Love the race footage. Watching the TB duo, I’m kinda like wtf(looks like my team, as we let our best rider close all the gaps instead of pulling it back for him 🤦🏻‍♂️)!? If I’m in the race, apologies Chris, I would be asking: y’all know your mates, right? Now, one of you get your arse moving to close the gap! Actually, if I was in the race, I’d be faking the flat to get the hell out of it. Long gone are those days when I could close a gap at 35-36mph. Anyway, Jeff…your turn! Enjoy the collaboration, and maybe for the next vid, GC Performance loans each of you that speed sniffing SL8 to drag race out in Australia!😂

Im new to bike racing. What are the rules for that punctured tire? Isnt he 2 laps back then? or did he have to catch back up?
@oftenwrongphong
@oftenwrongphong 5 ай бұрын
When I was racing, you get a free lap unless it's a short course, then you get more (so you better get a wheel changed fast)...unless it's near the end, then you're just screwed. Since Alviso isn't a sanctioned event--lots of talent and speed--but not an official race, I don't think guys care. I even remember Jeff commenting in one video how a rider "Jumped back in." Even at sanctioned events, things do happen. At a race with long laps, I did have a worthless teammate who sat out for 5 laps, jumped in on the last lap for 4th and collected $10. I was impressed by his sudden ability until he told me. How he was not detected is beyond me.

After watching these videos for a long time on a small screen, I'm watching on a giant TV and I'm amazed by the course you ride on. Mainly the location and time of day. It’s in the back of an industrial park area so the traffic is very low and nonexistent. Time of day also helps with it being right in the middle of the workday so there isn’t a surge of traffic during the time of the race.

I love your channel but you're being a bit disingenuous here Jeff, saying you just took the two laps out you get for a mechanical at crits. Alviso laps are 2.6 km long, crit laps are usually around 1 km. When having a mechanical, you get 1 lap to fix it, very rarely you get 2. But you took the equivalent of 5 laps out. And if you want to play the rules game: you don't get free laps anymore when it's in the last 5 laps, which yours was. As this is just a practice crit, I don't see anything wrong with joining the break again after having done 5 km less, but the right thing to do would have been to sit on the break, don't get involved anymore and let the others battle it out for the win. What you did here was very poor sportsmanship.

Your breakaway riders never seem to work together properly, do these guys know how to race (particularly criterium/circuit races)? The idea of a breakaway is just that "staying away", hammering up to the front then slacking off on someone's wheel not only wastes your energy but that of the whole breakaway group. I don't know what category of racing this this is but in Cat 1,2 or 2 alone this doesn't happen. From what I've seen many of these guys don't even know how to draft/take a wheel properly thus, again wasting tons of energy, too much space between front to back wheel, dones of draft wasted.
