NordicTrack’s T 8.5 S is one of our Best Buy Treadmills of 2019. This folding treadmill is a great buy and fits in most homes for convenience.
Some of our favorite features:
FlexSelect™ Cushioning
The NordicTrack T 8.5 S is designed to create a solid foot strike and healthy toe-off while also providing a bit of cushioning in the deck for both comfort and joint support.
20” x 60” Commercial Tread Belt
This is the same size tread belt as NordicTrack’s Commercial series treadmills. It offers you abundant forward/aft length as well as more lateral space while running.
3.5 CHP DurX™ Commercial Plus Motor
A DurX 3.5HP motor is powerful enough to support walking, jogging and light running. This may not be ideal for heavy training or daily use by multiple users, but if you are a single user who wants to walk and jog regularly, the 8.5 S is an excellent option.
SpaceSaver® Design with EasyLift™ Assist
The 8.5 S treadmill has the same size running belt as all the Commercial series treadmills! The 22” width and 60” length is a spacious running platform that will fold up to save space when you are finished.
10” Smart HD Touchscreen
NordicTrack has added full-color touchscreens to most of their T-series and all their Commercial series treadmills. The addition of a touchscreen makes the treadmill a more fun and effective way to train indoors.
Includes 30 Day NordicTrack iFit® membership
iFit includes over 16,000 different workout classes and programs that you can watch on or off the treadmill. iFit includes walking, jogging, hiking, running and combo classes that all look great on the 10” touchscreen.
50 On-Board Workout Programs
For those who don’t want to use or pay for iFit, the 8.5 S comes with 50 preloaded programs already on the treadmill that do not require a subscription.
0-12% Incline
12% incline is impressive for a folding treadmill! Walking or running on an incline burns more calories than running at the same speed on a flat road -- so you get more out of your workout in the same amount of time. Incline training also allows users to stay low impact (walk) but still increase heart rate for intense cardio training.
0-12 MPH Speed
12mph is about the fastest speed you get on an indoor treadmill. The NordicTrack T 8.5 S provides you with all the speed you will need for HIIT, sprints, interval training, heart rate training, etc.
10-Year Frame Warranty
This is an impressive warranty! NordicTrack backs up their equipment with solid warranties that reflect the quality of construction and design.

So happy you finally posted this one. Here in the USA with COVID-19 as of July 2020, NordicTrack is not offering their white glove delivery in home installation program, which means folks will need to install it on their own or find a local professional to help them put their treadmills together - and it is not an easy task. They recommend 2 people do this together. The issue of treadmill weight is important - not just that of the user but also of the machine. This T 8.5 S treadmill weighs 216 lbs - and for folks like me who want to put it in an upstairs bedroom, you should be aware of this. The more popular NordicTrack commercial 1750 treadmill (currently $100 more in the USA) has a bit stronger motor, a wider belt, bigger speakers, and larger rollers. But it also weighs 100 lbs more. If both treadmills are recommended and weight is an issue for getting it into your home, this one might be the better option. Curious if owners of T series NordicTrack treadmills have been happy with their purchases.

Hey Gary! Glad you like the review. If you are trying to decide between the 2450 and the T9.5 we strongly recommend the 2450. It has a larger motor (4.0hp), inclines to 15%, declines to -3% and has more cushioning in the deck. The 9.5 is a good treadmill, but you get a lot more cushion and functionality on the 2450.

The Smart Pro 5000 is a good machine -- it has a bit more cushioning in the deck and a larger motor. The PF 5000 also declines to -3% and inclines to 15%. The NT 8.5s doesn't decline and only inclines to 12%. Between the NT 8.5s and the PF 5000, we'd opt for the 5000.

Does anyone know if it’s safe to leave the screen “on” when not in use? In “stand by” or is it recommend to turn off the machine completely until your next use? Thank you! (I just got this treadmill a couple of days ago and I’m loving it)
@TreadmillReviewGuru

Nordictrack recommends turning off the screen after use. We aren't sure why the screen doesn't automatically power down after 30 minutes of stand by time -- that would be a lot easier. But as it is, you have to turn it off via the switch on the front of the deck.

Thank you foe this review and other reviews I have read in the past 2 weeks! I am down to 3 choices: T8.5s & Sole F80. Focus is more on walking and light jogging at best due my knees and we are in ours 50s. My adult children will use this to run but more for cardio than a runner. Over time, if I no longer subscribe to iFit, is still worth considering the Nordictrack? Also, could I subscribe to iFIT and use an app on my tablet if the F80 is the choice? My only worry is one the subscription is gone, how valuable is the display and the manual option of the T8.5S Thank you!
@TreadmillReviewGuru
@TreadmillReviewGuru 3 жыл бұрын
Both the Sole F80 and T8.5s are good treadmills. You'll get slightly more cushioning in the Nordictrack deck, but Sole machines are built to last and carry an impressive lifetime warranty on the frame and motor. Yes -- iFit can be downloaded on any iPad or tablet and used on the F80 if desired. You won't get the automated speed/incline feature, you'll have to adjust those yourself on the treadmill -- but otherwise all the content is the same. (You don't get the Leaderboard either -- but I don't imagine you're super interested in that.) Once the free year iFit subscription has ended, you still get 50 onboard programs, so the screen isn't completely useless. iFit also often offers a "workout of the day" which is a free video even if you don't subscribe. The main difference is the Nordictrack T8.5s requires internet -- even if you don't have the subscription. You have to have an internet connection to use the console. The Sole F80 does not require internet. Either one is a great machine and should work well for your intended usage. Good luck!

The 8.5s and Pro 2000 are pretty similar -- they're both made by Icon fitness with the iFit app and similar functionality. The main difference is the 8.5s has a 10" touchscreen and the Pro 2000 only has a 7" touchscreen. Those 3 inches make a difference -- especially when you have to use the touchscreen to navigate the programs. Larger touchscreens have larger buttons which are easier to see and use. We'd opt for the 8.5s given the option.

We recommend having two people on hand to assemble it -- and make sure to assemble it where you plan to use it. It's more challenging to move the assembled machine than a heavy box. Other than that, the deck comes pre-assembled. You just need to attach the uprights and console. Be careful to not pinch any wires when attaching the uprights. It isn't heavy or hard - but having two people allows one to hold the upright/console while the other tightens any screws. Sometimes the hole isn't threaded perfectly, so it takes a bit of arm strength to fully tighten the screws. An electric drill is not recommended -- it's better to use a screwdriver. Other than that, assembly instructions in the owner's manual are usually pretty good. Good luck with your machine!

Hello - I noticed (or couldn't find) a review for the T 9.5 S model. What are your opinion on this model, and which you think is better before this model and the T 9.5 S model. thank you
@TreadmillReviewGuru
@TreadmillReviewGuru 3 жыл бұрын
You are correct. We don't have the 2020 model of the 9.5S in house, so we haven't been able to do a video review on that one. However, we find the 9.5S to be very spec-similar to the 1750. If you have the budget for the 9.5S, we recommend looking at the 1750 -- it has more cushioning in the deck and a larger motor. The screen on the 1750 is 10" compared to the 14" screen on the 9.5S, so that is what you're paying for on the 9.5S. If you plan to do mostly walking, the 8.5S is a good option. But if you want to run longer distances, we'd recommend upgrading to the 1750 over the 9.5S.
@marilynaponte4810

@@TreadmillReviewGuru thank you for your quick reply. The only problem with the commercial 1750 is the location I will be placing the treadmill which will be in the basement that only has a clearance of 79" high. The T series is lower giving me more space for incline. Again, thanks for your response.

I know you haven’t reviewed the new Nordictrack Exp 10i, but would you recommend it over the 8.5s? Since the 8.5s is no longer available from Nordictrack? I was going to purchase the 8.5s through Amazon. The Exp 10i is more expensive, and i’m trying to figure out if it’s worth it. Overall, it would cost around an extra $500 for the Exp 10i, since I can’t get it through Amazon with free delivery. I live in an apartment complex in the 2nd floor. Do you have any recommendations for treadmills with low motor noise or ones that make the least amount of impact noise when running at 7mph - 8mph speed? My budget is $1,000 to $3,000 usd. I prefer one with a chp of 3.5 to 4.0, from my research it seems the higher the better in chp. I don’t have a prefer brand just looking for something reliable. Thank you.

Based on your needs and budget we'd recommend the Nordictrack x11i -- it doesn't fold up, but it is quieter when in use because the deck sits firmly on the floor. It has a 3.75HP motor and inclines to 40%. Another option is the LifeSpan 5500i. It is also very stable and quiet when in use. It has a 4.0HP motor and it does fold up, it only inclines to 13%, but it is lower priced. Both are good options and would be quiet on a second floor.

@TreadmillReviewGuru 3 жыл бұрын
James, here's a quick breakdown: Nordictrack is no longer manufacturing the T 8.5, you may be able to find it at various retailers, but it's no longer on the NT site. We wouldn't recommend this one since they are phasing out the model. The ProForm 2000 was redesigned this year. It has a larger screen but smaller motor and less cushioning. For your height and weight we probably wouldn't recommend this one either. I haven't tested the Noblepro E8i so I can't give you an informed opinion on that one. The Sole F80 is probably your best bet. If you want subscription content, take a look at the Nordictrack 1750. If you're fine with a simple console, the Sole F80 is a great buy. It will work well for your weight/size and is very durable. Sole always comes up on the top of our lists because of the quality build and simple console. It doesn't require wifi, so it will work in a basement or garage as well. Good luck!

For cushioning, we recommend the 1750. It has more cushioning than the 6.5si or 8.5si and a larger motor. The Sole F80 is a great treadmill, but it isn't as cushioned as the 1750. Sole makes strong, durable treadmills that will last forever, but they lack the cushioning found in other brands. With the 1750 you get all the iFit content plus the added cushioning you mention.

We have found conflicting information about both NordicTrack and iFit as well. From our experience, iFit works great most of the time. Our biggest complaint is frequent updates that seem to show up every time we turn on the treadmill. But besides that, our NordicTrack machines work well and we have had very few issues with iFit or NT customer service. However, there are lots of reports of users who have been frustrated. Part of this could be because NT builds and sells so many machines that they are bound to have a greater number of customer complaints simply because they have more customers. Also, due to COVID we are aware that at least initially, the customer service department at NT was limited to only a few people. Replacement parts are also hard to get right now due to manufacturing delays. We aim to provide accurate information while not discounting anyone's personal experience.
