Welcome to the "Through the Forest to the Beach" 2018 Summer Edition with a couple of new stars of the show: Albert Attaboy and the Tamiya Monster Beetle 2015. I have really been looking froward editing and sharing this one ... ever since the summer of 2018 where the footage was recorded and our family had a blast running the Tamiya Monster Beetle.
I included a few short "super slow motion" jumps from the beach in the middle of this running video, previously used in a short Galaxy S9 demo-video this summer, but always intended for this video. You can watch the original quick little edit here: • Tamiya Monster Beetle ...
This summer I also filmed a short GPS Speed Test: • Tamiya Tuesdays in 4K:...
I also filmed a lot of short one-takes, including this one which made it into my series of Tamiya Tuesdays: • Tamiya Tuesdays in 4K:...
... and I made a short edit of the Monster Beetle family fun we had on a day where a friend showed up with his DJI Phantom 4: • The Tamiya Monster Bee...
Check out my channel for many, many more previous videos with the Monster Beetle, including the unboxing, a build series, Tamiya Tuesdays, the maiden run, upgrading, trouble shooting and more running videos.
The Monster Beetle 2015 here is running stock except for extra ball bearings and the MIP Super Ball Diff. Check out previous videos for more information and specifications.
You can find the previous annual editions of "Through the Forest to the Beach" here:

Great video! Love the Monster Beetle. What are the differences between this and the newer Blackfoot? Are they the same underneath? Anyways, great filming as always!
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot, Daryl! Yeah, love it too. The newer Blackfoot? The re-release? Both the original and re-release Monster Beetle and Blackfoot are based on the same ORV chassis. Basically the difference (other than color differences and body) is oil filled shocks (MB) vs friction shocks/springs (BF) and different tires.

Quick question, I know they switched from the hex-half shafts to proper dog bones. How are they holding up?
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Hi James. No, they switched to the universal axles. They hold up great, but they bind with full suspension travel. I tried the Frog dogbones in another video. They bind less. But both the dogbones and uni-axles are definitely better than the old one.

Mikael, do you find the bearings get sand in them ? I use the 1150 rubber sealed bearings and they seem to block out water and sand well.
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Hi James. Yeah, when I can I usually always use the rubber sealed ball bearings for the wheel axles etc. For the gear boxes I usually use the cheaper metal sealed although sometimes sand even find the way to the gears. But I often lubricate the “assembly cracks” of the gear box so it creates a kind of seal. For the wheel axles I often use the cheaper generic rubber sealed 1150 from eBay and the likes (sold in packs of 50-100). It keeps the individual bearing price down and I am able to just replace them if salty sand gets in.

Oh yeah love it Mikael! Good to see the Monster Beetle having a lovely day out on the beach. Looks great. Very nice video. I reckon that those tyres look very good in the sand. The Lunchbox tyres work pretty well at the beach but I think that the little spikes on the MB tyres give it a little more grip on the firm sand. Anyway, happy new year mate and here's to much more RC related fun in 2019 :-)
@NordicRC
@NordicRC 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Pete! Yeah, the 2WD and the differential doesn't do much good in the deep loose sand (the MB mostly gets stuck there very quickly) but on the more firmer sand, it really runs great with the spiked tires biting in. Mostly those spikes doesn't do any good (like on hard packed dirt) but when they are able to dig in, like in the sand or gravel etc, they really give a lot of grip and push. A very happy new year to you too, my friend! 2019 gonna be a good RC year :-) Hope you got your new hobby room ready to go for the new year.
