@@BuzzardonGuitar Yeah, I just mean what it’s doing in there. The other chords are all based on degrees of the A major scale... then this cheeky G major. Sounds lovely, but doesn’t “belong”. Which is cool, lots of songs have borrowed chords... Just trying to develop my understanding a wee bit! Cheers buddy!

@@jamesdalziel4516 There are three theories for me. It’s not uncommon (especially in Jazz but also Pop), to ‘borrow chords’ from the parallel key. So the G could be viewed as being borrowed from A minor. This would be the bVII chord. For example also, in Oasis’ Half The World Away, Noel uses F - Fmin. The key is C. Fmin is chord IV of Cmin. Green Day’s When September Ends also used a IV - IV minor C - Cminor progression. The Beatles used it a lot too. The other factor is the voice leading created by going from G - A. The B resolves to C# the D to E, the G upto A. So it creates nice movement. The third theory is that it just sounds good ha. And I’m not convinced that they had a chat like this as they wrote the song 😄 You could certainly presume Noel stole the idea from the fab four though 🤷🏻‍♂️Hope this helps.

@@bezziano57 thanks Matt, that helps for sure. I’d thought about it being from the parallel minor, so it’s good to know that I wasn’t totally wrong! Just starting out on writing my own progressions, and these little techniques are good to know. Ultimately, I suppose if it sounds good, then it is good, and the theory was developed around that concept. Cheers mate!
