Extreme winter weather is a challenge for railroad operations. Norfolk Southern has a rigorous plan in place to respond to cold weather. This year we have taken additional steps to help keep customers’ shipments moving as efficiently and reliably as possible, including:
_ Hiring additional train crews.
_ Increasing the size of our locomotive fleet.
_ Adding infrastructure to increase capacity at several major yards.
_ Positioning resources and people at key locations across our
network.

Enjoyed the Vid' !! Reminded me, cold and darkness make it seemingly the worst of the seasons to work in. Always looked forward for the sun to come up, and being back at the hotel (o home) soon after dusk !

I graduate high school class of 2016 for next year and I live in the Lehigh Valley I always see the railroad maintenance crew guys at CP88 in Bethlehem I talked to a couple guys on the crew and they said once I turn 18 I should sign up and join and I always wanted to be a track maintenance worker for NS I heard a lot of good stuff about it. But I don't wanna work out of Pennsylvania or out of the Lehigh Valley much because Bethlehem from my house is at least 20 minutes mind the traffic.

Did you get the job Matt. In my hiring session their was about 50 people. Been working for them about 2 years now. The odds are about 1 in 450 for getting hired.

Sorry, I didn't get the job. I did well on the test, and we narrowed down the 42 attendees to something like 11 of us finalists who got interviewed. I thought I did pretty well on the interview too, but got an email next day or so, saying I wasn't selected.

+Matt Redman sorry to hear that Matt. I hope you find the job you want. Norfolk southern is currently hiring in large quantities and you might just get hired. I have a union mans # if you want it. He might could help you get on. Just keep in mind your away from home most of the time the work can suck but the pay is always great and it's also a rewarding job and you make great friendships

I appreciate the offer, but I'm actually not a union member yet, so he wouldn't help. But yes, NS is hiring like crazy at the moment. And the other 3 big RRs have basically done a hiring freeze. Really weird. But hey, I'm still applying!

Hey NS, don`t you think it is about time you reopen the Cincinnati District? You got nothing but a traffic jam up North in Ohio, the Eat Coast is a mess and for some reason you think that it makes sense to send freight North in Ohio just so it can go back South. How about you fix the Vera Bridge, do some track work [you really don`t need to do much because they aren`t in that bad a shape] put back in the receiving tracks you took out of the Clare Yard and start using this route again? Getting the slower freight off the Heartland Corridor and using the Cincy District for an additional East / West route would seem to make perfect sense. The time is now, freight traffic is only going to increase in the future, so why let a viable line just sit dormant when it could, and should be getting used.

I\'m not sure but ,if anyone else needs to find out about how do i how to get a railroad job try Sovallo Rapid Rail Fixer (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some incredible things about it and my colleague got excellent success with it.

+InterGamer CP is interested in buying NS. NS`s president on the other hand has made very clear that they aren`t interested. It was reported on their website yesterday

That's never going to happen. BNSF is way bigger than NS. I don't think NS would have enough money to even make an offer on BNSF because of their size.

+Peterbilt3794life Incorrect, BNSF has 32,500 miles of track whereas NS only has 20, 000. It`s not even close my friend
