To your questions Jeff- my plan with us in the 2 man break was to wear you down working for the break to stay away while thinking we'd most likely be caught by Matt towing the field up... thus tiring Matt and you out in the process... and hoping EJ would be sitting in the whole time fresh and ready to uncork the winning sprint. What really killed our break earlier than I had hoped was the box truck turning right while the parked dump truck blocked turn 1 causing us slow to 13mph.

I think EJ is has a unique problem because his power is so high he doesn't feel the consequences of not being efficient. When you can only push like 230 normalized you learn how to suck wheels quickly but when you don't have to it's a different ball game.

Weekday rogue crits are the heart of American bike racing. We had one in Austin (the Tuesday Nighter) east of town, and it was the craziest, funnest racing I ever did. I will always remember the ride out to the course with my friends, the intensity of the race, and the ride back into town telling war stories. And, yeah, we had our share of finishes disrupted by traffic -- part of the game. This was a win for EJ simply because it was a win for EJ. No "woulda, coulda, shoulda's" in weekday crit racing! :)

Nice race, EJ wins by making smart use of his environment to cut Jeff off 👌👌 *sidenote: if anything, you would draw the finish line earlier in case of a disrupted sprint ( imo ) which would mean EJ still wins ;) Looking forward to many rematches tho

Great video. Love seeing EJ's progression, now learning how to race on a team. Feel like this race/video will be a good turning point moment and the team race strategy will sink in. Use your insane watts when it matters, the finale🔥🔥! And that move around the 13km mark was great - "wind brake" Jeff make him close the gap while sitting on his wheel. I know Jeff’s skills are top notch but that rider at the end could’ve been a bad scenario. Don’t doubt that the sprint would’ve probably gone to Jeff just cause ej was probably tired, but if the truck wasn’t there that guy at the end swerving would’ve been a problem. But nice coverage ej! Once ej figures out how to conserve energy he’ll be a marked menace. 🤙🏽

I like how Jeff critiques EJ the whole time, yet the humble EJ wins the race, whilst simultaneously building more strength and endurance by twisting the crank arms into oblivion the entire time. How does one progress riding easy all the time? In drag racing, torque, endurance, and consistency wins races. The same is evident here. Good job EJ, I want to see you decimate Jeff in that rematch by throwing strategy out the window and going full magilla gorilla on the crankset.

I'm going to make a bolt prediction. EJ's power meter is not reading correctly. You should be blowing the field away at an NP of 419. I'd like to see a heads up, no drafting sprint with Jeff and EJ and compare the power numbers. My guess is that Jeff will have worse numbers while winning the sprint.
@mcfeel5855
@mcfeel5855 Жыл бұрын
I would be interested in this too, but there's a big variable it wouldn't cover -- CdA from position while sprinting. I think EJ's surges heavily skew up NP without making him much faster.

Love the videos! ❤ Quick question - I notice EJ is running oval chainrings. Has this been taken into account with the power figures that are shown given that non-round rings can cause power meters to over-read? It might be worth noting esp when doing vids with both your perspectives together as it’ll help us to better understand the comparison.

Great race recap as always. I feel for EJ having to watch his erroneous take on the strategy critiqued and played out over and over and... It's sort of like that saying: "Hindsight is 20/20." I definitely would say shutting it down was the right move at the end. (Never trust a cager!) I can't blame others for not however with all that adrenaline pumping. Definitely not a "win" I'd be proud of so it's great you guys have such a relaxed field there.

@7:25 "I think you could win enormous races" ............(if it weren't for the fact that every aspect of your racing needs major work). The fact is he just moved up way too fast. Dude barely knows how to ride in a group and he's racing against guys who've been doing it for years. He should have hung back in Cat5 or 4 for a lot longer, learned how to actually race, and then moved up. I stopped watching his channel because every video is the same...."hindsight is 20/20" right before he lets a major gap open up, finds himself on the front with 1,000 meters to go, or opens his sprint way too early. I'm sorry but I can't waste any more time watching someone who is apparently unable to learn anything from race to race. And no, you didn't beat Jeff. Not at the end of the race, not in any part of the race.
@NorCalCycling
@NorCalCycling Жыл бұрын
shep this is bad advice because if he hangs back he'll continue not learning and just relying on his fitness. He needs to cat up and start losing races because his positioning, cornering, and general race craft decision making is still bad (which is reasonable, he's still new, so chill). He's not dangerously bad he's just really inefficient. in higher categories like p12 he won't be able to just rely on his fitness, it'll force him to learn or lose.
