesn't help settle my fear much lol.

Australian here, checking the loo for a spider or snake it really depends where you live, getting a frog in the toilet is a common one but my wife who’s from 2 hours out of Darwin had to check for snakes and spiders in the toilet, bathroom in general. But definitely does happen. She got pushed down the stairs as a kid to avoid getting bite by a snake once.

What species of palm viper? It looks much more like a colubrid than a viper imo. I’ve also not seen a palm viper with that coloration before.
@leomoths
@leomoths 7 ай бұрын
Looking into it further I am very confident it’s a colubrid. Hard to tell which specifically without clearer images but the head shape gives it away. You may have mistaken it for a Malabarian Pit Viper, since some individuals have similar patterning, but they have a distinctly triangular head. May be a good idea to correct the comment since spreading misinfo should be avoided when possible 😅
@vaporkay7831
@vaporkay7831 7 ай бұрын
@@leomoths looking at the headshape, I don't think so. Colubrids head's are a lot thinner than the snake in the video, especially near the neck or where the head connects to the skull. Of course, Im not a snake expert so I'll be doing more research on it. Edit: according to the original post, it is a King Ratsnake which does belong to Colubridae. And the comments on said post say the video is fake as the ratsnake is a common pet trade snake where this was filmed and usually aren't found there.
@leomoths
@leomoths 7 ай бұрын
@@vaporkay7831 King rat-snake definitely makes sense. Some colubrids do have wider skulls, but vipers are definitely much more triangular and wide. Also helpful to look at the eyes and head scales when looking for an ID, as those also help!

So Mormon Crickets are actually just flightless locust essentially. They lay eggs that incubate for decades till they're just right and then they all hatch at once. As in the majority of the species rebirths at one time, hence the abundance of them. I believe Lindsay Nicole did a video on them which is where I learned that.

8:00, what's worse is that the pressure hull was made out of carbon fibre and was cylindrical, all other submersibles capable of reaching those depths world-wide have a spherical pressure hull traditionally made out of titanium, the Russian built Mir Type for example has it made from maraging steel which has a better strength to weight ratio, the sphere pressure hull is 5cm thick with the view port windows being 18cm thick, rated for 19,685 foot depth - Titanic is around 12,500, but it has dived to the Bismarck which lays at 15,419 foot, they have also exceeded their rated depth with Mir 1 reaching 20,242 during testing, Mir 1 has also previously got stuck at the wreck but successfully freed and surfaced, currently out of all the submersibles in the world that were designed for that depth, Titan is the only one to have been destroyed while on a dive. It's worth noting also that not only did the dive cost 250,000 USD per person but the waiver the passengers had to sign stated that out of 90 dives Titan only reached Titanic 13 times - a success rate of 14% - and that 2 on board was a father and son celebrating fathers day together, iirc it's been said the son was terrified and went for his father, Paul-Henri Nargeolet known as Mr. Titanic, considered one of the world leading experts on the ship and a skilled and experienced submariner having served in the French Navy was also aboard, possibly as a guide to point things of interest out as well as a passenger. The implosion would have happened according to a search at 1 millisecond, the brain responds at 25 milliseconds, so they wouldn't have felt it or even known it was happening, painless so to speak. P-H puts it best: "If you are 11 metres or 11 kilometres down, if something bad happens, the result is the same. When you're in very deep water, you're dead before you realize that something is happening, so it's just not a problem."

@@beanbag6442 Seriously 😓 Tarantulas are extremely prone to stress, more than most other spiders. Even simply handling one too frequently can stress them enough to kill them. It’s less of an issue for arboreal species (who have adapted to a more stressful and changing environment), but for partially fossorial (burrow-dwelling) species like the one in the vid it’s really bad :( You can actually see venom on the side of the cup where the tarantula tried to bite in defense.
