Norfolk Broads 2021 - with Sherz & Linz

Well it's been a while, but we're back this year for another week on the water - that's John, Linz and Joe the greyhound aboard Bright Horizon! We've both really missed our annual Norfolk Broads fix, so it was such a relief to finally get back to the promised land - especially as we managed to pick the one week in April that wasn't cold and wet...

What a treat your videos are Sherz and Linz. Like many others, I look forward to seeing your latest adventures. You look so happy together. I've just sent a link to someone who's never been on the Broads before. If they don't fall for it with you two, they never will. Sherz, I think you need to get a second job. Twelve months until your next video? That's far too long.

The editing, the filming is top notch but what makes it is you both being you. It’s real and it’s funny, best broads videos being made . None of that pretentious stuff it’s a couple and their dog having a laugh and yet showing me things I never knew were there. My daughter has announced we are going ghost hunting this year when we pick up our hire boat.

If only we could afford to go more than once a year! Will hopefully have a camping weekend at Salhouse this summer, other than that it'll be a bit of pottering about on our canal boat in the meantime!

Hi there! Yeah we all picked a good week for it didn't we? Can you imagine being out there this week? Doesn't bear thinking about... Not rebooked yet, it's always difficult with work commitments to secure a date until nearer the time, but chances are we'll be back around the same time, just before the boatyard hikes up the hire prices for the season!

I remember you overtaking me and my wife. I did wave and say I'd seen your vids on here. We were on Brinks Quartet,the weather was lovely that week for April.👍We had the wind blowing onshore at Ranworth so we moved off the staithe and mudweighted on the sheltered side behind the trees and slept like a log.

Always carry a roll of kitchen foil to wrap/ insulate the BBQ from wind and intensify the heat 🏅🎖🏅

Good tip - we'll try that next time! I think where we went wrong at Yarmouth was that we'd started the BBQ quite late in the day and were rushing it to stay ahead of the daylight - the bucket seemed to get up to temperature long after we'd given up and stuck the food in the oven.

Ah a fellow pointy owner! Yes we make a point of introducing Joe to others whenever we can, he was a bit shouty and defensive around other dogs, but he's gradually getting more relaxed around them now. :)

My wife and I are taking the Western Horizon for our first trip in early October, I think it's the same type of boat. We were planning to make our way through to Norwich but now I've seen the fun you guys had I think we'll take the more leisurely route and travel the Bure. Great video thank-you.

Cheers Alec! We've hired Western Horizon before, and I can confirm it's exactly the same, except the sliding canopy is yellow instead of red! We keep meaning to explore more of the southern side but have never gotten further than Brundall so far - there's only so much you can see in a week and we have so many other favourite spots on the northern end, it stops feeling like a holiday if you're chasing around too much trying to fit it all in.

We booked onto Bright Horizon after your helpful boat review! We watched that video so many times as we were so excited and our holiday got postponed a year because of covid so it was a long wait! And can you believe it, we booked onto Bright Horizon 1 for the 24th April so we must’ve just missed you guys! The boat was perfect and your review was spot on - thank you! 😁 Alex

Richo's seem to have 3 or 4 of the Bright Horizon boats, plus there's also Western Horizon that we hired a couple of years ago - same boat with a different colour roof, that was the only difference I could spot anyway... Yep it's been a long wait for us all, we were due to be out there last April too.

Oh wow! I was there at the same time picking my boat up from Barnes Sat 17th. We had wonderful weather didn't we.... not a drop of rain. Bit cold at night and in the mornings but super; and I got a tan lol. I wish I could go more than once, too. Long way down though from Chester. Great video guys

Cheers Chris! It was actually quite a lazy week for us this year, we normally cover more mileage than that, we usually cross Breydon and do a bit of the south side as well. With the pubs only partially open we decided to stick with our usual haunts on the northern side this time.

Great video. We came and had a chat with you at Ludham bridge, we were so lucky with the weather that week weren't we? That was us arriving at the boatyard just before you, us moored just behind you at Potter heigham, and us on the pilot mooring at Wroxham as you came under the bridge. It's the biggest car I've ever had so far! Always swore I'd never had an estate, but it's great for a holiday run. Everything fits in the boot (just!) so no need to pack stuff around the passengers any more... No, only managed to get Linz in the sea once, and I'm not that daft! :D

great video , it looked like you had alot of fun, we hired a similar boat a couple of times , but when they were horizon craft , we've had spring & summer horizon boats , but i hated reversing in them things . but very spacious boats . ps , breakfast looked lovely , it was making me hungry lol .

Hi Lori - thanks, glad you enjoyed! We've had Bright Horizon a couple of times, as well as Western Horizon (same thing, different colour). I think reversing any forward drive cruiser is a bit of a headache, I always do it with the canopy slid back so I can see behind over the top, or crouch down and look past the galley and through the back door! And yes, our Linz does a cracking breakfast! :D

Loved the video. Can I ask what camera and editing software you are using?

Camera? Several of! The bulk of it was shot on a Canon M50, as well as a Panasonic HC-X920. There's also a DJI Mini 2 for the drone shots, and a gopro-ish action cam thingy that we stick to the windscreen for the travelling shots. Oh and a couple of clips came from my Galaxy S10 phone. Editing was done on Vegas Movie Studio Pro 15 (pretty much a "lite" version of full Vegas). All in 1080p for the time being, I might try shooting in 4K if I ever get a fast enough computer to handle the editing!

brill video both the only problem l find with the Broads is what companys change for Diesel me and my family used to come 2 times a year but the last 5 years it's been only 1 a year best wishes keep the videos coming

We missed it last year with the increase in hire prices, if it continues I think we'll only be doing it every other year from now on. Diesel's up of course, but it doesn't help with the Broads Authority putting tolls up, and those costs get passed on via the boatyards to the hirers.

We always book directly with the boatyard rather than via Hoseasons etc. Costwise, anything from a few hundred to a few thousand, depends entirely on which boat and what time of year. That's why we go in April, any later and the prices go silly daft.

That boat is only 7ft high with the lid down, so I can't see it being an issue getting to Yarmouth, off the top of my head I think you've only got Ludham to contend with on that route, and it's got pretty good clearance.

Nice vid, thankyou. We're on holiday in Great Yarmouth with a 15 and a 12 year old and are only here for 3 days. Its a toss up between the Broads and a funpark as we only have one day to visit. Would one day be enough and would the kids appreciate it? Ps its cloudy here at the moment. Thanks

If you've only got a day to visit the Broads, there's not a lot of it to see around Yarmouth. It's quite a long run from there to the more northern reaches that would suit a daytrip better. You'd be better getting a day boat from Wroxham, that would put places like salhouse, Horning, ranworth etc within your reach.

Hi Sherz and Linz, this is going to sound a bit random, however my boyfriend and I have loved watching your videos. We took our first trip in April and are back again this weekend with our family for his birthday. We spent an entire (gin fuelled) evening watching all of your hilarious and brilliant videos with our Aunt and Uncle. I wondered if you would possibly be able to film something for my best friend and boyfriend for his birthday? His name is Iain McCracken and he's 33 this Saturday. He would LOVE it and so would we.. it really would make his whole year. We will be starting off at Stalham this Friday and spending Saturday evening in Wroxham. Let him know he is loved by all of us, Becky, Rose, Phoebe, (our daughters) Auntie Fi and Uncle Sage. He loves your videos and particularly enjoys your new boats tech (he's Deputy IT director) haha. Alas no, hire prices have gone daft. Not so long ago I was paying around £500 for a cheap boat at the cheap end of the year for a week's break - this year it's looking more like £1000. Looks like we'll be giving it a miss this year and do some canal boating instead!

@@djsherz yes I noticed this year they have creeped up in price, think it still has alot to do with people not wanting to travel abroad. That's such a shame for you guys, Linz mentioned last year you might do a camping trip to Norfolk?

@@cbell7643 Indeed, we've done it before. There's a handy campsite on the edge of Salhouse Broad - considerably cheaper than hiring a cruiser.

Hi Sherz n Linz lovey to see you both the whole family watch your videos .we all love the broads and we been going off n on for 50 years. @@djsherz sometimes they have last minute deals to get craft out on the river but it usually a last minute thing mate, all the best hope your ok
