Join City Historian Peggy McPhillips, host Bob Batcher and the staff of the Ocean View Museum in a walk through the past of the city by the sea in Norfolk, VA. Located inside the Mary D. Pretlow library, the museum contains a complete history of Ocean View through pictures, artifacts and more. Home of the world's largest naval base, Norfolk also had an amusement park, trolley line and much more to cater to her large military population through many wars.

Dudley Cooper was my great uncle. I had no idea there was an Ocean View Museum. I'd love to see it if I ever get to Norfolk again. I have a sign from the park sitting right here in my living room. My dad "worked" there when he was little. His dad, Albert Miller, helped manage the park, I think.

I grew up in Norview but spent many a day at the OV Park. I can still remember coming down Granby Street going to OV and seeing the Clown Heads at the entrance of the Park. The fire works were awesome. To bad our city leaders did could not see into the future; at the time the roller coaster was torn down I think it was the 2nd oldest on the east coast and probably the USA. What an attraction it might have been today with proper funding. Thanks to the museum for keeping out memories alive!

love it riding the little boat when I was six was one of the greatest things that ever happened to me. Im kinda have enough height nightmares so maybe its good that I wasn't tall enough for the roller coaster

I grew up in Norfolk and I was about 12 when they closed the park. I was just getting to the age when I would like to go to the park by myself without my parents. I missed out.
