Can we compare what Hamas did on Oct. 7 to Nat Turner's slave revolt and the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising?
Was this the "Gazan Slave Revolt"?
Link to entire conversation: • (Better Audio) Norman ...
Norman Finkelstein, historian and radical leftist icon, and Aaron Maté, of The Grayzone and Useful Idiots, in a provocative discussion about Israel's war on Gaza, the meaning of Hamas' atrocities, the question of genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, and U.S. complicity.

Since October 7 I am beginning to think that by constantly preaching and repeating the narrative of victimization, this bitter man only contributes to locking the Palestinian people into a spiral of frustration, violence and chaos. What did Hamas terror achieve for the people of Palestine? The toxic, abominable Hamas leadership is the greatest obstacle for peace, freedom and prosperity for the entire region. _[And the violent extremists are only empowering questionable hawkish, hardliner power structures that lock them in from the opposing side.]_ Just keep on telling the people that Israel is the problem and they will go on clinging to toxic leaders who will continue to drag them deeper into a violent confrontation that only leads to more and more suffering for everyone in the region.

@@aimmed7728 My comment has to do what a long occupation can do to people. They become so furious, angry and eager to die for freedom like HMAS. Greece was able to get free by his heroes but also had a lot of help from Russia, France and Britain which help we still pay for. Also, if they still got their culture and language, it is because of Greek diaspora who came and taught the language, build schools, etc. However, just because we liberated with almost a destroyed country, that does not mean we forget. Many other countries were liberated from colonies and because are “free” and remember the slaughters, the stand for freedom and Justice! I stand for Palestine my friend and for Sudan, Armenia, Yemen and so many people who suffer. Mikis lTheodorakis was asked by Yassar Arafat in 1980, το write a song for Palestine and wanted to use as a National anthem when Palestine will be libatated🙏! PS. They were 400 hundred years of slavery and they took the territory 100 years back( maybe more) on civilization when the whole Europe was experienced Renaissance period. oh norm. your testimony would be authoritative if you said "my mother told me ... happened in the prison camp and i relate that to the palestinian movement". otherwise as you said elsewhere your are not an expert on morality. you wanted to talk to chomsky for guidance when the October 7 massacre happened. your moral equivalence argument is terrible. say a slave owner was abusive to nat turner. that would not justify turner killing the whole family.

Funny how no one says Israel should use non violent means. For one side “defence” is always seen as killing civilians and always seen as acceptable. But when people who have been oppressed for decades and have tried the non violent approach, eventually fight back, instead of seeing them as freedom fighters (like the west always see themselves no matter what the excuse for an invasion), they’re always seems as terrorists…. The hypocrisy boggles the mind.

I respect Norman Finkelstein's knowledge and work as much as Aaron does but NF is almost always a horrible interview because he's incapable of direct answers and can't be constrained from long-winded analogies and digressions. I wish someone would put away the idolizing and just tell him so. That way he could get out more of that depth of knowledge and more info for us to spread. Instead he talks almost like a meandering politician at times. It shouldn't take 10 minutes to say: "Nat Turner committed and was condemned for grotesque acts of criminal violence against innocents yet he ultimately inspired John Brown's insurrection for which Brown was also hated as a religious fanatic. Both were fanatics. Yet two years later Union Soldiers were literally singing praises of John Brown as they marched towards the confederates. So we can never be sure what will results from even horrible acts so it's impossible to predict what will come of the actions of Hamas on October 7th." Personally I'd just like a complete list of all these events emphasizing Israeli crimes across the years to make arguments for never supporting Israel. Any side by side comparison to victims of Hamas or any other Arab or Palestinian insurgency group would be minuscule in comparison.
